http://www.globaltekoutlet.com/TG3-Electronics-BL82-Series-Backlit-Keyboard-p/bl82.htm
-Black switches
-PS/2
-LED's can be powered by just plugging in to the mobo, no need for cable moding and connecting to the PSU with molex
-Price $58 included shipping ( FYI some vendors sells this puppy for $200-$250 new)
I was back and forth talking to the seller asking for the full codes from the keyboard and called TG3 to verify if this model uses 12V LED which will make you mod the cable in order to turn the led's on, but all is good this one uses 5V led's even though its a cops keyboard, the seller told me they are black switches, not the clear ones.
-
Nice find on a very cool backlit keyboard. It's a shame black switches are so horrible for almost everything :( And I believe the TG3 BL82 is plate mounted, so it makes getting to those switches impossible
-
Wow! Good find. I like typing on the MX blacks. They're good for ANGRY TYPING. Maybe that's why they put them into a cop keyboard.

haha, if that were the case, the capslock would be always auto-on
-
well i ordered one for my self + some goodies from Amazon (blue cube adapter, Usb extension, and leathertte wrist rest for keyboard and one more for mice both made by 3M.
-
Got one too :)

Got one too :)
good move bro, especially when I searched some vendors on a price for this one brand new... almost got an hearth attack.....
-
in for one, nice find; this will be my LED experiment board.
-
Bought one :) These are pcb mounted right?
-
removed
-
i bought 3 usb ones on ebay on accident. $45 shipped if anyone is interested send PM.
PM sent (when I was about 10 seconds away from clicking "buy" on the Globaltekoutlet site)
-
Thanks, just bought one.

do these have a flat profile?

When someone gets one please give your opinion on it please!

Have you seen HalfSaints? :)

I have one of these. I don't dig black switches, but I love the double shot keycaps. This board also has a rubber splatter guard under the caps, feels a little better when that's removed.

Are you sure these are doubleshot, friend? I thought they were coated.

For sure not double shots. They have to be translucent for light to show through.

Sorry bro but your wrong they are doubleshots that will never wear off same as DECK's keyboards. Only difference between this one and the Decks, this one is more heavy duty in construction due to it was made for industrial use such as cops cars, factories, hospitals, shops etc etc etc.
EDIT: BTW they are double shots PBT!!!! not the typical ABS double shots.....

I am sure that can't be right. The coefficient of shrinkage is too much, for almost any legend, the internal stresses would exceed the (low) fracture toughness and crack it long before cooling finished.
I went and looked it up: deck/TG3 uses a multi step process. I searched the wiki for "deck"
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=All+About+Keys
Backlit keys on so called "Gaming Keyboards" are generally translucent plastic, then coated, and finally lasered similar to some cell phone keys. Decks use a variety of steps to build their keys. Black key with translucent glued insert with dye sublimation printing.
There's even a picture of the "insert" cut out of it
http://geekhack.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=20154&d=1310047405
This means that it's not "doubleshot" in the traditional sense, and that you WILL wear though the legend with use.
Although it does look like the top is maybe sublimated PBT, which is nice. It'll take a good long while to wear that out.

Ok but the keycap is made out of 2 pieces isnt thats why they are called double shots, 1 piece the exterior cap and 1 piece the interior cap + the the clear inside piece is dyesublimated so that we can see the actual legend, right?
I'm no expert or whatsoever but this does look to me like dyesublimation+doubleshot+outershellkeycap PBT? I think its pure genious, just my 0.2 cents.
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:13276
EDIT: TG3/Deck guarantees that keycap legends will "NEVER" wear off,no matter what.

They shipped my order out yesterday. Should be getting it by next Thursday. Excited to try mx blacks :)

They keys are a combo of double shot and dye sublimation

If you ask me thats an amazing process, no ther company does this for their iluminated boards, not even 1 brand.

Now just because of the keys I want to try the keyboard now

Thanks I was looking for. Ordered

You better be ready to live with flat profile keys.
-
You better be ready to live with flat profile keys.
It's easier to arrange to Dvorak, which is a huge bonus.
-
You better be ready to live with flat profile keys.
They also have the same profile as SP function row keys, so you can replace any of the 1x keys with novelty key caps and not have odd profile differences.
-
Does this have nkro?
-
I believe these are 2KRO.
-
For all USB Deck products there is a limit of 6 keys + modifier keys (shifts and alts) that can be pressed at any given time and still registered by your computer. This is limited by the USB specification. All Deck Legend PS2 products have full n-key rollover meaning you can press as many keys at the same time as you want and they should all register to your computer without "ghosting" as some call it.
Hmm deck keyboards are 6key rollover, just wonder if this was since it was made by the same parent company.

Easiest way to tell would be to read a review (or look at pictures) and check for diodes.
-
received it today, feels like a solid board and leds are pretty nice, although the rubber membrane that should play as a liquid protection spillage ask lil bit more force from the black switches and the very light tactile feel that we get from black switches is almost non existents cause of the protective guard. Offcourse its an easy fix to peeps dont like this just remove keys unscrew the screws, open the board and remove the membrane
-
Would it be possible to replace the LEDS with these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/component-leds/aqua-3mm-led-18-degree-viewing-angle-4000-mcd/308/ ???

Errr black switches definately do not have a "light tactile feel"
They are the "heaviest" of the cherry switches and are linear..
Bought one of the ones yjhuoh was selling, pretty excited to receive it.

They don't put diodes on their non-gaming boards.

FYI, that guard nearly doubles the activation force.

Not if you want to run them all at their max-rated 100mW. With proper resistors, you should be able to do it a bit dimmer, though.
See, if the board "had" red LED's on it, and you put in those aqua ones, the forward voltage drop is very different, so you may have to adjust the resistance of the current limiting resistors, and also keep it low power enough so that your USB or PS2 port can power it. Those aqua ones are 3.6V!
-

The stock Led's are rated at 5V and the ones you have in the link require less Volts, so I guess it shouldnt be a problem. Although best would be to call up TG3 and give them all the specs from the Led's and they will tell you for sure if its ok.
BTW why would you go with different LED's? the TG3 leds are superb in brightness and they have plenty of levels of brightness, the highest level of brightness is really bright, and the one thing TG3 LED's have that money cant beat is that they are rated for 20 YEARS !!!! of constant use!!!! if color is not what you want I'm sure Tg3 sells leds in different colors rated same as the red ones or they can tell you where you can buy them elsewhere if you dont want to go trought them.
-
I dont like red, and this is my experiment board since its the cheapest backlit mechanical keyboard that can be bought also most LEDs have a shelf life that long.

cheapest brand new from this seller only.... look it up around and you will see that they sell this board for 200-250.... good for you you grabbed one.
-
That is the retail price, but Ive seen that board sell many times for <100, I missed my chances to snag one from other members when they sold theirs for 30-40.
-
I want to put slow changing RGB LEDs in one of these. I think these clear cases (http://www.deckkeyboards.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=31) would fit it, too.

I think I will order my self clear case since there is no transfluecent red case available at Deck online store.... Also will remove the rubber gurad so that black switches will feel more natural.

I would get one too but shipping costs as much as the case itself. Too expensive... :(
-
Shipping is 13.....should make a groupbuy for that..
-
Just bought the clear case, sigh $13 shipping...
TG3 gets in tomorrow, case comes in before Friday. Anticipating a good week.
-
I'm new to this forum, anyone with experience that want to start group buy on the clear cases from Deck?
-
Mine just came in the mail. Man these are some high quality keyboards for $50...
-
Mines is coming today also. :D
-
lol the splash guard is like...literally a thin sheet of plastic, almost like saran wrap, that they just squeezed the keycaps on top of. It's held on the sides by hooking it onto one of the pointy solder points on the back of the PCB....
Got rid of that crap right away, and tossed it into the garbage :)
-
if the feel isn't bad I might keep the splash guard... you never know when your drink could spill...
-
half-saint did.
http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:14034
That looks really cool.
I wonder why shipping from Deck is so expensive. UPS is aggravating in general. Whenever I order anything 3-day shipping to the east coast, it seems like it gets trapped in Hodgkins, IL for 2 days.
-
Hmm, the splash guard isn't all that bad. It is like a landing pad or o-ring. I think I will just keep it. It only gets "stiff" at the start of the activation. I guess it makes the blacks feel a lot like rubber domes with out any tactile feeling. The back lighting is very awesome. :X.
Concerning NKRO, can handle 6 but fails some combos. I tested this on aqua key test. AMAZING DEAL! This is making it very tempting to get another one now...

Deck doesn't ship to Canada, which kind of sucks...
-
They don't ship to Canada? Got mine today and I'm in Germany. Hate it though. Should probably resell.
And what's up with that plastic foil under the caps?
-
Is this board worth the $60 it costs? Anyone doesn't like and selling theirs?
-
that board is worth more than $60.... deck sells their 82 for 150+
-
I found out that the seller for this board was in my neck of the woods, so I went and picked one up after work that I'd ordered from their outlet website. It's remarkably stiff to type on, and the keyboard has no feet. The spacebar is very steep as well, but overall I'm kinda digging it. Definitely not plug-and-play; had to reboot when I plugged it in, and I definitely need to flip the spacebar, since it's like mountain climbing when all the other keys are so low-profile. I may do a review of this once I get some typing time in, but I'm so used to reds that this thing really is straining my fingers, and I was on buckling springs before reds.
As other people have said, the spillguard is a joke and gums up the switches. Had to remove the casing, which is textured plastic mixed with metal plates to hold the screws inside, and a solid aluminum (I think) backplate with 8 screw points. This thing is very solidly built despite the wobbly feel you get with it resting on the rear plate screws without a mat. Between the PCB and backplate screws, there are 15 in total holding the thing together, which is really sturdy for such a tiny board.
Overall, this looks to be a great trainer for a KBC Pure or whatever the new one is with blues or browns. I now have reds and blacks in my collection, and am eager to try a CM Storm to see how blues feel, but may wait if the KBCs are available.
No stabilizers on the spacebar, but it doesn't need them: there are two points on the side where the spacebar attaches, along with the middle one over the actual gray-colored switch. It is hideously vertical, though, which I intend to fix now.
Edit: Flipping the spacebar makes the board about 10 billion times more comfortable to type on; it's now a gentle slope instead of Everest, and requires much less force to actuate. You don't need to **** around with any paperclip-frail wire thing or reposition the sockets on either side like I've heard described with the Filcos; just lever up one side, pull it up and away from the board, then lever up the other, flip, and voila! The right shift is a little tough to get used to, being half-width, but I'm sure I'll grow to expect the repositioned keys.
I may post a full review that's basically this post with some terrible cameraphone shots if need be.
-
Thanks for your quick impression! I've been debating on picking up this board, and I don't think I will based on your comment about too straining. I currently type on Topre, Browns, and Blues - and was afraid black would be too much for me (dying to try reds though!).
-
Purchased one. Hope to enjoy it and will probably mod it.
-
Don't expect to do any gaming on this series; these have controller issues that cause rollover combinations beyond 2 not to work in certain circumstances according to ripster/the NKRO wiki.
Consider these essentially 2KRO keyboards, and try to get used to having them sit on either a mat or your lap for typing.
-
I read the reviews about that (potential rollover issues). I still want the KB. I'm curious how failing the W-A-S combo could be problematic for FPS. It seems that a person going forward (W) doesn't usually go backward (S) at the same time. Does this impact another gaming genre other than FPS more negatively or am I missing something about this being no big problem for FPS games? Anywho... I use EDSF, not WASD. ESDF is the CORRECT FPS layout. :boink:
-
does not cause whatsoever problem for fps gsming
-
That was my suspicion. Thanks !
-
Shipping costs to Germany are insane.
-
Yeah to AUS its $138.00 for the board with shipping, and that's using the cheapest option. My 2 x 6970s shipping was less, somewhere in the $40.00 range for both from Amazon.com
-
Might be better to find someone else to buy some and then mail them out to you with a cheaper service. If I remember right USPS is the cheapest for international.
EDIT* If enough international people wanted, 6 of these only cost ~$38 to ship to my place. And it looks like some USPS options are pretty cheap... First Class was ~$24 to Germany, although might take a while to get there. Priority was ~$40
-
There are actually two different splash guards possible on the BL82. One is thick silicone and other is thin and flexible--similar to saran wrap. The former changes the characteristics of the keyboard such that you need almost twice as much force to actuate, and the latter was not measurably significant in actuation force. YMMV.

Do you want me to take a picture? It feels ****ty but that may just as well be the new MX blacks...
-
Photo not required. The silicone one is translucent milky white and the saran wrap one is transparent (except for the mold/fold lines).
-
Okay, it's transparent....
-
I broke down and ordered the deck transparent case. Ouchy $13 shipping. Are they putting it in a safe before shipping it? :drum:
-

Copied and sold by EK in 3...2...

24$ how? The cheapest way I See on their Website is 58$!
-
First class mail international isn't that expensive. I just calculated that a 4-lb package 13*5*8 inches is like $30. I imagine whatever Blazestorm had in mind is a little smaller and lighter.
-
If someone did decide to start a group buy I'd also be very interested :P
Deck doesn't ship to Canada, which kind of sucks...
Deck may not ship to Canada but the site that lists this deal Globaltekoutlet does!
I have been debating ordering one for awhile now. Shipping was just $15 vis USPS to Canada for awhile there. Just checked again and the shipping price to Canada has Doubled to $36 for USPS Priority. Guess its not worth it for just 1 KB.
You can now add 3 KB for get them shipped to Canada for $32.95 Global Priority Flat Rate Box Med adding 1 more KB jumps the shipping cost to a whopping $76!
You can choose UPS too, but UPS is bad for us CDNs!
-
I see...
Thanks for the info.

Yea, I was guesstimatin. I'm just saying that you could make it more affordable if you don't deal with a company. They usually don't have shipping quotes that favor the customer. (Unless they're big like Newegg/Amazon with free shipping).
-
Would anyone purchase it for me and send it to the Netherlands?
-
Hm, just bought a board I don't need in switches I don't like.
Damn you good deals!!!!
-
If anybody ends up shipping more clear cases to Europe I would be interested in one....
-
I would be glad to help. How would you want to handle the details?
-
same here...I d like to purchase one too, but euro shipment is kinda expensive!
-
I called them up, $50 is the cheapest they'll go (In-case anyone was curious).
But like I said, if enough people were interested in a small group-buy (10-15) to help save some people money. Could do Deck parts too, shipping seems to cap out at about $20 for me, even with 15 cases.
Although it might make even more sense for someone closer to them if shipping is cheaper. 15 boards is ~$70 in shipping to me, or about $55 per board before re-shipping it again. Cases would be $17ish before re-shipping.
EDIT* Appears Fedex shipping is actually $55 on 15 boards, so a bit cheaper...
EDIT2* Also called up Deck, first couple people mentioned group buys. Official e-mail after they talked to someone said no discounts on the casing.
So if anyone is interested in Deck 82 Clear case (that seems to be the only one people want) and the TG3 BL82 for local/international shipping send me a PM so I can gather interest.
-
Thats a nice move @ Blazestorm
+10 Social points
PS: So who would be in such a mini group buy for the clear case and tg3 board? Interest from Germany here!
-
Aye, me too. Need to CeeSa-mini-mod mine. :p
-
I'm just wondering if this website is legit.
-
Well people have gotten theirs and mine is on its way, so I'd say they are legit.
-
Do these come in clears? We just got these new printers installed in our school and every time we want to print we have to send the documnet to the printer and then go log in at the printer itself to print. Anyways they have tiny keyboards like this TG3 and they diffidently feel mechanical..heavy with bumps so im thinking theyre clears. I'll sneak my key puller to class on day and check. They look very very simple in size and layout, but definitely not blacks.
-
nope, blacks only.
well, not 100% sure. i know this and the deck version are black only
-

They made some with clears, which showed up on ebay once, but I believe they've sold out since.
-
I believe the ones with clears have four dots on the spacebar instead of two.
-
Got mine today and installed the clear case. I removed the liquid protection garbage and tossed that crap. I like it so far.

Excuse the cell phone pics and poor photography skills.
-
switched LEDs and made it into ghetto reds
-
I believe the ones with clears have four dots on the spacebar instead of two.
looks awesome with the clear case, I think I will order the clear case, but also I want to call TG3 and ask them if they have USB non curly cable for this board.
Any converted it from PS/2 to USB via cable not via adapter?
-
Would love to get the solid black case, and then a set of those keycaps..... the wonky font on my Deck 82 has WAY outlived its novelty.
-
To everybody in this thread requesting buys/shipment:
I work an hour or so from where these are shipped. This means that if you arrange shipping through me, you don't need to wait for X amount of days for it to be delivered to somebody else before it's shipped to you, nor do you need to pay a second shipping cost (though of course you can tip me if you want; I'm not that ashamed).
I've bought one of these myself (as detailed earlier in the thread), and am actually using it to type up this post; I can definitely recommend this as a hard-typist's keyboard - with a little work (see endnote). It's also a good way to get used to a reduced-size keyboard so you can more easily get started on a KBT or KBC, should you decide to go that route.
Please don't hesitate to PM me if you'd like me to arrange international shipment, or if you'd like to coordinate a larger buy that might involve cost savings on shipping in general. This would make a lot more sense than a dozen different orders going through a dozen different people's methodologies. I have a UPS pickup in-office I can utilize, and am within walking distance of USPS and FedEx; if you'd prefer another courier, just let me know.
If I get enough interest in this unit, I may organize a group buy, but it's best not to put the cart before the horse. Feel free to let me know.
Note: You definitely need to remove the splash guard to get rid of the initially mushy keyfeel, which involves popping all of the keycaps off (I took the housing apart too to make this easier; it involves around 15 Philips head screws, and is easy to reassemble). After the plastic film isn't gumming up the works anymore, it's nice and solid to type on while not being too deep.

Pm'd you @ Typhaeon
-
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?28252-Interest-Check-TG3-BL82-(International-Redirect)-Deck82-Casings
Started this if anyone is interested. I realize Typhaeon offered up too, maybe he wants to take over the BL82's and I could do the Deck casings.
I have no preference really, I just don't feel like spending $30.00 on shipping for $65.00 worth of parts.
-
does this board not turn off?
i dont want to be turning down the lights every time i turn my pc off -.-
-
demik: did you do a switch swap? aren't these board mounted?
-
plate mounted, and nope not yet.
not going to do it myself, seeing if somebody can for me. im no good on soldering.
-
oops, i meant to say "aren't these plate mounted?"
if we can get these cheap enough, i'd be interested in stripping one down to switch and led mod, but i dunno, since i'd also want to do some kind of remapping job on the terrible terrible layout. if i did do this, i could probably mod a few of them for those who are interested.
can someone (typh?) see if globaltek will give us any volume discounts?
-
this light thing is really bothering me.
also needs something to grip it to the desk, thing is sliding around everywhere

I already called them, said no-go on volume discounts. Even offered to buy out their stock.

well that's a load of poop
-
Did you have to remove all the keys to get the liquid protection layer off? Or just unscrew the bottom?
-
u have to remove keys , membrane lays on top of switches
-
Nice find on a very cool backlit keyboard. It's a shame black switches are so horrible for almost everything :( And I believe the TG3 BL82 is plate mounted, so it makes getting to those switches impossible
Has anyone been able to convert one of these boards to USB?
-
Unless the board internally supports USB somehow, the only way I see this happening is if you took apart something like the blue-cube adapter and soldered it internally, adding a new USB connection inside. Kinda like the USB Model M mods.
It wouldn't be that hard but still a bit of work.
-

Thanks. Now to find something to put underneath it so it doesn't slide or scratch my desk. So far I'm liking it for gaming.

I got some of these adhesive rubber feet for mine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130656966916. I can't attest to their longevity since they're new to me. They also seem to be working on a spare piece of marble I use as a coaster.
