Title: Need help finding a mechanical keyboard!
Post by: deltz on Fri, 27 January 2012, 15:14:39
My previous keyboard was the Razer Blackwidow, spilt coke over it and it died!!
I want:
.Full size keyboard if possible
.UK Layout
.Not blue switches(I want something that needs less force needed to apply to keys because of wrist pain, I dont mind the clicky sound)
.Used mainly for typing not so much gaming
.Budget of £150
.Would love to get colored keys for the WASD buttons

Any help will be great, any UK websites where I can buy mechanical keyboards?
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions, the WASD site has got me drooling!!
Is there any other keyboards apart from the FILCO that you might recommend?

Filco, coolermaster storm, wasd, and a few others people will probably quote you, all come out of the same  factory so take your pick!

Not really for UK layout.

Just remembered a big reason why I hate my Uni's keyboards... All UK layout. Why is quotation marks shift+2 and not above the apostrophe. It makes no sense. Why is backslash in the weirdest place? WHY?

Back on topic.

Filco's a good board = ).

WASD is customizable = D

It you are having wrist troubles, you may want to consider looking at ergonomic boards such as the Kinesis.

Thanks for all the inputs, I think filco might be the one but not so sure on the Kinesis.
Will the custom keys from wasdkeyboards.com work on the filco keyboard.
How much easier is the brown switches to press than blue ones, is red switches another option?

brown switches have the same weight of spring as the reds, 45g compared to the 55 of the blues, so id say the browns are your best bet :)

Browns are 10g lighter and designed specifically for typing, so Filco brown or WASD brown are the best bet for you.

Blues use that spring as well. The difference in force between reds, browns, and blues just comes from the tactile point near actuation. Reds are fine for typing if you don't care about feeling the exact point when the key is registered, and are noticeably lighter than browns to type on.

I completely agree, it really doesn't make any logical sense. Mind you if you aren't a science person the positioning of += is of little value and why on earth do keyboards lack degree symbols meh guess someone hated geometry and took it out on the layout of the keyboard ^^.

On topic for UK layout theres also Das but I reckon you really can't go wrong with a filco or wasd..
