Title: What are the origins of your screen name?
Post by: Bilbin on Fri, 28 October 2011, 14:17:16: I was called Bilbin by a person with the same first name as I in 2006 on Call of Duty 2 before I had a screen name for myself and just chose to use it from that day on.

I seem to have a knack of creating nice cute girl fantasy names that my fiance' really likes and takes, since you know, i don't play girl characters.

"And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz."

The whole compound name means something like "hurry to the plunder", in reference to an impending attack by Assyria. I had a roommate who used to joke that he was going to have four sons one day, and name them Maher, Shalal, Hash, and Baz. The word sounds nice and zergy, and the meaning seemed appropriate for Starcraft. It's kind of become my default username, though I don't feel particularly attached to it.

Also I like its cross-compatibility with computer science: hash as in hash table, baz as in the standard sequence of dummy names "foo, bar, baz".

My other favorite SN is "Luckytrumpet" - neither names have ever been taken on any website for which I've registered. I like having unique (by that I mean one-of-a-kind or less used, not necessarily "creative") handles. If "Playtrumpet" was more common, I have backups.

It doesn't have any particular meaning behind it. I actually think it was one of the suggestions they give you. I really don't remember though.

And I liked the whole idea of a small predator that looks harmless but packs a sting. I started off using it as "teh_HyDr0iD" but then as I matured a little the "teh" eventually dropped off and I just used "HyDr0iD", but then I decided that I didn't like the alternating caps either so I've just begun to use "Hydroid". It's something that I initially just chose, but I've become quite attached to it now.

I really don't like when people shorten it to Hydro though, I have no idea why, but it just seems like it's butchering the name to me. ^^

Farbrausch, or Farb-rausch, is a German group of demomakers who made themselves particularly famous in the demoscene in December 2000 with a 64k intro called "fr-08: .the .product". "Farbrausch" literally translates to "rave of color", "color rush" or "color frenzy" in English. Making use of techniques like procedural textures, an efficient MIDI sequencer called Logic Audio (currently owned by Apple under the name Logic Pro) and a modified version of UPX executable compressor [1], ".the .product" is an 11-minute 3-D show featuring complex scenes of computer generated imagery.

Their work has won numerous awards. In 2004, a subdivision of farbrausch called ".theprodukkt" released a 96kB first-person shooter game named ".kkrieger", and an earlier version of the tool they currently use to produce some of their demos, named ".werkkzeug", or "Tool".

which is why i made mine with the min chars available, nothing worse than putting time into a handle (avatar now?) only to have ppl shorten it and call you water.

I wanted to use letters that other people weren't going to use, which I narrowed down to Q and Z. I figured at the time that I needed a U after the Q, and the rest just kind of came together for the project. Originally it was Quarzack, but I had to nix the K because vanity license plates were only 7 characters. I started using it online years later when I needed a semi-constant handle, and it popped back into my head. I don't remember where I started using it. I used Enyu for a while before that though, but switched to Quarzac when Enyu was taken at a bunch of sites- probably due to its origins in an online name generator.

If I had to come up with a story, I often have dark circles under my eyes giving the appearance of a mask and like to stay out of the way in the background, like Unix daemons. Plus I like to use Linux.

I also used SmallFry284 on occasion when A different handle is required, just because Runescape told me 284:tongue:

Wow. That's pretty impressive, I'd heard about demomakers before but never really looked more into them.

In the game there was an earth element spirit that you had to fight. His name was gnome and he was a giant mole, with a big bow on his head lol. I thought he was cute and kinda cool, so when i got my xbox 360, i needed to come up with a name and I didnt want numbers in my name. I tried king of gnomes but that didnt work, then Son of Gnome came into my head some how. I tried it, it wasnt taken and the rest is history.

Only problem is, I wouldn't be the first or the last nameless guy on the Internet, so I started tacking things after it to separate me from the rest. Unfortunately, one revision matched up with a rather...unsavory person, so I kept changing it a few more times. The psuedonym you see here is the latest one, and the latter part was turned into three random letters so that the emphasis would be shifted to the former word.
