Title: Looking for a good mx brown bored.
Post by: FerretBuster on Tue, 15 November 2011, 11:15:37
Hi guys, I have recently decided to get a brown switch board. I was considering red's but I would prefer a little tactility instead of my keyboard feeling like a broken pen top :/ (I like the slight tactility of rubber domes, so I guess I would prefer browns)

So I am looking for a nice full-size cherry mx brown keyboard, that can be bought with the UK layout.

Also if you recommend a board, could you tell me the best place to get one. Should I import? will it work out cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

*board lol :/

Anyway what do you mean? "it's easy to get a brown switch board" , I never said it was hard?

Also I asked you guys to recommend a board, I mean I need to know what board I want before buying it :)

There are a few great options right off the bat but it entirely depends on what you are looking for.
Extreme compact i.e no default function keys. KBC Poker
Moderately compact i.e with function keys. Noppoo Choc Mini
Compact i.e without numpad. Leopold, Filco, and many many others.
Full size. too many too list but also includes Filco and many more.
But if you want reasons backing up each choice I would recommend reading the review (http://geekhack.org/forumdisplay.php?38-reviews) section of the forums.

Ah sorry my eyes are very tired from a late night. I would recommend still reading the reviews section, although I do not have much experience looking into UK layout.
This might help from the wiki's http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=UK+Layout+Keyboards+and+UK+Keyboard+Shops

Aren't they just shopping links? Do you not have any recommendations for a board? I mean I was looking at the Filco Majestouch-2 Brown - full board, not sure whether to get the ninja or regular - I might even replace the keys with blank keycaps. Where is the absolute CHEAPEST place I could get one? I don't mind if it takes weeks to arrive, as long as I get a good deal :)

Edit: I could also get used to a US layout board, but ideally I would want UK - so I don't have to mess with keyboard settings when taking it to college etc.

What?... It would be helpful if someone could just point out what I asked. - I can be more specific if that's the problem. I would like a filco brown - full board. I would like to get it as cheap as possible, so I was wondering if importing it from somewhere would be cheaper, or is my best bet just to order one from keyboardco when the one I want comes back in stock on their website?

I am looking for some blank keycaps to go on the board too, if you could recommend whether to import them or just to get them from keyboardco that would be great.

Thanks.

Sorry, we just like to poke fun at people. No harsh feelings :)   (u'll get used to it lol)

Would you mind getting the original cherry brand keyboard? say.. G80-3000. I would get one if i am in europe

If you want filco, I am supposing keyboard co is ur best bet? Unless u are willing to get a used one from one of our members (or from deskthority forum), you'll be dealing with some unreasonable pricing.

Look if you are able to make this a one time investment (assuming u no longer read this forum or anything about mechanical keyboards) the price of a filco is somewhat justified (well..not really)... for its good build quality.

If you don't mind the Ducky quaky brand, their 9000 series are of decent quality and are worth looking into.

Well tbh the keyboardco pricing is pretty unreasonable, (£120 for a board - that's about $190 USD) but I will check out the market on this forum - but I doubt there will be any UK layout boards :/

I have two Filco browns and two Compaq browns, they are deadly boring. I heartily recommended them for you.

Noppoo Choc mini brown is pretty good too.

Ya, as a matter of fact quite a few people consider brown to be boring... meh... I like it.
