Apparently, the switches are not ALPS nor rubber dome, but some cheapo kind of spring over membrane mechanism.
There is a review here (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:9868). I think that what colinstu refers to as "Cherry Clears" are Cherry MY (linear) switches and not "Cherry MX Clear".

Somebody should do a Apple Keyboard Wiki.

The Apple Keyboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Keyboard) page on Wikipedia is already quite detailed but it is lacking information about the switches.

Buckling rubber sleeves.

No they are not. I had already posted a link to a thread with pictures of the switch (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:9868) above.

This is the board that shipped with the Apple LC II (my first desktop).  It also explains why I always thought the dell keyboards at school so much nicer.

In Portland, Powells bookstore has a collection of vintage PC's and computer parts.  They have them out where you can touch them.  I've been meaning to ask if the staff removed a key or two from each board or if they were lifted by key thieves.  Their NeXT board is missing a few.

Is that Apple key DS or printed?  You're right.  I would totally butcher a NeXT for that key.

So far, from my humble observations there were at least these variations:
  A9M0330 had ALPS and Montereys
  M0116 had different ALPS
M0487 had buckling rubber sleeves and whatever that plastic/spring combo is known as

Those definitely look like Mitsumis ... Hmm... if that is a M0487, then what model is colinstu's keyboard? I interpreted his post as his being a M0487, and his video is very blurry but it looks kinda like "M0487"..

Apple created enough confusion through variation. I still look for A9M0330 "Made in Japan" which features "Yellow Taxi" ALPS because it just rulez over the A9M0330 "Made in Taiwan" with Montereys that I have. How one could sell different keyboards under the same product name ... heh.

I could provide images for lots of the recent ones if someone did. Have quite a few models here.

I always give away the keyboard that comes with a new Mac I buy to some family members.
