One nice thing is it's easy to mod to whatever switches you want, being that it's PCB-mounted. Ergo clears or whatever, anything.Not that easy, you still have to desolder the leds to remove the top part of the switch.

There is no backlighting level-adjust (dimming function) on this board, correct? I know there are a few modes, but I'm curious about brightness control.

I sort of wish my reds were as stiff as browns at their peak (50g?) They just need a little more umph. Other than that, I love that the feel of dirt in the switch is gone.

It is odd that the unshifted character on the special keys is the one on top, but I suppose that is a stylistic choice to make the keyboard unique. While I will have to pass on this offer, it looks like a nice keyboard.
It's not that odd on backlit keyboards, since the upper half of the key is the part on top of the LED. The number on those keys would be lighted, but the symbol portion of those keys is probably not lighted.

I would say white shows up to your eyes based on using Macbooks.

white light is made up of all colors so it would presumably have more yellow and other colors of light that your eye are most sensitive to. Which makes green a better choice for being easy on the eyes as I see it.
I may be wrong but I believe the human eye is not as sensitive to red making it the most easy on the eyes at night. On the technical side, we have a Holtek controller with full n-key rollover over PS2 and 6-key rollover over USB. There is no n-key rollover for USB, so the keyboard is fully working under all major operating system.
So how long will this be available? I don't have enough money for one right now but would be interested in getting one when I do in about a month or so.

ye most of the time its np... but for me its more of a thing that a keyboard that cost this much should have..still pretty happy with mine.. really like the keycapsAs far as I know, most of the commercial implementations of NKRO over USB have serious issues with BIOS compatibility, and some won't work at all with specific OS's. 6kro is much safer and almost as useful.

The Pure is a different keyboard. As far as I know, the Pure has not been released yet, at least not in mass production. From what I read around here, it's gonna be released soon. People say there will PROBABLY be a group buy here on GeekHack. If you don't want to rely on group buys because you can't wait, then use eBay, Taobao or Qtan's shop.

You could just be a **** and go to Fry's/Micro Center, buy a Corsair Vengeance K60, get the keycap puller from there, and return the keyboard. :P
Yeah, or you could save yourself the time, gas money and initial investment and just do it with paperclips like everybody else.
My paper-clips were too stiff to be used for a key puller, wasted 20 minutes trying to mold one. The filco one and other similar key-pullers are thin/flexible enough to grab around larger keys like the right shift on most ANSI boards, and they do it without damaging the keys.I'm going to buy a wire one when I order a massive amount of custiom PBT lasered keys from WASD later this year.
If you're buying enough boards / key-caps I'd just get one of the wire ones. Just makes things so much easier.

What exactly are the differences between Race (which we ordered here) and this elusive Pure? Does Race have littler keys, like an ASUS netbook (for 10yo hands)? Is Pure full size keys, but fewer of them to make it "60%"? That's about as much as I can figure, and I'm not sure I'm right. Something about a right shift too.
Just FYI, I bought one of each switch type because I've never used cherry switches before and I wanted to try them all out, so I'll be looking to sell the ones I don't like. I bought the green leds.

that's why there's a hesitation on setting eta/commitment for these things. when they're produced over seas and then shipped great distances, the slightest hiccup can cause huge ripples in the arrival date.I'm well aware of the dangers of such a group buy, but Vortex hasn't exactly been forthcoming with actual, real details about what's going on. that's becuase (as has become VERY obvious) they're not going to be the ones distributing it. they don't have much control over how people distribute their product, and clearly, minimal control over the production cycle... i'm guessing the runs they're making are JUST large enough to get into a manufacture that can afford them some price breaks to make these profitable, but not large enough to dictate a deliverable date. either that, or something unforeseen occurred, and i'm just talking outta my ass.
bottom line, vortex is VERY wise to not actually promise hard dates that they can't guarantee. that's just how these things go. that being said, it's worth waiting if it comes out with the desired quality, rather than having a product on time but sub-standard.
I don't think we're talking about the same things. I agree with what you're saying, but they actually ARE providing dates, and then they fail to deliver, with absolutely no explanation, just another date further in the future. Also, they are the distributor... they sell (or in this case, offer) large quantities to retailers and people running the group buys.
I'm all for giving them the benefit of the doubt... I just want my damn RACE :D

I haven't seen anyone here sell their pre-order for more than what they paid, but I HAVE seen people selling their preorders for full price AND at discounted rates; this also includes spare sets of white keycaps sold for discounted prices.
There are numerous buyer's on their thread selling their pre-orders. I would also consider everyone who gives up that pre-order as a lost customer (A), and the person who buys the keyboard from them is a new customer (B), who, would have bought the Race regardless of where they had to find it. If Vortex had been on time with their deliveries as well as production schedule, both customers (A,B) would be in possession of a Race keyboard.
Go back a few pages in this thread. Akimbo sold his for 150. That's more than what the original group buy was for. There have been others as well but this forum has deleted posts on this thread in this past so it's hard to keep track.
As far as Vortex not getting the product out in time, well that's the price you must pay when getting a niche product like this. If there was a tenkeyless backlit to compete with it sold by a reputable USA seller obviously people would go that way. For now these group buys still have their place until manufacturers start listening to what consumers want.

Is there a warranty on these keyboards?? The only thing I am worried about is that the LEDs will dim after a 6 months - 1 year of usage. To be honest, if you don't trust the owner of this website, you really should not be on it. It is THAT simple.
Let's be very clear about one thing: this has ****-all to do with trusting iMav. He has done nothing wrong here at all. This is about trusting Vortex. I will believe that Vortex shipped the keyboards when iMav says they've arrived on his doorstep. Until then, they suck.

It came with my first computer, a Dell with a CPU at 333MHz (Stock). I would assume I got it around 1999, and I was using a cheap compaq and dynex rubber-dome for a long amount of time... They both broke down, and when I went to the store to actually try a mechanical keyboard with all the different cherry MX switches I knew I had to test out. Once I knew what to try, and knew I had to look for a replacement keyboard, I stumbled across this DELL QuietKey and fell in love. Lol :(The type of switch your keyboard has is called "rubber dome" (short for rubber dome over membrane). Some mechanicals (like the BL82 by TG3) have a polymer sheet ower the switches, combining the two. Keyboards with switches by Topre have rubber domes over a capacitive spring and sensor. Very few keyboards have "mechanical" key switches that also incorporate rubber domes. Pretty much the only one I know of is that cortronics (hall effect) switch that used a RD for the spring. Some showed up in Canada a while ago.

If you read the OP, you would see that iMav prefers to ship items via USPS, so if you live in the CONUS, you won't get a tracking number, because USPS doesn't give you one unless you pay extra. The impatience of people in this thread amazes me.
Can't wait to get this keyboard, I play an MMORPG with over 40 keybinds....and not all of them register on this fifteen-year-old DELL QuietKey.

Which switch types did you guys get?I think I was one of the early ones when the only option was the Green LEDs. I got one with Brown and one with Red switches, both with green LEDs. The one with Browns is actually for a friend, I won't be keeping it. The one with Reds will go well with my White Race LE with Browns and white LEDs, though. ;)

Just got my Race in the mail earlier today.
I've just noticed that the right-hand side 'Alt' key does not light up. Other boards I've seen in this thread do, and there is certainly an LED underneath (it just doesn't turn on). I've restarted my computer, plugged it into other USB ports, etc.
Picture below is of my KBT Race and Ducky 9008S. There's a red circle over the non-lit 'Alt' key.
The plate on the back with the serial number on it was also not attached. It's a bit bent on one side, and still doesn't really fit into the slot cut out for it.
While I'm glad it's finally here, the build quality on this is really questionable for me. For a board that's more expensive than my 9008S, I really expected it to be completely problem free. A broken LED and a funky title plate, not so much. :(
What's up with that label plate on the back? There is an obvious spot for it in the middle of the keyboad but mine was stuck up in the far top right corner.

Still could take a while. I got my invoice on the 25th of July. Paid for it day of, and still no keyboard T_T. My friend who paid for his the same time I did got his already though. I'm not sure if I should worry that maybe mine got lost, or if it just hasn't been shipped yet.

Yes, they shorted iMav the white key caps and switched some of the switch/LEDs combinations without saying anything until after they shipped. I don't think there is an ETA.

Hey guys, quick question. I have my RACE plugged into my macbook pro, and none of the keys light up, except for the caps lock key (which only lights up when activated). Any ideas/suggestions for how I can get the key lighting to work on my macbook pro?

So I'm assuming that you actually read the instructions that came with the keyboard? To activate the backlighting you need to press FN +Z. Pressing it multiple times switches between the modes. By default, the keyboard is in an unlit state.
This is why reading the instructions on things you buy is important, kids.

yeah but due to the design of the case there will always be a little flex. it's really not worth worrying about on a $100 mechanical but w/e. i know $100 is a lot for a single product but it's not much in the keyboard game (when it comes to these kinds of 'original' designs), especially when you start considering $200 aluminum replacement cases that eliminate or lessen the flex.The race is just a big bigger so the flex is more pronounced.

I thought there was an extra screw on the RACE to hold down the PCB, to reduce the squeaking noise, compared to the Poker.

They feel like they are rubbing on something. They don't POP up & down with a light touch and crisp click. Yeah, the clonk is there, but it's no Filco. There is so much "friction" that I occasionally miss a key entirely. It is moderately annoying. Not what I expected from $120 worth of keyboard. The green lights are nice. The size of the keybaord is nice. They key layout is almost perfect. I don't know what they did to screw up the Cherry switches, unless, like I suspect, they aren't authentic Cherry switches. :-/ (Actually, I don't think they have totally defrauded us. Maybe they are just old, stored in a shipping container at the docks for 10 years, rusty, Cherry switches. I don't see the keys rubbing on anything, so I'm not sure why the touch is wrong. It just is. Maybe I'll have time to sleuth more later and come up with an answer. Right now, I'm typing on my beloved Filco Camo MX Blues with Wyse keycaps. HEAVEN! :-)
I'm being a wuss about tampering with the keycaps, but I want to know if i can swap my "Fn" key with the ":acorn:" & if it is recommended to do this when the keyboard is not plugged into a working computer.
just got my race. can't say i'm a fan of the blues... the space bar click feels especially weird. but nothing seems to be wrong with it so far.
LEDs seem fine. nothing unlit or whatever. the backplate is a little wonky, though. it looks like it doesnt' want to stay on. like, if i press the center of the plate, the sides kind of spring out. it just flexes. now were are my white keycaps :(

For anyone who has had their Race for a while, did you get flickering or dim LEDs? Have you found a way to fix it? I've tried to play with the capacitors, but I'm running on very basic circuits knowledge so it's not helping me.
