Just curious.

Still engineering school for me.

I have a BA in History (emphasis on the rise of Communism post-WWII) with a minor in Classical Civilizations (emphasis on Rome).  I would like to take four semesters of Ancient Greek at some point.  This would complete Classical Civilizations (despite the emphasis) and Linguistics as second and third majors.

I have the most awkward job title in the company I work for - Manager of Customer Relationship Management (CRM).  Basically, I manage a team of people (myself) that develop customer segmentations, lead lists, etc. for targeted marketing campaigns through a CRM.  I also do a lot of analysis around customers' shopping behavior.  Despite what my job title is, I do not work in Sales, I work in Marketing.  Or something very similar to that; it's still not sales, it's more research than anything.  We're kinda like the Behavioral Analysis Unit of our company.

I'm the bald guy:

I have a BE in Mechanical Engineering, and I'm pursuing an MS in Industrial Engineering.

My current job title is "Specialist Engineer", and I help maintain parts libraries for various CAD packages at a large company. Think of it as very specialized IT. It has nothing whatsoever to do with my degree, but that's not so unusual. I only work part time there; grad school is my "real" job.

I think you're allowed to be directionless at age 18. Besides, Australian minimum wage is something like 15USD per hour! So you would already be in the upper 50% of American incomes :)

"Master of Computer and Systems Sciences". Title: "Programmer" right now.

Actually it is not a real Master's degree, but a Swedish "Magister" degree which is considered to be slightly below it. I would have needed to take courses for three months more or something to get a "Master's", but that is practically the only difference. EU-standard "Master" degrees were not introduced in Sweden until some time in the previous decade.
One thing that bugs me is that I can not title myself "Software Engineer" because I did not take a formal "engineering" degree, but was signed up at a non-"engineer" college. It does not matter that my faculty was joint-project between two universities and that 90% of my courses were taken together with "engineering" students ...

It usually entails companies that sell third party products where they reverse an item and make it better. For example, the xbox controller has been figured out so that companies such as Razer and Nyko can make their own cheaper/better controllers. I also think a security specialist would be cool, specializing in penetrating systems. (isn't that what iMav does?)

Last year of a my bachelor's in computer science. Very little interest in doing any coding or software development though. I come from a background in organic chemistry. Was not too into that and switched to this. I like the theoretical side and rather try to come up with new algorithms or memory addressing schemes or whatnot that are not so explicitly related to coding.

I actually hate computers in the same way that people call TVs idiot boxes. I do however love input devices. I find typing very relaxing and almost artful.

$15 minimum wage in Australia? Maybe if you're 18.

14 and 9 months you are allowed to work in Australia, cash in hand is illegal. Last year when I was 17 I was making $12 an hour as casual at Woolworths, dropped to $10.70 once I became part time.

Currently all I have is completion of high school. But next year I'm hopefully going to study a Diploma of Engineering at a college near my house which gets me right into the 2nd year of a Bachelors in Engineering Science (a 3 year course) which can get me into the 4th year of any of 8 degrees in various engineering fields. I know I want to go into engineering but I'm a little blurry on the specifics of what I want to major in. For the most part Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Systems engineering all interest me and I could also choose to go into robotics which is pretty awesome, but I'd imagine is really just a collective effort of the 4 fields above in practice.

Well, it starts with having hardware in situations it was never designed for to begin with.

True story:  Company had a cluster running against some HP storageworks SAN.  The SAN was not validated for clusters and when I got to the documentation there were specific warnings against even trying it.  The whole thing was already messed up and I was called in to fix it.  Due to a severe lack of documentation on the implementation as it stood I went in blind and ended up wiping the data completely.  Since it was already gone I moved forward with trying to get their 'original' config working so we could restore from backup.  Started by updating the firmware on all the various parts since that was necessary to get HP support and replacement disks for the failed units.  Next step was to show them that the configuration they wanted was completely impossible now with the new firmware (it programmatically disallowed the config that was possible before) and that it was documented as not working in the old firmware.  Then my favorite part was when they let me know there was no backup and I was in deep.  That lasted 5 seconds before I whipped out the contract they signed that stated they had full backups and I could not be held liable for anything that happened to their data.

Probably A+ first, as working on end devices seems better than working on intermediary devices to me. After all that's done, I suppose it's off to State, and then I don't know what. Probably should get a job at some point as well, if those certifications mean anything and aren't obsolete by the time I get around to it.

BA in Communication Studies  and (shockingly, I know!) currently unemployed.  Only ended up with that because I had no idea that there was an option to not go to college and had to just  get through something in the four years that were budgeted for.  Started with a broadcast journalism interest until I discovered that news was just another entertainment venue.  I somehow ended up with the credits for the BA but zero usable focus in the real world and nothing on my resume of much use now that I'm nearly 40.

That may be my own fault though for spending the first decade out of college being an exotic dancer...   Thinking I may be able to scratch out a living as a writer of some sort, and currently using whatever skills are available to me to do everything from landscaping and sprinkler installation to appliance repair to writing and directing gay porn.  Yeah, I could use a direction or two...

Okay, now I'm depressed.  WHY OH WHY didn't I stick with programming ?  (I think I might have if I hadn't been in the Apple camp in the 80's - I did have a very good knack for it -  at least through basic and Pascal....  Oh GOD I am really OLD >"Basic and Pascal".  o_O Yikes. Maybe I should go make some use of myself and sit with the OWS folks getting arrested....)

Exotic dancing is WAY more interesting than programming. How 'bout giving all the Geekhackers one last virtual dance? ;)

I have a friend that goes gay for pay in porn.  Seems like a pretty easy gig, to be honest.

Judging on the length and depth of this post, you could have omitted the first sentence, and we would still know. At the very least, you have a wide, practical skill set.

Ha ha ha...

Wide?  Yes.
Practical?  Debatable.
Lucrative?  Unfortunately, no.  Perhaps its the way I am applying it that is the problem...

BA in Media and Communication Science focusing on strategic communication. Also spent a year taking design, photography and a few other random courses. Managed to get a job after about 6 months as a copywriter at a web agency. For some clients we act more like an integrated marketing agency which means i end up doing pretty much everything from basic on-page SEO to press releases and TV ads.

I did that for a couple of years, I feel for you too.

BA in psych.  I do what I can to make sure people don't break the website of one of the worlds largest companies.  I help them collect data about visitors too.  That part is more related to the 'not breaking' part than metrics architecture, though.  I would like to do more with the data collection stuff in the future.  Its in high demand and really interesting.
