Overall, impressed! At the price though I can only afford the one instead of the two I was planning on.
Disappointed with lack of 3xDVI ports, hopefully will be addressed in non-reference cards

Fix your links. There are a few that got replaced with ellipsis
I think it is ok. I like the cool and quietness of it. I'd buy one.

ati/amd drivers have always been bad compared to nvidia. wait for a new catalyst release.
also
Because of the loss of a DVI output connector, AMD will be including a HDMI to DVI and mDP to DVI adapter with this video card, so you won't actually lose that DVI port if you use the adapters included.
and an eyefinity card, if there is one, probably won't have any dvi ports

Links now fixed: :0)

I would probably prefer Nvidia as well, but competition is what keeps Nvidia's product competitive and good in quality :P

The 7970s should launch with the 7950s. I'd like to see how they're compared and how much of a price difference they have. I'm considering getting 2x 7950s for CF but I'd like to see the prices and benches. I'm going to be building a computer for the first time in 10+ years and want to get great performance for a good price. I hope nVidia will come out with their new cards soon. I've heard Q2 April 2012 and some others Q4 2012. Hope they don't wait that long.

I'm in the same boat as you, well almost 6 years for me. I think 2 x 7950 is going to be a safe bet, but at the moment I'm actually considering a single 7970 with another to follow later on in the year.
But like you said, will depend on the performance of the 7950 in comparison to the 7970

Although I have heard that AMD/ATI have come a long way, I have still heard of all sorts of dirvers trouble for people. The CF issue for Skyrim was pretty big for people. Hopefully the nVidias will be nicely priced to match the AMD stuff and I'll see if I can get those instead.
Edit: The only reason why I'd want to CF/SLI is because I want three monitors, with one @ 120hz. If I was only doing one or two, a single card would be great for me.

Agreed. I just haven't had the best luck with ATI cards. My last "top end" ATI got mad framerates but had a stuttering issue (widely known) and the vsync on it was horrible.
Even after supposed bios hacks to fix the issue I couldn't get any satisfaction.
-
nvidia has tons of issues as well. for example, muliple monitor support in battlefield 3 is completely broken and nothing has been done to fix it.
i've had a lot better luck with ATI/AMD cards. I came from a 9800 then a 4850 and i have a 6870 now. i've never once run into an issue with any of them. my current 6870 has been rock solid. i'll grab a second one soon when the prices drop.
-
i'd take multi monitor issues over the texture pop-in in rage any day
-
Yeah I always prefer nVidia cards, but my last two cards have been AMD simply because they've been significantly ahead of the game. I'm at the stage where I'd like to get a new card again and once again it looks like it'll have to be AMD.

Here's a couple of leaked details about the 7950 and 7990. (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/AMD-Radeon-HD7990-HD7950-ati,14366.html)

Fake.

May pick up a 7950, if they are reasonable in price. I'm on a 6950 now and theres not a single game that I don't think I could play on Ultra.

The 7970s are out on NewEgg. Last time I checked, the XFX version was sold out. People must be made of money or something, because it sold out in like an hour.
