Title: Tech help needed!
Post by: polentA on Sat, 25 February 2012, 19:02:46
Hey everyone, I have two problems that are seriously beginning to bug me.  They are both sorta related, so any input would be appreciated!

The first problem is that for a split second, my computer fails to recognize that my mouse (Razer Diamondback) is plugged in.  All of a sudden my cursor stops moving, the sound alert for disconnecting a device goes off, then back on and the mouse works just fine.  It's usually only a second, but has really messed up my gaming in Starcraft and the new Cry of Fear mod.

The second problem is somewhat related. I have a 1Tb external hard-drive with mostly music on it.  Obviously, this has to be plugged in for any of my music to work, but my computer doesn't seem to recognize the hard-drive unless I take it out and plug it back in.  Once I turn my computer off, then back on, the hard drive just disconnects itself from the computer and is not recognized anymore.  Thus, every single time I have to unplug and replug in my hard-drive for my music to work, for example.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Disable usb sleep state and see if that helps. I had that problem on my old pc and once I turned off usb slective sleep it stopped doing that. Device managment>usb>properties>power management, uncheck allow computer to turn off.

So turning off sleep mode solved my mouse detection problem. But my external hard drive is still not detected upon start up, even though the light on the hard drive is on and its connected.  Any thoughts?

I believe it's a HITACHI SimpleDrive 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive HSD1000.
Kinda old.

Edit:
Wow, apparently a really ****ty (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-145-293&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2#scrollFullInfo)  purchase I made a long time ago.

Those aren't the greatest, but the actual hard drive inside is not that bad usually. The usb to sata? adapter on those are terrible and cause the problem, as you know. Could grab some other enclosure and dump the disk in it, what I would do.
