I've got extra RO-59 KT with small group buy the other days. If you have interest this lubricant, try this trade!
Please post here instead of private message.
I'm thinking cheaper air mail shipping is suitable for this trade. No tracking is needed for this trivial things.
I basically don't want to use Paypal or other money transfer due to make this trade simple.
ME:
I'd offer a 4ml bottle RO-59 KT per a key cap but open to negotiation.
I have extra RO-59 KT(about 50ml), so I can offer 10 small bottles.

EDIT: 3 went for BiNiaRiS, 3 for limmy.
EDIT: 1 for WhiteFireDragon, 1 for ripster.
EDIT: ran out of small bottles now(2011/02/21)
YOU:
What I want in fact is some key caps for Model M and Realforce, but something cool from your junk box will be also welcome.
Model M: [strike]US backslash[/strike], [strike]Alt(2)[/strike], Control, non-stepped Caps(Control) and UK backslash
Realforce: right arrow

Just so we know what to offer for a fair trade, what value do you put on these bottles?
-
I am interested in the lubricant, but I don't have much to offer..
I have some PBT caps from SP, some are colored with nub.( see pictures here: http://www.kbdmania.net/xe/2857345 )
I am interested in trying Krytox 100, maybe I could trade them once I get them. I never used it, but some people in OTD seem to like them(the one they got is thicker than 100 though). They are $25 per 15ml, so we could exchange at a fair rate.
-
I think it worth about 1USD or less.
To get 260ml bottle of RO-59 in Japan it costs about 4000JPY including shipping.
-
I've got a US backslash and should have a few Alt keys for you. I'd love to get some of this to try it out.
-
Not sure what I can trade, lol can I just buy some instead?
EDIT: ok if I really can't just buy it, I can trade you a key puller, or a sample pack (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?25714-O-Rings-of-various-thickness-and-softness-Group-Buy) of O-rings?

I prefer exotic lub!
I've not know about Krytox 100 until you referred it, but it is very tempting for me.
I need small drop of Krytox just enough to apply one keyboard. How many RO-59 bottles deserves that?
And I can ship RO-59 first before you get Krytox if you want.

Thanks for great offer.
I want your US backslash and two Alt keys and you get three bottles.
Deal?
FYI: I believe a 4ml bottle is enough to apply a full keyboard and I can do two or three boards in my usual way.

Great. I hear Krytox 100's viscosity is very low and tend to evaporate quickly to be used in races. I wonder if it leaves some coating after it evaporates, but I have no information on it. I am going to try it anyways and if it wears out too quickly probably mix it with other thicker lubricants or grease.
How about 12ml of RO-59 for 3ml of Krytox 100? Since I don't have little bottles, it would be great if you send me your bottle with 3ml mark. Please let me know what you think.

O rings is Interesting.
I need to read through your thread. please wait.

Good luck with your trade! Haha you kept yourself the one with the yellow lid. I wonder who got the one with the green lid?
The Krytox 100 has an identical static friction coefficient to the RO-59, but it evaporates, in other words it is not durable in your switches. I would rather recommend the higher viscousity Krytox GPL-106.
Edit: Hasu is an amazing guy to deal with!
-
WhiteFireDragon,
Nice, I'd take your sample pack for one bottle. Deal?
-
The Krytox 100 is also available on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pinewood-Derby-DuPont-Krytox-100-Oil-Lubricant-1-8oz-/330679940326?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cfe0f74e6). 1/8oz costs around 10 bucks.

I was talking about the ebay deal(but 1/2 oz) when I mentioned Krytox GPL100.
Do you know where I could get GPL106? Upon googling, I found http://www.miller-stephenson.com/products/krytox_fluorinated_lubricants.aspx but people only have ordered GPL100 from there. If you know any other places that sell the lubricant in small quantities(1/2 oz or less), I would appreciate it if you share the information.
RO-59 drys up too(I heard it is designed to work when dry), and I wonder if Krytox maintains some lubricity when dried up. Also, I do not see any information on how durable RO-59 are.
If budget allows, I would like to try both 100 and 105(or 106) and see for myself the effects, unless anyone had done similar experiment for my purpose (lubricating HHKB sliders)..
-
The Krytox is only available in 0.5l bottles. Here (http://www.netmercury.net/generalpurposestandardgrade.aspx) is a supplier.
The RO is designed to be DRY, as it is a dry lubricant. The Krytox is a synthetic oil.
-
Thanks for the info, RiGS.
50ml of RO-59 is too much for a normal keyboard lover.
1ml is enough to apply for my HHKB. I'll never exhaust this amount in my life :)
So I'm trying this trade and it is very successful so far!
FYI: RiGS is who organized a RO-59 small group buy with a few people including myself.
-
50ml is enough, when you accidentally spill half of it.

I heard about this incident, and apparently it doesn't wipe off too well :P
My 50ml is still unused, I need to look for a brush, or maybe do what the Koreans do and get a syringe. This bottle is going to last me a longggggg while haha
-
Thanks to that accident we realized that it's much more durable than other graphite or ptfe based dry lubricants.
Get a small artistic brush to apply it.
-
definitely interested i dont think i have any of those items to trade sadly I don have a complete set of the metalic grey keys from unicomp though.

Thanks for the link, RiGS. 500mL bottle is much cheaper($ per unit wise), but it is too much lubricant for one to handle. However, I think it would be useful for some who are interested in group buys.
I managed to order two 1/2oz bottles of GPL100, GPL105, at a price of 21 USD each plus shipping(they only sell and ship to businesses..) It is still expensive, but things don't come free. I would get to see for myself whether GPL100 really evaporate that fast.(The test result in the spec sheet says 11% evaporates after 22hr at 66C(150F), but doesn't say much about the rate at normal temperature.) One lubricant that was on my membrane keyboard seemed like it is pretty low viscosity stuff, but it lasted long time. I will get to see if it is the case with Krytox.
-
Can't wait to try mine out!!

Why would you want a lubricant(GPL100) on the slider that best used prior races and won't last long? It doesn't make any sense.
On the other hand the RO KT is a lubricant specially designed for Key Tronic to provide smooth action to their keyboard switches. It is safe for plastic, very durable and provides a superior coating to any other dry lubricants on the market. Also it won't attract any dirt or dust.
I'm looking forward to hear about your results. If it works out for you, I may do a group buy later on that 0.5l bottle.

Let's say it is out of curiosity. And I am more open to possibility of finding a better solution. If you accept one thing is better than anything else, there would be no improvement and no fun in searching.
I am fully aware of the low viscosity and relatively high evaporation rate at high temperature(66C). Yet, I wonder if it would leave some kind of coating of the oil behind. Also, I am kind of looking for one lubricant used in one of my membrane keyboards, which one with and the other without made night and day difference, but I never figured out what they were. They had very low viscosity and lasted pretty long time on seldom used keys and were slightly wet. I seriously doubt it is krytox, but I want to try some lubricants that have low viscosity and plastic safe. The membrane keyboard I am talking about here is MS keyboard elite for bluetooth.
Also, having two different lubricants would enable me to mix. I could try to mix low viscosity with grease or any other solvents. My main purpose is to try out and experiment.
I will let you know how GPL100 works out for my worn out HHKB. Previously I tried KG8 on the sliders only(KG8 seems to be acetone based and eat away housing of HHKB), but I was not very happy with the results.
Since then, I have painted thin coat of some lithium grease with PFTE and it seem to work well for now. It reduced friction by 5g to 10g(one to two nickles), so effect is pretty huge. It is however unclear how it would perform in the long term.
Oh.. and I also tried silicone oil before(high viscosity oil), and it didn't work out well either. It was too sticky to my taste. Maybe I over applied the oil. This is one of many reasons why I want to try low viscosity one.
My choices make sense to me, but I guess it doesn't make sense to you. Well, to general public, spending good amount of money on keyboards is non-sensical anyways. A self-proclaimed #1 keyboard expert openly say putting effort in lubricating Cherry switches don't make much sense. I seriously doubt OTD/KBDMania guys who are into cutomizing would agree on that opinion. Every opinion may have its own grounds, but I don't think they are pursuasive to every one.
-
I can understand your desire to experiment with different kind of lubricants, I also want to find out what works the best.
Personally the RO worked out great for me.

This guy also used the RO KT on his modded HHKB.
Feel free to try Super Lube synthetic oils as well. There is a low viscosity variant without the PTFE particles.

BiNiaRis, limmy, WhiteRireDragon and ripster,
The all bottles of RO-59 were shipped today! It will take 5-8 days from Japan to your postbox.
Thanks for nice trades, you guys.

damn kinda wanted some

I got Krytox GPL 105 today. Thanks for great deal, limmy.

BiNiaRiS,
I posted this here because I sent you PM but I've not got response from you yet.
I don't have any idea whether you already sent them or not.
Let me know plz.
Thanks.
I've got a US backslash and should have a few Alt keys for you. I'd love to get some of this to try it out.
-
^BiNi is in the middle of moving at the moment so he hasn't been active for the past few weeks
-
Thanks for the info. Oh, He is still moving?
I found some his posts in last few days. So I'm just concerned about him missing my PM.
I think I should wait for him with little more patience.
-
BiNi is good for it, hes just busy that's all
-
Spam his inbox.
What would it cost me to buy one of these as I don't have the keycaps you are looking for? Krytox 100 is too thin for me and doesn't give the desired buttery smooth result I was looking for. So I would like to try RO-59 as an alternative.
-
I no longer have extra to sell or trade now.
But I can proxy a 260ml bottle of RO-59 for you. It will cost 3990 + shipping cost.
EMS costs around 2000yen for USA.
But I think 260ml is too much for personal use.

Maybe. Never over 100USD.

If other people want to split it with me I'd be in.

If other people want to split it with me I'd be in.
Start a gb
-
7bit stole my customers last time I did that...
Maybe later...
-
I am willing to spend $20 on RO-59 if a gb is initiated. Count me in.
@The_Ed
If you want to try it out, I could spare about 3ml (2/3 full bottle hasu sent me). Please PM me your address if you are interested. I would be able to ship it for free.
-
3ml wouldn't be enough for a whole board if I turn out to like it. But thanks for the offer. If like 3 more people are interested we could split it 5 ways. Any less than that and it would be a little spendy.
-
I ended up spending 1ml to work on my HHKB and I applied generous amount of the lube. I think it would be more than enough for two boards. However, it is always nice to have some banked up.
Please PM me if you find more people.
