Title: White Noppoo Choc Mini arrived....
Post by: Hitch22 on Thu, 29 December 2011, 11:31:55
Here's the White Noppoo choc mini w MX blues I bought for my brother's Christmas present. It arrived a bit late for Christmas but it did have to come all the way from China. I bought it from ebay user qtan5370. http://myworld.ebay.com/qtan5370/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

Looks like they just released the white noppoo with reds to go along with the blacks, browns, and blues.

I've been comparing it to my older choc mini with reds and it is significantly heavier....is this just due to the type of switch, or have they upped the build quality?

Cheers!

Got a scale?  Ripsters Quality~Fg Theorem (RipQFT) (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?22069-Ripster-s-Weight-Theorem-Build-Quality-is-Directly-Correlated-To-Weight-of-Keyboard).

I just had a look around the house and I don't have any suitable scales. :(
Just for you Ripster, I will take it round a friend's house and weigh it there. ;)  Although, I don't know when that will be due to the holidays etc...
I would estimate it's about 30% - 50% heavier than my old choc mini.

Use it the ancient way - lever. The moment on left is equal to moment on right.

I love mine. The keys are so thick and sexy. Why doesn't Noppoo sell keys again?

Well, it is 240 G (approximate 0.5 proud) heavier than Black one.

I do the shipping :)

Newb here with the question that must be asked:

So, which keycaps do you prefer, the POMs on the old black one or the PBTs on the white new one?

I think the answer is kinda obvious.

They are the same, yes. But the white is 0.5 pounds heavier

I'm going to have to go with the white PBTs

I hear the POM's feel nice but a lot of people with the black choc mini's complained about the lettering wearing off fast.

White are the PBT choc mini keys; The red is a PBT topre esc key and the black is the stock Filco ABS key.

That choc mini key is THICK. Hence the extra half pound vs. the black with POMs?

Nah, the black POM keys have the same thickness.
They probably changed the mounting plate from aluminium to steel, hence the extra weight.

does it mean the new black choc mini boards should weigh the same as the white ones ?

The black one has a black backplate, probably made of aluminium.
The white one has a silver backplate, probably made of steel.

I think that someone should crack open both boards and take pics. No use in guessing.

I'm 100% sure. CeeSA already posted a video, and it has the exact same parts except the steel backplate.
Qtan already confirmed the weight difference, so it must be the plate, since steel is a lot heavier than aluminium.

This is no longer the case. Noppoo fixed this issue some time ago. I've been a heavy user of the choc mini for nearly 6 months and there is no letter wearing what so ever. A bit of shine on the keycaps tho.

Geekhack n00b here... I just recently purchased a white noppoo choc mini with browns from qtan.  Glad to see someone else shares the same love for this keyboard as I do!

Oh looks wicked. I almost bought one to carry in my backpack but I went with a PLU instead (I like having my arrow keys separate from the main key cluster). It's still in the mail tho. Possible wrong decision for me.

BTW I'd post the key weight in the Key Reference wiki but then you'd guys have to find it AND use Math.

My brain ALREADY hurts.

Title: Bought one from qtan
Post by: poxeclipse on Mon, 09 January 2012, 09:42:50
just a few days ago, waiting for it in Toronto. I'm using Cherry G84-4100 now, which seems to be thinner than Noppoo Choc, by a few mm's.
My question is: what impact does it have ?  I don't want to start using a wristrest.
Any comments are welcome.
