hello all,
first let me start by saying that i currently own a logitech G19 and before that an original G15, now whilst i love these keyboards i simply do not use the screen or the macro keys or any of that.
So, i have decided to move to a keyboard that does basically what i want and that is going to be durable and have a good lifetime.
basically what is will be using it for is gaming (pretty much any genre) and also basic typing for university and other such things.
now, after doing a bit of research i seem to be stuck between two keyboards.
the first is a filco multicam (i like the braided cable) with a either cherry browns or blues i really don't mind
cost: $165
or
the second is a Topre Realforce 104U
cost: $219
yes i know there is a price difference but at the moment it is only $55 due to the topre being on sale
thank you for any help

Although I've not tried one personally, the impression I get from these forums that Topre boards are considered creme de la-creme of the keyboarding world.
Based on that, I would be inclined to go for the Topre one. If things don't work out, I'm sure it will retain it's resale value especially after the sales have passed...

I would roll with the Filco. Topre makes a great keyboard, and the switches are very smooth, but Cherrys are springier and more crisp for that authentic, mechanical feel.

Many mech keyboard users enjoy minalism: the otaku and ninja boards are a good example of that. Plain, logo-free, legend-free, subtle LEDs hidden in the keys themselves, etc. Mech keyboard users just love that kind of stuff, so it's very odd to move from gaming keyboards to that.
But the Topres? They don't like minimalism at all. Legends and logos galore! What Topres like is ugliness. They are masters of hideous, hideous keyboards. People will relentlessly mock you for paying $250 for such a sad-looking creature.
So if you have self-esteem issues, get the Filco! :D

yes, it will be a change from gaming keyboards and sure backlit keys are nice, however, i am in the process of teaching myself to touch type and once i am competent enough i do intend to get blank keycaps of some sort.
TBH just looking at the pictures on this forum i am blown away at how customisable the looks are for the boards and that it will be something of a sense of pride to have an individualized keyboard rather than something widely available that anyone can just go an pick up off the shelf.
it seems to me that the filco will be the way to go and right now i am considering the filco for home use and potentially a leopold tenkeyless for when i go to lans, that is, if the leopolds are any good
still, thank you to everyone for their help so far

http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=pfu_keyboards,hhkbpro2&pid=pdkb400bn is the closest Topres have ever come to looking pretty. That logo is still pretty awful, though :P

still, if i get this
http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/info/KE-FKBN104MC-EMU2/1838/
is there anywhere that sells olive green/grey/biege/brown keycaps?
the black looks a tad out of place, although i guess yellow would work
