on sale at newegg for bout 50 bucks should i get it? or wait for the olidays and hope for a better price or a different mouse to go on sale?
-
I have one, and I like the shape of it, but I've had some driver issues where the mouse curser would randomly freeze and I would have to disconnect the mouse and plug it back in to get it to move. Sometimes when I was playing Starcraft II, the cursor would disappear and I couldn't get it to come back into the game. I deleted the Razer drivers and these issues were mostly fixed. Although this is the older version, so they may have fixed these issues in the newer one. Also, this mouse loves to attract any type of oil and dirt.

this or g9x
-
G9x. The Imperator isn't the best built mouse I've used in a looong time.
-
it's a very good mouse.
Just use the memory of it: program it then uninstall the drivers.
It will work perfectly.
Go for it.
-
It still uses the dreaded Philips Twin Eye sensor. The G9x has an Avago 9500 sensor, which isn't the greatest, but it's worlds better than the twin eye.
-
Never had any problem with this sensor. Never. People should stop with that. Really.

I had an imperator for a few days because I returned it. The thing was just unbearable. Swapped it for another of the same, because I thought it might have been an isolated incident. Second one was just as bad. Lift off issues and jittery on anything I put it on.

which mouse are you using for gaming? as for logitechs the mousewheel is a pain in the ass for fps (just curious)
-
I'm currently using a Logitech G700 (no problems with the wheel) and a Razer Deathadder (my third in three months... Bloody thing!)
-
DO you know if the 2012 versions of the Imperator and the Mamba have the same sensor issue?
-
I know the laser part of the sensor is still the Philips sensor, but I don't know if they've managed to overcome its failings with the optical sensor. That said, they could fix the mouse in a heartbeat by getting rid of the laser :P
Now I've got both mice in front of me, I'd say that the G700's wheel is a touch lighter in terms of middle click weight, and has side scrolling to boot. In terms of scrolling, the Deathadder is notchier than the G700, most likely due to the fact that it's much lighter. The Logitech build quality seems much better than either of the Razers I've used. No glossy sides to get ****ty and sweaty either, though the Deathadder Black Edition addresses this. I don't deny that the Deathadder has a WAY better sensor (ignoring lift off distance), but you don't use a sensor, you use a mouse, and the rest of the Logitech package is nicer to the point where the Deathadder is in the drawer 90 percent of the time.
PS: Pardon my medication and sleep deprivation inspired ramblings :P
EDIT: Found this at OCN:
Just tested it at E3. It has the S3888 and Philips twin eye. The optical sensor is used only for LOD (Turning on and off the sensor when lifted) and the Z-axis issue is still present.
Seems like Razer are still chasing the MOAR DEE PEE EYEZ!1!!11 crowd. :\

I think my next mouse will definitely be a CM Storm.
Maybe the Spawn (optical sensor) as I'm on Goliathus and don't have big hands.
This brand seems to build the best gaming mouses since at least last year. And prices are the best in regards of what you get.
Sensors are described to be over the competition and the mousewheel awesome.
Moreover, I love the look of the Spawn ^^
-
It's a good mouse. I've been using it. It's feel is just as good as the Razer Deathadders (which I used to have).
-
Overpriced, bad quality, buggy, Z-axis tracking sensor. Its a terrible choice for the price in my opinion.
The G9x, G500, TTesports Black Element, etc... are much better.
-
I believe that the TT mouse has the Philips Twin Eye as well, so it's going to have the same issues as the Imperator. I'll need to look into it more though.
EDIT: Confirmed here:

Stop talking bull**** at least on one point: it's not bad quality. It's the opposite. G9X is for sure.
G500 isn't really a gaming mouse and its scrollwheel is awfull for fps gaming.
TTesport is worse, ugly and with same sensor.
What's the point of buying crap instead if you don't like a sensor (for which I have no issue btw)?
I would propose then a better brand: CM storm Inferno and Spawn models.

Top mice ever to be made are easily the MX1000 and CMStorm spawn.
Da Bess.
Well built mice will always be better than an expensive sensor in a 10 cent casing.
Now, if you are actually technical about having the best engineered mouse for gaming, the things you should be looking at are scroll wheel tactility, ergonomics, and lift off distance. All of which Zowie Gear dominate the market on.

Storm Spawn (optical) + goliathus control = perfect combo to me.

I like my wireless enough to accept the flaws of my G700 :P
That said, I wouldn't mind picking up an MX518/G400. I love the shape.
Popol: I didn't really find the Imperator quality to be acceptable, given the price of the thing. I've not used a G9x, so I can't speak for it specifically, but other Logitech mice have always treated me well.
