I am so upset by this so-called "artist" Sarah Frost, I don't even know how to express it in words. She has been amassing thousands, possibly millions, of Cherry double-shot keycaps using govt. grant money, and then destroying them, in the name of her so-called "art". Why? Who knows. But what she does should be a crime. Ever wonder why it's so hard to find vintage cherry double-shot keycaps and/or dysubs? Because Sarah Frost took them all. She's been collecting keycaps for years from financial firms, businesses, etc. Her "art" is on display at this gallery in NYC:

I caution anybody with low impulse control to avoid seeing this nonsense, b/c I'm afraid you might deface it.
Check out the abomination she created called "Debris, Qwerty": http://www.sarahfrost.info/?page_id=231. There is another one called Black Qwerty in St. Louis I think. Horrible.
Btw, I am not against public funding of the arts, but this woman must be stopped.
If you look closely you can see she has used almost exclusively vintage cherry double-shot keycaps, along with some dyesub RGB modifiers and other colored keys: http://www.sarahfrost.info/.
Why would somebody do this? This isn't art, it's a sacrilege. Am I over-reacting? Or is this woman a disgrace?

i've been working on collecting and modifying images of her artwork as backgrounds/wallpapers... not quite ready yet. i saw her work posted about 2 weeks ago somewhere else.
I didn't know her name, but this was posted on GH a while ago (with better closeups) I'm sure some alps, and IBM keys are in there.

Hey, at least it's keycaps! It could be all chicklets. This art might get people thinking, and manufacturing, more good keycaps, and fewer crappy ones. Anything that does that is good, in my book. :-)

the fact that we're talking about it means it's successful, regardless of how we feel about it.
i've seen shots with some guy taking framed pictures of these installations...
Even the word 'installation' makes my blood boil. Stupid artists can't even work out what to call their own creations, so have to lump them together under the generic word 'installation' ... because they end up being installed somewhere. :rant:
We should stop calling them artists. Call them installers.

I think the art would be more meaningful if she just stapled a bunch of whole keyboards to a wall. Maybe one of the collectors here can do that, I know some have a lot.

If she had any talent as an artist she would use PAINT to make art, not keycaps. I should go down to that crappy art gallery and take some pics up close of her "art", so you can see that she uses like 90% double shots or dyesub cherry keycaps. (Well at least she knows good keycaps.) Too bad she wastes them on her ridiculous art projects. No wait, these aren't art projects, they just assemblages of junk. And junk assemblages have been done before and done much better. Check out Albert Schwitters and his "Merzbau" and the Dada movement. That was ground-breaking, and that was done 80 years ago. So little Sarah Frost is at best a re-tread of old ideas, a copy cat, and an unoriginal hack. And at worst she's just a fraud. Which is fine, I don't care if she scams the govt. for her art money (compared to the Wall Street bailout, her art grants are like pennies, or actually more like 1/1000 of a penny), and I don't care if she scams the art "lovers" who buy her crap. What I don't like is that she is wasting valuable keycaps. I don't want to see a single keycap wasted. I'm the Lorax of keycaps.

I don't mind that she used perfectly good keycaps. What bothers me is that I'm not seeing the artistry of what she did with them. It's kind of just a spackle of assorted caps, if you ask me.
Maybe I just don't get it.

It was a hard lesson in the limitations of text. I couldn't look at ripster when I said it, and you couldn't hear the humorous tone in my voice. I am much more careful now.
