also they added a white 87u 55g model.
and apparently they also had some click clacks for sale last night but those are long gone.
-
Just picked up uniform 45g White 87U and.....................there's still a CC key available :) Candy-corn ESC row for Cherry MX! Get on ittttt....
-
:*( checked the topre click clacks, the black one said in stock, but sadly the site was simply lying to me...
-
Whoops, just ordered another 87U Silent black. Oh, and a set of blue Topre key caps. I'll mix and match the blue caps between the pair of 87U's at home and work.

Well, the good thing is, you're going to be offsetting some of that cost by selling at least one of your current Cherry MX based keyboards when it arrives. Just saying...

I was thinking about maybe selling a board but I don't think I can let go of any of the ones I have atm.
Love them all too much. Want every switch lol (except blacks. I sold those after a bit)

*drool*
This is just what I DIDN'T need to see so close to Christmas....
-
How flexible are the EK guys? I would bite on a Cherry Red over the B-Stock Cherry brown, But, I want the Cherry Red in white, not black. Think if i posed them this, they'd be willing to give the discount on one of the white boards?
-
I would get the Leopold had I not seen the new Leopold that is coming out with the Topre-esque key caps.

That would make me buy a Leopold :D

PBT keys? how would that be topre esque

"Topre-esque key caps"
Considering Leopold makes Realforce keyboards, I guess you can assume the key feel and quality of these new PBT keycaps for the Leopold are on par with Topre

Did you not notice the design of the key caps?
-
Managed to get that last candy corn, may I ask how you guys are able to see exactly how many are left?
-
About as flexible as John Boner and the rest of the Republicans I'd say.
Bummer, I guess i'm going with the browns B-stock then. Merry Xmas.
-
Dang it........... I missed this by a week.
oh yeah.... and I missed the click clacks....sold out.
Oh well... maybe next time.
The skull thing... whats the deal with all the skulls.
Its cool and all.... but still. Would it kill them to throw
in like a mickey mouse or a transformer symbol would be kinda cool too.
How about a V for Vendetta mask....

You have got to be trolling, it's called a Guy Fawkes mask.
And I would buy the **** out of that!

I think I'd snag that too.

Hehe are you sure about that? :)
-
..damn EK .. broke down and picked up a couple to complete my RF collection... too bad I couldnt have waited to buy my 87U 45g from them couple of months back.
-
What's the sudden reason for such a price drop? Always thought red switches were supposed to be 'better' (since they're so light)and hence more expensive, or atleast that's what people made'em out to be...
-
Sometimes I'm thinking that registering on geekhack was one of my mistakes. Some keyboards/keycaps are already ordered/shipping, christmas gifts are on their way, yet I just ordered a Topre board. This better be as good as people here claimed, because if I want to be poor, I'd rather be happy and poor than sad and poor :X
-

What do you mean by B-stock?
Does it have something to do with this:
Model: FC200RE/AB
------------------^
If so, can you explain the model naming schemes for the Leopolds to me? I'm going to get one soon to replace a PLU with browns I just killed, I don't know which to get though
-
b stock:
Factory-refurbished demos and returns
FC200RT = Brown
FC200RC = Blue
FC200RR = Red
FC200RL = Black
FC200RE = Clear
the B in the example you provided stand for Black, the color of the keyboard case/keycaps

So is there any way to tell which ones they sell are new and which are refurbs, or was he referring to getting them from another place?
-
all of EK's stock on their site is new. the b stock he was talking about was from a post brian made in the classifieds section
-
got my shipping notice today...
If you are waiting to place your order... looks like the 45g models are running low.
White 87U 45g - 7 Left
Black 87UB 45g - 4 left
Looks like everything else is stocked pretty well.
-
just a question.. because I ordered the 87u variable weight (like i posted earlier in this thread) but
do they come with PBT keycaps?
I am just wondering because I was under the impression that they do but I cannot find it on the page that says pbt keycaps.
When you look at the 103u / ub, the PBT keycaps are mentioned. so a bit confused.
-
yes, all RF come with dye sub PBT keycaps.
-
yes, all RF come with dye sub PBT keycaps.
gotcha.
and sorry don't mean to be a pest but i'm obviously assuming then the colored topre keycaps that they sell on EK are also dye sub PBT?
-
indeed they are, which explains the high price.
too bad they don't sell replacement (well, other colors) keycaps for HHKB, im looking to buy a HHKB before the year is over and it would be awesome if they had all red

Would love that also.. closest we can get is the blanks but would love a printed set.

Just bought a 87UB 45g and a 23UB and am now with my HHKB I am satisfied with having a Topre 45g for every situation.

Yea i know but I have been holding off buying it for a while and its regularly out of stock. A nice numpad comes in handy especially with a HHKB. I believe I should be able to set the numlock on both the 87UB and the 23UB to be independent of the system right other wise if I use them together the will be mayhem.
-
Two Red Leos ordered. :cheer2:
(First post on Colemak, whoo.)

Ordered a 45g realforce yesterday
Looks like Christmas is coming early this year

Yes very very much so :(

I think I'm going to pick up a RF87U, though I still can't decide between the variable and 45g. I touch type and do mostly programming stuff. I don't play any games at the moment. Any advice? I also already have a HHKB Pro 2.

HHKB is 45g so go with the 45g sice thats what your used to and itll be easier to switch beteeen the 2.

The variable is engineered for those who use a formal method of typing in which each of the typist's individual fingers are used to type within specific 'zones' of the keyboard. If the typist does not adhere to this method of formal typing (i.e. the typist uses his ring finger to type 'a' instead of his pinky), then the appeal of the variable weighting to create a more ergonomic experience is lost. Observe the way that you type and base your decision from there.
Furthermore, a problem with the variable weighted RF's is that the keys designed for the pinkies to type on are so light that you are not able to rest your fingers on homerow without accidentally depressing 'a' and ';'. Personally, I didn't like the variable weight's feel and would recommend for you to go with the uniform 45g.
-
That "formal method of typing" is how most people are taught to type in school. It's nothing special. If you touch type, then you probably won't notice the Realforce's variable weighting (while typing at least). If you hunt and peck, its benefit is lost as ladiesman points out.
-
For some reason I haven't been able to access the EK website for the past couple of days. Is anyone else having this problem?

I just tried it and it works for me.
-
Did you insult Carl Matsu?
I don't think so...
I can't access EK from either Chrome or IE. Annoying.
-
Works for me as of three seconds ago.
-
Works for me on all the browsers I use. Jim, it could be your computer, your proxy, or your ISP. Try it on your phone if you have internet access on your phone, or try it on a different computer or with a different internet connection.

That's BS. It has never happened to me.
-
Lol I'm sure there are many other people that can attest to a's and ;'s spamming on their screen out of nowhere.
My sources? Google it
-
It's happened to me, but it's just a matter of getting used to the lightness. No biggie (for me at least).
-
It can be a problem for WASD games. I found myself turning left randomly very oftenly and I had to consciously prevent my finger from fully resting on 'a'.
-

esdf > wasd

+1, I'm typing on one write now aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa;;;.
EDIT: No seriously it is BS, It has never happened to me. When my fingers are not typing they are very lightly touching the home row, I wouldn't say that I press them.
-
Lol by calling it bs you're completely dismissing the problem from the keyboard. You should take into consideration the other people that rest their fingers on homerow with a slightly heavier touch.
-
Stupidest design decision that Topre ever made.
Not the ABS spacebars? *gasp*
-
OK. Second Stupidest.
But they made that one LOOOOooooonnngggg ago.
It's called the HOME ROW for a REASON Topre!
People who sit in the home row should get out more.
-
Any who was thinking of getting the 87UB 45g , there is one left so better get on it ... Also 6 left of the 87U 45g.
Got my boards nice and safe today....:thumb:
-
I hurd SC2 and WoW console ports are great.
Hah - look who's talking. You're an ESDF user. You haven't heard PC Gaming is Dead.
Anyhoo when you sell lots of key sets at $110 you can afford to drop prices on the keyboards.
-
Lol by calling it bs you're completely dismissing the problem from the keyboard. You should take into consideration the other people that rest their fingers on homerow with a slightly heavier touch.
I have a heavier touch, and cherry blacks is my favourite switch, yet I have not experienced that problem with the RF.
-
Good for you. The matter-of-fact is that many other owners experience the problem I stated earlier, including me.
The problem obviously pertains to some individuals while not to others. Don't be so close minded.
-
I just wanted to share a different experience, though I agree it could be a problem with the lighter 30g keys on the 86u.
However the 87U variable has 35g pinkies.
-
Same for me, I just wanted to share my personal experience that I don't have a problem with variable weighted Topre. I didn't want potential buyers to miss out on the joys of typing on a variable weighted board based on your personal experience alone.
Perhaps I was a little zealous to jump on the BW band wagon. Sorry.
-
My variable was an 86ub so if what you're saying is valid then that would explain why you didn't experience the same thing.
The 87u variable specs on ek lists the weighting as 30, 45, and 55g, and that was what I was going by when I was following through with my argument. Those specs could be wrong though for all I know.
-
Somebody check the 86 using the RipOmeter (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:6189).
I don't have an 86U, but the Topre Uniform 30g I used for my mod RipOmetered exactly the same as the "35g" of the 87U variable. I'm not sure where the "35g" comes from, as Topre publishes it as 30g, and there doesn't appear to be a difference.
-
I just received my 87USB this morning along with a set of blue topre key caps.
Something is retarded with the key caps though. I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I think someone screwed up in the "makes sense" department.

I was going to swap around my ctrl and caps locks keys... but that's going to be even MORE confusing... Way to think things through guys.

Yeah I don't why when you buy a RF 87U it comes with the changeable caps lock <->ctrl keys but with the 104 keyset it doesn't :frusty:
I just keep the ctrl and caps lock the keys the way it is but its really the other way around lol
-
well, it's odd, it seems to come with the changeable caps lock keys... just that someone screwed up and printed "Caps Lock" on the non-lit version that SHOULD say "Ctrl" and "Ctrl" on the smaller lit one that should say "Caps Lock"
-

Looks that way to me Im glad I didnt get a set now and that would rather tick me off and well I cant get keys for my 23UB.

No, the windowed keys are for 87U, the windowless ones are for 104U, same deal as the numlock. Those color sets don't have swapped capslock/ctrl keys for 87U.
-

So sad about that :(
Oh well my ctrl is my caps lock, and vice versa that's the best I can do
