Title: Are these coloured keycaps ok?
Post by: GeorgeStorm on Tue, 13 December 2011, 06:26:53
As above, I'm a new convert to mechanical keyboards, got a Ducky DK1087 with blue switches on Friday, loving it, and I'm looking to get some new keycaps, have been looking at these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Orange-37-Pcs-Replaceable-Keycaps-Cherry-MX-Filco-Steel-Jaki-Das-Plum-Engrave-/150660850479?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item231416232f
and/or

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either the seller or the keycaps themselves and so can comment on quality etc, or any recommendations for other places to get them??
I looked at qtan, but these are quite a bit cheaper, and I'm just wondering why? (also offer more options than qtan)

Thanks

I have no experience with the seller or these particular keycaps, but they're listed as ABS, while qtan's are PBT. You can read up on them in the wiki here, but most people prefer PBT keycaps and they tend to be a bit more expensive.

Could you recommend a seller of PBT caps then? (since qtan doesn't seem to sell the keycaps I'd like)
If they are worth the extra over ABS

I bought a set of orange blank caps from him a while ago and had no issues with the seller. The caps are alright, no complaints there, but i haven't really had much to compare them to.. they do feel a slight bit 'hollow' compared to my ducky pbt though.
A couple pictures on my Ducky. (add the "."s) subconsciousboredom.blogspot com/2011/12/ducky-9008.html

I have seen orange sets like those on TaoBao.cn, but I'm not certain if they are PBT.  Colored PBT seems to be extremely rare at the moment, aside from those made by signature plastics, but SP doesn't make PBT space bars.  The only full sets of PBT keys are currently black or white.  Those that come up for sale in colors (like the rainbow ones) are usually just white sets that have been dyed.  If you just want one of the 37 key sets, though, have a look at these threads.  KBC sometimes does batches of POM caps (more slippery feel and semi-translucent) in many colors.  Those are sometimes reffered to as "jelly" caps.

even though some of those threads are old, you can still contact the OP to inquire.

WOW, free US shipping.  Well, there you go.  Someone needs to add that site to the shopping wiki.

Either way, if your shipping was reasonable, then you got a very good price.  Yes, do post pics when you get them!

Good luck with purchase.

Ali as a whole is very unpredictable, but that particular seller Man Leung is a legit one. He used to only sell K-Force caps which I believe a few others besides myself on here had bought some from. I can't say much good about the k-force caps though. Most of the printing rubbed off in a couple weeks and I just tossed them. You DO get what you pay for, and I really didn't expect them to be great for $6 shipped.

hmm... Yeah, I take that back.  They don't allow paypal.  Apparently the domain is owned through a holding company by alibaba, which would make you think that it was legit?  But, it is China...  It doesn't look like you have the same success getting your money back as on ebay.
