Post by: pitashen on Thu, 17 November 2011, 00:50:26
Guess they are pushing this model out before the KBtalKing Pure...  Take a look, its rather quite interesting:

Hopefully not a repo.

It looks like the Pure mated with a choc mini... interesting idea though.  It should make people who hate modifier keys a little happier.

Some nonstandard stuff they are implementing bugs me quite a bit.. I like to have my group buy keycaps fitted on to it.

They are already in the pre-order phase... so guess, if you got some connections in Taiwan.. can probably get one.

iMav mentioned he will start a group buy soon (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?21989-KBC-75-Backlit-HHKB-Killer&highlight=backlit+poker).  Last I heard it was delayed.

I like the layout and everything but I do not like illuminateable keys; consider me an anti-lightup kind of person.

Simplicity is my favorite concept; Plus, I have lighting in my office.

If you don't like the backlighting on this then just get a Choc Mini, they have a pretty similar layout.

I like this layout and case better than the Noppoo; the modifier sized Escape and Delete really intrigue me and the standardized angle and how the case is really fat in the back look good to me.

So much weirdness!

1. The escape key being so big makes it so that the F# keys don't line up with their corresponding numbers on the number row which would have been awesome since they are not separated by groups of 4 like on normal keyboards.

2. Right side modifiers... tiny control, no menu/meta key at all and no right windows key in favor of having huge arrows, which I'd likely prefer to be normal size. It's less fun to press big Cherry keys than it is to press small ones.

3. Fn key is in a horrible spot. It's on the right side of the keyboard but you'll have to send your left hand over to press it when hitting Fn + arrows for media controls.

What's the difference between the pure and race: they look pretty similar to me.

Me, I rather like the layout. I, too, am not a huge fan of backlighting, though.

and Oneproduct: My F1 key is right above the 2 on all my keyboards ('cpet the ancient WYSE, but it won't work on a normal computer anyway), whereas the KBtalknig race has the F1 exactly between the 1 and 2. I rather like it there.

If i'm not wrong, Pure is 60 or 65 keys, as for this KBT Race is 75 keys.

And Is by KBTalking and not KBC.

Both are 2 different parties.

That's fine for normal layouts where the F# keys are separated in groups of 4, because the separation lets you find them easily, but when they are arranged like this I prefer to have them aligned with the number. My laptop keyboard is like this, the Noppoo Choc Mini is like this, and the Poker gives you F# by using Fn with the respective #, so the layers are aligned in a sense.

Ok, then don't turn the backlighting on. :P

I dunno; this may sound weird but having the knowledge that it is a backlit kills it for me. Obviously I could turn it off but I would always know it has a bit of flash under the bonnet.

That is a very good point: one I had not considered. Still, it's not as much an issue for me, as I'm usually fine on my laptop, where the function keys are much shorter than the normal ones. I think I would prefer them to be aligned.

Right that makes sense. I went and looked up pictures of the pure, and I can see the difference now.

Same here. If I had backlighting, i KNOW I'd use it, then I'd feel bad for using it. I think the best idea is to put THICK keycaps on it, so the backlighting can be used, but is more subtle. Then I'd be able to feel happy. Good thing I have WYSE thick doubleshots to the rescue on that one.

Hmm, It'd be awesome if it were easier for people in NA/Europe to buy this, though. I know I'd be interested in one.
