Title: Brown filco switch sometimes registering twice
Post by: Aardwolf on Tue, 14 February 2012, 19:44:09
Hello,

When typing long texts on a keyboard with brown filco switches and N-key rollover of a bit more than a year old, the 'e' key sometimes registers twice.

It only started doing this recently. It happens around 1% of the time, so that means when typing several sentences, it will happen a few times.

Only the e does this, no others.

For some reason, it most often happens while typing words, when pressing the 'e' key itself many times in a row, it registers once each time.

Any idea what could be wrong and if there's a way to fix this?

Could the switch itself be faulty, or the wiring in the keyboard?

Thanks!

Due to lack of compressed air (Is that something that is available in cans in all US shops or something? Here it involves an expensive machine instead, AFAIK at least) I blew in it. I'll see tomorrow if that fixed it, time to sleep now. Thanks so far!

Canned air is readily available in any office supply shop and most places that carry computer peripherals as well.  It's over-priced, but it does work for short bursts.

Or if it is a new board, have them replace it under warranty?

Not in everywhere. Depending on where you  are from.

One of the options mentioned in the linked thread, is to use Deoxit.

Are there equivalents to Deoxit that could also work? Does there exist a generic name of what type of product that is rather than a brand name?

Something that could be found in a typical tools shop in Europe?

Thanks!
