The keyboard uses a USB A/B cable, the kind we all have laying around by the dozen... The keyboard will come shipped with one. The keyboard is in really good shape. I found it pretty dusty, but after a good key soak, and some cleaning, it looks really good.
For the USB interface, I used the following USB B cable-
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-1-Feet-Panel-Mount-Cable/dp/B002M8VBIS
For the USB converter, I used a chip out of a blue cube.
During the mod, I also had the opportunity to make the weight of the board 1/2" lb heavier with 56 pennies and wood glue :D, on to the pictures-

Bit of a threadjack here: That's pretty slick--I've been thinking of modding my Model M this way since I have to replace the cable anyway. Did you figure out how to do this by yourself, or did you find the info somewhere on the web (or here)?
-
I used a multimeter, this thread (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:6872), and this URL (http://zevv.nl/play/misc/ibm-usb/). I didn't like Ripster's method of screwing the USB B to the PCB, I liked the method of screwing the USB to the case.
[sarcasm]Now, given the intense difficulty level of this project... I would save yourself a keyboard and just buy mine.[/sarcasm]

If I had the cash I'd go for it, but I blew my spending cash this Christmas on my kids...Thanks for the links, man! Really appreciate it. :becky:
And someone buy this!
-
Thanks. :D
The buyer of the keyboard does get the flashy red LED blinky cable. It's actually a pretty cool contrast between the old-school IBM M, and new school flashy clear blinky USB cable.

BTT with picture of sticker added to original post.

Oh man tempted just because it's USB , just wish it was an ssk

Also I feel model m's already have some good weight to it but adding those pennies make it very interesting... Can they be removed if the used wanted to easily?
-
They could be. They're glued in with Wood glue, which is water based. They don't add a TON of weight, but they do add quite a bit. The keyboard does not move when you're using it.
Second row in has double stacked pennies. If we use the standard weight of a penny, 2.5 grams, overall there's probably an addition 5.5 oz added with the pennies and glue. So about 1/3 of a lb.

I gotta move this, lower price... $70+$14 S&H, Paypal only please. I will ship international at a higher shipping rate.

It took me 2 months to sell a REALLY NICE bolt-modded Model M blue label and eventually I had to drop the price to under $50 + shipping.
Within the next few weeks I will have 2 more for sale, but I have become convinced that the "modded" Model M market is deeply depressed.
I agree with you, all this stuff takes a lot of work, and to get less than $100 for something really nice that you have invested hours of love and care into seems depressing.

I don't mind waiting.
Although I'm also sure it's taking a while due to the fact that I have 0 feedback here on the board, and I am quite new.
Oh well, I don't mind waiting.
Here's my ebay feedback-

I want.
Ultimate irony? This is for my office/a studio at a radio station. Guess I can't type while on air :3.
How would you prefer payment?
-
PayPal preferred.
-
what are the pennies for?
Cheap weight.
-
for... do they have a purpose I mean besides weight?
-
Nope. Weight is purpose.
