Title: Mini review: Unicomp SpaceSaver M

For our two-year anniversary, my wife got me this:

I'm stoked. I can finally put the Apple wireless keyboard to rest in a box somewhere since I have all the Apple keys and special function buttons at my fingertips on this new SpaceSaver.

Wife said it arrived in a couple days after ordering. Build quality is excellent. No noticeable keyboard wobble or variations in the width of gaps between the top and bottom plastic case. Keys don't have noticeable imperfections from the injection molding process.

Hard to rate the keyfeel since it's brand new, but I'm right at home since I was using standard SpaceSaver before this. That board softened up a little bit over time — if that makes any sense — and broke in nicely. I had to keep the damn Apple wireless keyboard for quick access to mute, volume control, etc, though. And then disaster struck: I spilled a bit of coffee. After letting it dry out, all keys except for 23wesdxc worked. I poured a gallon of distilled water through it and let it dry upside down on a towel for two weeks, but the problem didn't change in any way.

So I dug out my Customizer 104 as backup. I've always liked my Customizer but there's a chuffy gravelly aspect to it that I prefer less than the SpaceSaver's keyfeel. I yearned for the SpaceSaver and didn't say much about it to my wife. In the aftermath, as she watched me pour the water through its wounded guts, I mentioned that Unicomp had some new SpaceSaver with Mac keys. She has grown to love using mechanical keyboards since she met me. I remember during our recent trip to Disney World, she came back to the room from the lobby with coffee and said she noticed the Cherry logo on the POS systems they used at the check-in desk.

Apparently the traditional two-year wedding anniversary gift is cotton, so she covered that with the thermal shirt she picked up at Target. But a new SpaceSaver? That's a sweet wife. How lucky am I? I know some people on here have a really hard time convincing their partners that spending $94 on a pearl white clickey keyboard with Mac keys is a worthwhile investment, let alone receiving one as a romantic gift.

Type on!
