Hey all...
I'm looking to add to my list of Mac/nix-compatible mechs, and I really want something along the lines of the Choc Mini. Can anyone tell me what boards, if any, fit the bill? I don't really want to run a bunch of adapters so non-NKRO is pretty much a must, although for the right board I may sacrifice having a perfectly organized desk :)
Also, if anybody is interested, and this doesn't already exist, I would be willing to collaborate on some mac-specific keyboard documentation/resources. PM if you want to discuss.

Why not a HHKB?

non-NKRO
?
Except the Choc Mini, the RACE and PLU-ML87 are both fine for Macs. NKRO isn't the real issue, it's the controller implementation. Whether or not a board has diodes for NKRO doesn't matter, it only depends on how they implement the NKRO over USB functionality. If you take a controller like Soarer's Teensy converter, it will handle NKRO over USB with any OS just fine. As long as the board does not advertise NKRO over USB, you should have no problems either way. The ML87 isn't even NKRO capable, it doesn't have the requisite diodes. The CMStorm is 6KRO over USB using a controller that is AnyOS compatible. Same goes for the RACE.

Also, McRip got you covered: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=NKey+Rollover+-+Overview+Testing+Methodology+and+Results
RTFW! FTW!
Edit: The wikis are not as up to date as I'd expect...

Thanks, I was wondering about that. I do realize that if the board doesn't specifically say NKRO over USB it should be fine, but I am trying to narrow down the list of candidates, not make the list of non-compatibles larger.
AFA the plu-m-- thanks, didn't catch that.

I read in the RACE preorder thread that it would not work well with OS X. Is there some newer info about that?

Why not a HHKB?
Because I know it works with OS X ;) Also, I would like to find a board with arrow keys, but it's not an absolute necessity. Also, it's a little cost prohibitive for me right now.

Many thanks. I haven't been on Deskthority too much.

mm, amasokin from that deskthority thread seems to suggest that it doesn't work on his MBP 13" but works on his imac and older version macbook pro heh. I'm not sure what happened that but it certainly could mean that it might not work on some macs, so I wouldn't call that entirely os x compatible eh?
-
It's possible. I have an older MBP that I plan on keeping for a while; I prefer the rounded corners design to the unibody. I've seen online that people are using keyremap for mac and it seems to work, so I'll give that a try too. The RACE is too tempting...

http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?27216-60-Keyboard-Pure-Layout-(ASCII) if you're trying to go small
Arrow keys over Fn...but the same size as the Poker/HHKB and it'll be compatible, and possibly remappable...but you'll have to wait until it's released.

Yeah I've seen this as well, much nicer looks than the choc mini. I already PO'd a RACE but I might pick one of these up when there's a group buy.
