This is the only place I could think to post this, but I just came across a company that charges 15% to facilitate all sorts of purchases from Japan.
http://whiterabbitexpress.com/
Apparently you just send a link to the item you want, pay for it and they handle the rest. May be a worthwhile company to look into.
BTW, I have no affiliation with them and don't know anything about them outside of what they purport to do. Are there even any items geekhackers import from Japan?

Ah, didn't think of that... being in the US and not foaming at the mouth for some exotic import I don't often think of the WW Shopping Wiki.

Do you know what kind of fees they charge?
Edit: I found it on their site:
15% fee for buying service, $15 minimum
+
local tax and local shipping
+
service fee by weight:

Japanese brokers are way to expensive

So I checked with this outfit. For the Topre metal case, it is listed on rakuten for 11,800 yen. That is around $151.04US. Before adding actual shipping cost from Japan to the US, they told me it will be $179.14. For around $28 of agent fees, that is not too bad. But it will cost around $40 to $50 to shipping from Japan to the US via EMS.
Thanks for the tip, Crash!
