I've decided to purchase a mechanical keyboard but can't decide on the switch.  I'm thinking either mx black or mx blue.  I won't be using the keyboard for gaming, just spend a lot of time typing.  I've used old IBM M keyboards and loved them.  Also I'm on a bit of a budget, under 100 US if possible or as close to it as possible, however I don't want to buy an inferior keyboard to save 15-20 dollars.  Can you point me in the right direction.

CM Storm Quickfire is the best under $100 and would come in mx blues.

Why black or blue? If you want to play safe get browns, since jumping from rubber dome to blacks will be a big change.Blacks are more for gamers

Check out YouTube for video(s) of someone typing on Cherry MX blue first to see if the sound/noise level is ok with you (also check out vid of Cherry MX black just for comparison).  As for the board around $100, Leopold is also pretty good.

ripster Sorry, I should have said in my OP I read through the START+HERE+--+... wiki article, some parts of it several times, before ending up here.  Still wasn't sure what to go with.

I have looked at several YouTube videos for noise levels and where I end up is, I just don't think it will play a role for long.  If I chose based on sound it would definitely be red or black, but I don't think they would be the best fit for what I want to do.  And again I believe I will rapidly adapt to noise changes (can't speak for others around me who will have to deal but...)

I'm leaning heavily toward blue.  My next question is, other than noise, are there other considerations I should factor in switching from rubber dome.  Should I do some transition with a brown switch for a few months and then move to a blue?  

Also, are there recommendations for good browns in that price range or other blues.  I looked at the Razer BlackWidow which seemed like a good fit but I've read that the board has some issues.

In the end I ordered the XArmor U9Plus and the CM keyboard  recommended above.  Thanks again for help
