What is the difference between filco and leopold stabilizers?

Filco and WASD keyboards use costar stabilizers.  Leopold uses Cherry stabilizers.

Yeah I am not a big fan of people all shouting read the Wiki without at least giving a general idea of where to look.

It isn't every single thing you need to know, but it does show good examples of both. Both are very good but some prefer Cherry saying it has a very comfortable squish feeling when being pressed. Others prefer Costar saying it feels like any other key on the keyboard so you get a very uniformed feeling across every key.

Thanks for the responses bloodygood and ripster, i wasn't sure where to look. I also have another question, if you don't mind, is there anything on how to take apart cherry mx switches that are plate mounted?

the costar/filco etc one feels more direct/desivie, whereas the cherry feels less so.
also i find take away the costar one is easier.

You de-solder the switch and then take it apart.

I think so. I usually use a nail pick from a manicure kit.

I tried it with my leopold, you can't get the upper part of the housing off because the plastic clamps on the side go almost to the bottom of the switch. I only kind of tried it though i didn't want to break anything.

It wont work unfortunately, because the bottom of the switch housing is under the plate.

Hum, I think this trick should work with our Phantom plates because with the H cutouts on the plate there is room for hooks of the switch top to move up.

have you guys thought about making a PBworks wiki? isnt it free? and it would be easier to organize.

i can also add information on razer blackwidow stabilizers if you guys care. they are filco/das/etc style, but they are thinner. i have wasd stabilizers on the way to see if they will fit.
