Saw these braided mini-usb to ps/2 cables on OTD and never seen anyone have these over here.
I want one ;-)

Just take some braided cable cover and pull it over your USB cord, then shrink wrap the ends. Done.

Those are pretty cool looking! I would mind getting or making one of those and modding my keyboard to have a detachable cord.

You can DIY one pretty easily. I remember someone on Head-fi (audiophile forum) made one for his DAC.
It's a bit tricky to solder to a mini usb connector, but it can be done. It ended up looking really good, if I recall.

Was just about to drop the Head-Fi reference. You do not want to know how much they would pay for a cryo-treated non-spec USB cable. Ridiculous. I have made a cable myself just for kicks and there's really nothing to it. Necessary? Hell no, I will just stick with the Monoprice premium USB cables.

honestly I think I would rather have a full size usb port if possible, but yeah I might have to look into wiring up a mini usb. You would figure that there is probably a wiki article on this huh?

Wiring a USB hub is as easy as plugging it into a USB port and bringing out out the physical connector ports any way which pleases you.
I've seen a lot of laptop and notebook mods where they basically cut the traces on a mobo-integrated USB port, rewire it into a USB hub, plug other USB things in to provide missing features (WiFi, BT, GPS, whatever), and send one of the USB ports from that hub back out to the USB port physically mounted on the mobo. Some surgery required, since all the stupid bulky plastic chassis have to removed and stuff's gotta somehow be mounted wherever you can find any internal space, some power calculations (or regulated 5V power tap from the battery) sometimes required since low-end laptops *coughAcercough* are sometimes really borderline on USB spec to begin with.
An example here (http://beta.ivc.no/wiki/index.php/Eee_PC_Internal_Upgrades). Basically no more difficult than just plugging all your stereo or TV components together, except disassembly (and reassembly) and a little soldering required. Some guys seriously nerd out on their little $300 Eee, pimping it up with $500 worth of internal addon mods. Personally, I prefer to just spend $750 on a marginally better lappy which already has such features properly integrated.

geez, everything that comes out of OTD (custom wise) is awesome.
are they using paracord? i want to try this out to continue working on my soldering.

I was going to say the same thing, forget the cable what about that keyboard.. =P

Seen this stuff when people single sleeve their PSU's.

I was also thinking of using mdpc sleeving, just need to figure out what size. And those ps2 adapters or loose USB heads.

While it COULD be paracord, I think it's a much better chance it's normal nylon sleeving. For one cable, I used a shoelace, which also worked out well. Also, look up "techflex". I don't like it as much, but if you get a contrasting colour to your cable, you can get really neat effects.
@Ripster: I don't buy canare connectors anymore after my F16 broke. I thought it was build like a tank, but the tip has bent, and now shorts out too much. They're also too heavy. I'm more a Neutrik fan, myself. (and maybe Furutek for a 1/4 if I need it, and want to splurge, though Neutrik has some excellent 1/4's)
I still like Canare's L-4E6S (Starquad) as interconnect cable. It's pretty easy to work with, pretty well-made, and cheap. I'm still going to try the Mogami next time, though.

Ugh: Soldering to connectors is much harder for me, but I still don't have a "helping hands" yet. I end up having to chase it around on the table until it sometimes works.
About cable sleeve sizing: keep in mind, you can scrunch it up to a larger diameter pretty easily depending on what type it is.

Cloth cables look so nice! I see mods happening in the near future ;)
