I read in another post that you avoid ducky's at all costs. I'm not saying they're the BEST, but that's pretty extreme :o I thought they had damn good quality.

His criticism of ducky is mainly from the 1k series. They are cheap but also not great in quality.
Oh and that ugly ducky logo.
-
Not really, here are his arguments as far as I know.
(Ctrl + F: Ducky)

I just have a Ducky Shine in the mail, and I've tried my buddies, and thought it was great, but I guess this is the 9k series, not the 1k!

The sprue mark picture in my post above is from Ducky 9x series, limited edition some more.
BTW, I start feeling that I acting more and more Ducky hater...
-
Why do you care what Ripster thinks? Come to your own conclusions.
-
Being hating on Ducky for a long time. Their product design, ergonomic research and QC are nil...
The only good thing about Ducky is they are cheap...
-
^ agree

While I've not tried anything else, I can't say I'm disappointed with my Ducky? Build quality seems sound, no wobble, doesn't feel flimsy or anything.
Am hoping to get a filco soon so I can pass this keyboard onto my brother, and so will then be able to see if they are really that much better
-
Because filco pays the bills!
-
I've had a ducky and a filco for a couple of days now. In my extremely noobified and short term experience, the Filco seems clearly to be the superior keyboard. However, its not like the Ducky is bad especially considering any of the rubber dome boards I've been using. I guess its relative.

Can't really blame people outside Taiwan/China not liking ducky much. Their customer service is really good within the area of their reach, but nil services to speak of otherwise.
-
Well I've heard that the 1x series of Ducky's were pretty shoddy... But I've got a Shine and have to say the build quality is very good. I'm pretty OCD about these kinds of stuff but so far so good with the Shine. My Filco TKL is still my favourite board though... Something about Filco just feels a little more solid when typing. Maybe it has to do witht the Costar stabilisers?
-
Lol! I googled "ripster doesn't like ducky," and this thread came up. I was just curious to see what the big concern was with Ducky's but if it's about the 1k series, I can put my worries to rest... for now... My DK9008 has served me well for the past few months and the switches quack beautifully and feeels good man.
-
Well... if it helps.... im not a fan of ducky myself. Neither the 1xxx series nor the 9xxx series.
I have seen them both and tried them both.
The switches are still cherries and alps switches. So I won't judge via the switches... i believe ducky doesn't make those switches but just uses them and attaches them on their keyboard.
The cost of a ducky kinda fights a bit for itself as they are relatively cheaper than other boards but I still don't think they have matched the selling price with the quality of the ducky. Plastic felt cheap... there were rough edges and rough cuts. There were some units where the usb port hole to attach the cable is misaligned. Worse of all... the stabilizers on some of their spacebars are just plain horrible - specially the 1087xm. I have had 6 dollar rubber dome keyboards with a more stable space bar than that model.
That is just my personal opinion. But anyway... who cares about my opinion. The question was directed to ripster. :D
EDIT: Oh... and for the price i expected a braided cable. but no... doesn't have braided cable at least. But hey! If you wan't ducky get ducky! Why let other's opinions matter. We're just pointing out a way for you... its you're call if you take it.

ripster doesn't like leopold much either, and that doesn't stop people from getting leopold.
That should be enough said.
