Title: TIL: My model M has PBT keycaps
Post by: Surly73 on Mon, 16 January 2012, 11:19:35
OK, so it's not a stunning revelation.  I always knew they felt different (as in GREAT) and wear really, really well.  I've had a Realforce and really appreciated the feel of the PBT caps.

I should have known, but never looked it up, and now I know.  Another reason the model M is so great...

A question, since PBT/dyesubbed keycaps seem to be quite expensive, how is Unicomp able to offer their keyboards so cheap with such keycaps?

It's also supply X demand. We really do enjoy our nice colored pieces of plastic.

It is just that old Cherry dye sub keycaps are hard to find, and Topre wants an arm and a leg for its dye sub keys.  imsto can now make dye sub keys in China, although the fonts are kind of bad IMO.  Hopefully his the prices for his dye sub keycaps will come down.  Used IBM Model M and Unicomp keyboards are very good bangs for the buck.
