I am for sure looking forward to this and from what I can see it's looki9ng good. I'm really surprised there is a trailer this long an detailed an full year before the release. I would have expected a teaser.

post production can take a long time as well. So it is not so surprising that they got plenty of footage to show off.

the game was better

Is it weird that I think the trailer feels too much like LOTR? The Hobbit has a distinctly lighter tone and style than LOTR's somber, saga-like prose. I hope that gets reflected in the upcoming movies.

As much as i like LOTR, I am looking forward to this film. The trailer seems to fit the book in its humor.
As long as it takes the film to be released I recommend watching/reading Game of Thrones.
There should be more fantasy films based on good novels like this. But I fear we will get another robin hood bull**** and another crap sequel of one of the generic action movies before one touches the epic fantasy novels.
The Hobbit is going to be epic. Also Ridley Scots film shurely is.

Right on!

Looking forward to Prometheus too. Oh and let's not forget Dark Knight Rises. 2012 could be an epic year for movies.

I'm afraid, so afraid... Fortunatelly, it can't be worse than the 1977 movie.
I have always kind of liked the 1977 hobbit because growing up my dad and I would watch it. I am so very excited for the new one, been waiting a long time for it. They did a fantastic job with the trilogy (although I have to admit, they allowed a few to many long, extremely gay, looks between frodo and sam happen) and I am sure the Hobbit will be even better.

I was already humming Far over the misty mountains cold when I saw this thread, but then, I have been humming it almost all the time for the last few days ...
Next year, I don't know if I will be waiting in line with my friends for three days and three nights, in cold winds, snow and rain with only a tarp and a sleeping bag for shelter just to get some tickets to the back row of the theater on opening night, as I did eight years ago ... but oh, I so want to relive the experience of seeing a movie based on a Tolkien book on opening night. I had been dressed up as Gandalf the White. It had taken quite some work to sew and embroider the garments, engrave the brooch and build the staff.
The year before, for the The Two Towers premiere, I had dressed up in a pleated brown wool robe, light blue pointed hat (out of fabric) and a staff that I had just improvised together with a spiral of papiér maché on top. Eerie that Gandalf's staff in the Hobbit movie should also have what looks like a spiral of paper in the crown ...
I have only the hat... and it needs strengthening. Should I spend the time on making an accurate replica costume, and a new staff? hmm...
