I have a Juno-106, but I haven't been using it for some years which is a bit sad. It is such a beautiful machine. The lack of velocity annoys the, though.

For any of the programmers in the house, check out http://overtone.github.com/ (http://overtone.github.com/). It's a Clojure based interface to SuperCollider. Easily the most fun software oriented synthesis I've experienced. There are lots of examples and videos available showing what people have done. It lets me combine my love of music and functional programming, so it's a win for me at any rate!

Has some of the best sounds, full size 88 WEIGHTED keys. I can play Bach on a Steinway or Van Halen's "Jump" on an old 80s synth. I love this piano....

Other then that, I recently purchased an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88, it works great with the software I'm using, I can map most of the controls with the audio software (Native Instruments Anyone?) what can I say, I like to dubstep...

Only caviot on the Keystation.. bought it used on ebay and I think, or hope, there's a short in the rear USB plug. The piano appears to be disconnecting from my PC often. Sometime soon I need to take the whole thing apart and look for a cold solder joint.

Yeah forgot to mention, stand alone synths are great, but a good MIDI controller and the right software... It's Dynamo!

Many others have come and gone, but i think it's one I will never get rid of. I generally use the pile of carts I have for it, but also softsynths over midi. I have a Juno as well, but it's still broken... got it cheap at a flea market, still haven't gotten around to full diagnosis to get it working.

My friend has the same exact one. He tries to do some electro and other analog sounding stuff on it. It cant do any of the wobwobwobwobwob stuff without software to repeat the waveforms though

Post by: Hubris on Wed, 01 February 2012, 10:17:40: K2000 I picked up on Ebay for a couple hundred--it was a steal as it came with a gallon baggie full of official sample diskettes, and had most of the possible ROM upgrades. Used to get a battery warning and I thought I needed to do surgery. Surgery. To replace the internal Battery.

Turned out it was just the AA's!

I also have a Waldorf Blofeld module--fantastic machine and I wish I had the money to get the keyboard version as well--not that the K2000 isn't a stellar semi-weighted keybed, but there are days when I and MIDI cables don't get along... It complicates my setup a little. At least I don't need physical patch bays.

Reason is a fantastic time sink, but I'm still searching for a good midi controller that will allow me to work the faders and knobs physically and simultaneously and intuitively. That probably won't ever happen. Until then, I'm stuck trying to program CV stuff to do it, but that's harder to work out ahead of time than to discover with twiddling. Half the time I'm just throwing a bunch of parts in a box and shaking it. Not quite the same as being able to twiddle a panel of knobs. Clicking and dragging just...not the same.

I have a few other soft synths as well. Love the Prophet V emulation. The key to making it magnificent (for me) involved routing it out of one audio interface, and back into another that fed into Guitar Rig 3. This requires something like ASIO4ALL because ASIO is broken by design, but lets me make a smooth clean organic sound from the Prophet, and run it through emulated guitar effects pedals and speakers. If I really want to blow it up, I run it through a (physical) tube amp first.

I don't actually play with the gear often enough mind you. Mostly it sits on my desk and stares at me. But there is some satisfaction at just having that power at my fingertips.

Right now I'm just using a MIDI controller.

Most recently I had a first generation microKORG but I was really underwhelmed by it. Managed to sell it for more than I paid for it though (strangely).

However, I would like a nice workstation and if the price weren't so high I'd like to buy a nord Stage 2. ...or if Kurzweil ever gets their **** together maybe I'll look at those -- Korg is absolutely spanking them in features for a while now.

I would also like a HyperSID/MIDIBox SID/Sidstation, but I guess HyperSynth is okay too. :(
