Title: First Time Mechanical Keyboard Buyer Advice Needed
Post by: SerenadedAbyss on Thu, 26 January 2012, 01:46:45
First off hello. As you can tell my name is "SerenadedAbyss" and I am interested in getting a mechanical keyboard.

I have been researching this type of keyboard for months... and now I really want to invest in one, but this is driving me crazy. I have narrowed down my choices to the Rosewill either brown or blue, Leopold via Elite Keyboards either brown or blue, or a keyboard from WASD (again either brown or blue). The only thing that I'm really worried about is that I have a family member who is a light sleeper. So since I'm online a lot of the time at night and in an area where sound travels from one end of the house to the other quite easily. I'm worried about waking them up from my typing or gaming on a blue switch keyboard. But I love that clicky sound and the tactile feel.

So I considered the brown switches since they aren't quite as loud but have tactile feel. But I noticed that the Leopold brown is a little more expensive but I digress. I tried my friends DAS Keyboard with the blue switch and instantly fell in love with it (My mum did as well and she liked his blank keycaps as well), but not quite so much with the price or the glossy finish. I'm tempted to get a red or black switch so I'm not incredibly sure so any suggestions?

For the glossy finish, you can put on a sticky wrappings that change the glossy feel to a rough feel. My friend did that to a BWU and now he doesn't have to care about the dirt again.

Im also new to geekhack and i remember getting my first board, which is my current Meka g1 in the past year i have gotten one of each type except reds and clears. I use my meka g1 for gaming it's great, it's not loud keys are not hard to press if you have large hands like i do, I use a Cm Storm Rapid Fire for School great keyboard on a  budget with chrry mx blues, Solid build quality, But when it come to browns i got myself a Filco MJ Brown and i absolutely love it, it was a gift to me from my brother and i consider it my Work/ night keyboard because i use it to game in Rts at night due to it being quiet.
as for Das, they're keyboards my buddy has the brown version and i really like it, though i prefer my filco. So do some research, and honestly you cant go wrong with browns if you're looking for a good gaming and typing experience.

I decided on the Rosewill RK9000BR simply because it had more pros then cons honestly (If the logo is as bad as it seems I'll live with it). Also when I ordered it I got some promotion deals which negated the cost of shipping and I got nearly $6 off. I'm excited. I should get it at least by next week. I'm so excited!
