Santa might bring me a board after my failed attempts to purchase a secondhand poker and choc mini. I am going to try a new switch with this one, and I was wondering everyone's opinions on reds. I tried blacks, and didn't fall in love because they were too heavy. I understand reds are far easier to push down, but are they a completely different experience? My main board now is blues.
In other news, any chance of an English, mx red, backlit red ducky shine coming out?

Browns and reds are my favorite. For pure typing speed and accuracy brown works best for me but red is a bit more fun to use because of how soft it is. If you're mostly using it for gaming reds are probably pretty nice too. In general though my vote would be for browns.
Like dante said, it's probably pretty easy to sell reds if you don't like it, but I think browns are probably pretty close to red in terms of popularity.

To me reds feel a lot softer than blues, which i do like. I actually used to use blues for typing but now I have moved over to reds and Im loving it. Thats just my personal preference - I like light, linear switches apparently :p

If you have tried browns, they are quite close in feel -- but only when you type fast enough not to notice the tactility much.
-
Reds are really, really nice - completely different experience to blacks in my opinion. I feel that make the tactile bump on browns feel intrusive.
The bottom out kind of contrasts the smoothness of reds - I put 40a o-rings from wasd on there after about 2 hours of use and they felt a lot softer and smoother. Ymmv.

Agree reds are sweet. I got meself a Filco with blacks just recently and I thought they were great at first but after a couple of days use I can't handle it. Blacks feel like you are constantly fighting against the keyboard.

i got a leopold with reds as a gift and... meh, reds are way over hyped.
i'll stick with my blues and browns.

It is always worthy to try any switch.
My experience cannot become your experience by posting here, you have to feel it.
Like sex, you will never know it until you try it. Red is sexy.

Browns and reds are my favorite.
Same!
To me reds feel a lot softer than blues
For me MX Red feels a loooooooooooooooooot softer than MX Blue...
The bottom line: I do like MX Red and I do think that it's worth trying it! Especially if you're a light typist.

Any suggestions for red boards that aren't terribly expensive? I really don't like the quick fire, and I already have a rosewill.

Low cost Red switches would be the PLU-87 which of course is not a great quality keyboard, but if you do want a quality keyboard with reds perhaps try:
Noppoo plate mounted with Reds

or the Poker pcb mounted with Reds
http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/item/mechanical-keyboard-poker/kbc-poker-mechanical-keyboard-/lid=18974426
Personally I would recommend a plate mounted, but since I love ultra compacts I am waiting to build a DOX ultra compact plate mounted with Browns.
Edit: someone selling their KCB Poker with Reds in the classifieds for 80

I think every switch is worth trying.

I love my reds! They are by far my favorite switch for gaming and I even had my best score on typeracer with them.
For just typing I prefer the tactility of browns and blues since I allways get some accidential key hits with reds.
Also reds really benefit from having o-rings which make the switch even smoother ....
bottom line: try them !!!!!!

I was very impressed with the reds when I had the chance to use them for a day. To me, reds and blues are easily the best MX switches. Browns are god-awful compared to either in my opinion.
I really want the Majestouch Linear R but they're not easily obtainable anymore so I guess I'll have to just get a Leopold off EK or something.
I used Noppoo Choc Mini, can anybody comment if Filco/Leopold reds feel different? They're all plate mounted.

Reds (or Ghetto Reds) are definitely worth the try...especially if your complaint about the Blacks is that they are too stiff instead of too linear.
Personally I don't have any issues typing long lengths with blacks (I am in the middle of my graduate project final report right now with my Deck Legend with MX Blacks...about 2000 words in and I have zero complaints), but I will admit that the lighter reds are much easier to type on for longer if you are prone to fatique while typing....luckily, I am not.
