So does anyone know of a video card manuf. that doesn't require registration to get a real warranty?
-
No, but evga is not annoying about it. They also actually honor their rather exceptional warranty and make rma easy with cross shipping unlike most of their competition. Well technically they don't require registration of some cards, but it reduces the warranty to 1 year only.

MSI, Asus, Gigabyte. I heard Galaxy as well. Duno about ATI side, never had to rma my 5870s.

Actually, most of them don't require registration.
Sapphire, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte all have two or three year warranties and you don't need to register the card. That being said, it is worth getting an EVGA model with a lifetime warranty and registering it. It's easy to register and the warranty lasts longer than 2-3 years.

Yeah well, unfortunately I did not register the evga that died (and yes it's one with the lifetime). I didn't bother reading the super fine print because every other warranty I ever had was honored simply by possession of the item. If they want to be anal I have proof of purchase... but I don't need to throw my personal info about needlessly. I got a good 4+ years out of the card anyhow. I also won't be purchasing evga again due to their policies.

um egva rocks man.. It is a simple registering of your item. LIFETIME WARRANTY FTW!
for ati cards i like sapphire.

2 things: There's no large bold print on the front of the box or even on the bag holding the card that says this is a requirement to get the warranty. It's not easily found in the sales information provided by the vendor either. In fact the only reason I know you have to register your card is that now that I need my warranty and have gone to their site to use it I find that there is this pointless requirement. I have the card, I have proof that I am the original owner, that should be sufficient.
The second thing is that I don't give my information out. I don't use FaceBook, I don't fill out surveys or questionnaires unless every answer is a lie.
