Title: 'Loose' Topre / HHKB spacebar?
Post by: cheynestoking on Fri, 18 November 2011, 04:44:35
Hi, long time lurker but first time post - and of course it's with a problem ;)

The spacebar on my relatively new HHKB Pro 2 feels a little loose on one side (the side I hit the most).  There's a little 'give' before the key action actually takes place which makes it noisier and cheapens the feel.

Based on a cursory search through the forum I can't find any similar complaints, but is this something that anyone's come across before?  Is there a fix or is it just a trait of these switches?

Left hand end of the space bar?  If so, mine is the same - it moves about 1mm before meeting resistance.  I've never considered it to be a problem.

For me it's on the right-hand side.  It's only slight, maybe 1mm's worth of play like you say.

Mine's nice and tight, on two Topres. Sounds like a problem to me!

Edit: although mine does wiggle horizontally about 1mm.

It's called spacebar rattle. It is not unique to Topre keyboards, pretty common problem with stabilized keys.
