Title: Filco's internal connector?
Post by: alaricljs on Wed, 02 November 2011, 21:26:23
Any chance someone knows the make/model of the connector used inside an 87key Filco to connect the cable to the PCB?  I'm interested in both the connector and the receptacle.

Thanks

If it's the same as the Noppoo mini, I got one from Fry's. It's a molex .100 KK Housing & terminals 4 Cir. (2.54mm)

This is the best picture I could manage with a DROID camera

The one in a Filco is 2mm spacing, 5 pin.  And if that's the connector for the cable in your pic, it's HUGE compared to the Filco.

This one is 10mm wide, 3mm thick, 6mm deep.  As far as I can tell it's an attempt at a direct competitor to one of Amps connectors.

I just pulled that one out of an old mouse.

Yup, that seems to be exactly it.  And also, my plan worked.  I've been banging on the net for 2 days to find this thing.  45 minutes after I ask here, I find the damned thing.

It's a JST PH  5 position connector and SMT mount shrouded receptacle.
connector housing: PHR-5
connector pins: SPH-002T-P0.5S
SMT mount shrouded header: S5B-PH-SM4-TB

Now I need to figure out where to buy them in smaller quantities...

See if you can pull apart an old mouse and salvage it.
Edit, it is an MS mouse. I think I saw the same connector inside a MS keyboard too.

My primary interest is actually the PCB side... which no one seems to stock, even when they stock the cable side.

^Hence why I suggested pulling old mouse you don't need apart for it. Just desolder the receptacle from the PCB.

Fixed the part number... wonder what they changed between the revisions....

I'm not about to pull apart ~50 mice :)  small quantity compared to the 1000 JST wants to sell me.

I don't think anyone has 50 old mice laying around ;o

Well there are 2 complete sets of 50 that have the wrong PCB connector for super cheap ($7)... I've asked both sellers if they can substitute the right PCB end.

Can't you just use a normal 90 degree .1 spaced 5 pin header?

I'm interested in giving people the option of using original parts from their KB... for instance either the Filco cable or the CMStorm extension to the external USB connector.
