Martial law?
RIP Americans.
I'm going to go stock up on soup and weapons.
-
Yep, now the "government" can arbitrarily declare any American citizen a national security threat and haul him/her off to never be seen or heard from again.
This isn't a surprise to me as I have been following this type of world tyranny for a few years now.
There is a common poison that has usurped all Western nations. These criminals raped Russia and Eastern Europe creating the USSR. Now the very same Bolshevics and Oligarchs have forced the European Union and the USSA on the rest of us.
Take your fake fiat currency out of the bank and buy silver and gold. Bury it if you have to. Stock up on food, tools, seeds, and ammo.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

I live in California. Guns are a bad word here, ammo just as bad. Many people here won't say out loud they own a gun...it gets others 'excited' and 'concerned'. Somehow the mentality seems to be, if you own a gun, it's bad for the police, or you're one of 'those people', or why do you have a gun? That's so dangerous.
-
What I am reading is that this is merely an extension of the military's authority to detain enemy combatants without trial. We can argue about whether that authority is a good or a bad thing, but it's not new, it's not arbitrary, it's not without recourse for the detained, and it doesn't constitute martial law.

What you are reading is merely an affront to the US constitution, thus an illegal act of treason.
This act repeals the Posse Comitatus Act (“the power of the county").
This is martial law. It protects no one from "terrorists" or "enemy insurgents". More people die from bee stings than terrorism. I suppose we should detain all bees in detention centers.
The real threat is now the "government" and the power to kidnap and kill American citizens with no reason or accountability through the use of the Military, not the police. BTW, the police have been steadily militarized over the years just in case no one has noticed. You see these goons walking around in black combat uniforms. How come it's ok for our police to wear black uniforms but it was bad when the Nazis did it?

Right. Nothings changed, right or wrong. It's not the New World Order or the beginning of the end (that's already started, lol).
But it's always a good idea to have a clean water source and some non-perishable foods just in case (a whopper earthquake could really ruin a romantic weekend with the little woman if you need to fight your way through the throngs for some canned yams).

Now I know you're trolling.
P.S. I thought you lived in Canada?

Indeed. I see gun ownership and extensive food storage as vital emergency preparedness.

I smell something cookin'...what is that?
Oh, I know, it's BOILING FROGS!!!!

Nazis wore black? I didn't realize they were Goth! But seriously, they had some sharp uniforms, too bad they were on the wrong side.
My emergency preparedness is limited to how much is in my stomach at any given time. Not wise if you consider how easily serious food disruption could be in the bay area for a week if some millennium earthquake blew out roads and power.

Those of us in Ontario and north eastern US probably are a little more prepared after that 3 day black out we had a few years ago...at least I hope so. I couldn't even make a freakin' coffee!
Now I have a gas stove, percolator, & several gallons of water ready to go any time. :D
And yes those Nazi uniforms were definitely pretty bad ass.

Nah, water's fine. I've been in for a while now. :P

Ditto on the coffee. Otherwise...why bother?
Yea, I would say most people here just are not prepared for too much. No hurricanes, ice storms, tornados, floods, power outages, to keep us on our toes. Temps 40-90, rain 10"-30", not an extreme place.
-
So they are trying to make Europe into Federation. And in US they are taking the rights, for fight something they themselves caused...
World is going in bad way...
-
Well I can't say much to "wake" anyone who doesn't want to be awoken.
But I will say this:
Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail.

This +1 but remember that man can live forty days without food, three without water, eight minutes without air, but barely a moment without hope.

i'm more scared of SOPA.

Funny, it's the exact opposite in Texas. If you don't have a gun, you're "one of those people."
Remember, kids, the police only exist to write the report. You need to protect yourself.
(I want to throw up every time I hear that.)

This is not to compare somebody with AH. It is a fact though that this was one of the first crucial steps Adolf Hitler made to take actions against unwanted persons such as regime critics. He declared the war rights over Germany.

Buddy, I just DID throw up after reading that...

Joe Arpaio was, is, and always will be a scumbag. He keeps getting re-elected (which is absolutely unbelievable) I suppose because there is no one else that seems to want that **** job. Only rednecks and closet rednecks vote for that clown. Funny, no one I ever talk to admits they want him in, but he keeps getting another stint.

Deterrent. The death penalty as a deterrent must be the reason why the crime rate in the US is so low compared with countries that dont have death penalty. Deterrent against crime. Cool story bro.
-
Come on guys; you have to be crazy to think that the Government didn't kidnap and hold people before this law was put into place - even before the Patriot act.
I think it's possible that it does. I don't assume it though. The government is made up of regular people with limited resources and competing interests, constrained by real limitations. They are not the guys from CSI and 24.
My worthless opinion sees the law as another psychological deterrent to potential future law breakers. If the fear of going to "hell" didn't scare people off, this might. It has nothing to do with terrorists and everything to do with keeping the unstable nutcases from doing something harmful.
This is conspiracy theory territory for me. Some in Congress and the military think detention and interrogation of enemy combatants without due process is necessary to protect the country. I'm not sure I agree, but I don't think they have motives other than protecting the country from harm. I definitely don't believe the motive is to frighten regular citizens. Standard civilian law and punishment are sufficient for that.

Why would you want to do that?
Oh, well, here, read what the Supreme Court says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia
I'm licensed to carry a firearm concealed and I have been trained. My wife and I avoid bad situations as best we can but I'm never going to rely on a bunch of fascists in black uniforms who take twenty minutes to respond.
On my list of things that I never want to happen, right there at the top (1 and 2) include:
Number 2, take the life of another human being.
Number 1, have my life taken away from me in a moment of violence.
An individual's responsibility to protect himself is as innate a reality as his desire to do so.
-
Number 2, take the life of another human being.
Number 1, have my life taken away from me in a moment of violence.
Number 0, have the lives of my loved ones taken because I was not prepared to intervene.
-
Number 0, have the lives of my loved ones taken because I was not prepared to intervene.
That too! That too kind sir.
I was more thinking of that as part of Number 1 but it is both true and very cool to have that as Number 0.
-
Losing your loved ones is indeed another terrible sense of "having your life taken away."

I could not agree more.

So when are they coming around to instal my thought crime monitoring devices?

If you have to ask, then you don't know. . .
. . . and that could only mean they already did.

Highlighting a period of austerity and a winding down of decade-old conflicts, the bill is $27 billion less than Obama requested and $43 billion less than Congress gave the Pentagon. The bill also authorizes money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and national security programs in the Energy Department.
"wars in Iraq..."
Didn't the US just moved out the last soldiers? (Quite a few years too early might I add)
Unnerving many conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats, the legislation also would deny suspected terrorists, even U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention. House Republican leaders had to tamp down a small revolt among some rank-and-file who sought to delay a vote on the bill.
This part sounds like a lot of critics will disappear. Isn't there some kind of court that watches over the constitution and is able to dismiss such a violation of human rights?
The right to a fair trial is furthermore enshrined in articles 3, 8, 9 and 10 of the American Convention on Human Rights.

WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

I definitely detect sarcasm here...at least I HOPE so. :)

Oh really...then you may be interested in some of the Orwellian characteristics of what the DHS considers potential terrorist suspects (even the Culturally Marxist ACLU, suspiciously, has decried the NDAA:
7 Days or more food supply
Belief in Conspiracies
Buying Flashlights
Missing Fingers
Own Precious Metals
Owning guns and ammo
Paying Cash at Hotels
Ron Paul Stickers
Occupy Activists
Tea Party Activists
Texting Privately in a Public Place
I bet you exhibit at least one of these attributes...and these are just a few examples. You can arbitrarily be labeled a suspect and be carted away without any due process.
Dr. William Pierce said that you can not try to explain to a lemming that following the herd will lead to his inevitable demise, you must convince the lemming that the herd has taken a new path.
Just remembered this line, don't know why...
That is from George Orwell's book 1984. If you haven't read it, consider it or get the audio book or the movie.

Yea, I read it and I sure now why that came to my mind (I had to look up the exact quote)
A great book not only in its message, but also in the extremely fitting style of writing and story telling.

Not to mention that it parallels much of what is happening today although many events have transpired to a degree more draconian than even Orwell himself had imagined.

I guess this is the new "American freedom" that you have share with some middle east countries. Is very sad that america is lossing one of the main values, its FREDOM

Agreed!
"As a former constitutional lawyer, the president should know better," said Raha Wala, advocacy counsel for Human Rights First. "This legislation not only undermines the Constitution, it compromises national security. The president needed to show leadership on this, and he's failed."
Obama sure IS a failure. We need to get that guy outta here. I'm pretty sure ripster plans to vote for him again.

Whenever anyone says they still support him, I can't help but initially think they are being sarcastic. It's much like Bush supporters but then Bush supporters knew what they were getting when they voted for him and they got it (why I voted for Gore). When it comes to Obama, he was elected by and these people voted for him for promising to close Guantanamo, stop wire tapping, and make government more transparent. At least when Bush supporters continued to support and vote for him, they weren't voting for a different guy, same guy.
Obama 2012 is not the same as Obama 2008 and arguing that most of the Republicans aren't any better is no argument for Obama.
Politics = Bull****.

obama needs to go, lets rally support for ron paul, a no BS white guy... sure he doesn't believe in evolution, but we could do worse.
