  Hmm, confused needs a light background to make sense.  he just looks sad.

Aha.. yes, understandable.  I am happy to have no idea why people like cherry DS caps.

Me neither until one day I got the chance to try them. Blew me away. its at least 2,3 times thicker than the SP double shots. And the legend contrast is just great.

Ah well, it's bad enough that I am in love w/ PBT.  Been eying imsto's thick set and cheering that they aren't a color I want... it's like my relationship with chocolate.

Who needs backlit keys when you have contrast this good?  I have a set of Cherry double shots on my main Filco and I can vouch, the contrast is pretty awesome.

$86 is a little high for ISO DS keycaps.  At least it has free shipping.

You were $3 away, mr sniper. I wouldn't have gone so high if it wasn't for the centered stem caps lock.

Caps lock is all that matters :)

Thats ok, too close to 90 bucks would have made me sad. I was already feeling rather uncomfortable with 85

congrats on your win

The keys look pretty clean from the pic, u should be able to scoop at least around half of the investment back from selling the rest of the keys and perhaps the switches.

Will see if it has better than 2kro. It's an older model, so it might. If it's a good board, no sense in tearing it apart, well asides from swapping the caps to some others. I do hope it's in as good shape as it appears. Have a few friends on the fence on getting a mechanical, so it could be a good starter board for someone I know.

Spend a little more time looking around the net. They're available cheaper and in ANSI.

This is why I don't go around buying up all the cheap Cherry crap that's out there. All I end up doing is packing them away, too lazy to sell. >_<

Care to share some of your search magic? I am pretty good at finding a lot of outdated sites that have listings from 1997, or seller that won't ship to US. Most of the recycler places don't list anything well enough to know what it is for sure, and the pictures are usually so small and **** you can't tell from those either.
Not sure where else I should be looking.

I was after it too, but definitely too high for that even though the capslock is nice :P

I increased it to $86 at the last second.

Not sure what i'll do with them. I was thinking of modding my filco to be like green switches to see how I like them. I'm sure i'll find some uses for them

You guys/gals in the US and anyone from DE should count yourselves lucky that you have access to such sources like ebay where lots of similar/Cherry items come up fairly often. Nothing like that in the UK - I guess that they are not that common around here. I've been looking around and I think I've only seen a couple of doubleshot boards in the last three months. I was thinking about bidding on this one but the seller was not willing to ship to the UK. I remember one of the more altruistic guys/gals offering a US forwarding service so I might have to take you up on that offer some time.

if you are not looking specifically for caps lock key. Go to deskthority and join the will be happening group buy by Ascaii. There will also be a moogle kit group buy to make up for the incompatible keys in our group buy section.

I love me some POS but Dang $86 is too much to throw down on a used one even if it has doubleshots. what switches does it have anyways?

Well it does usually, if they are following their own model numbers, but they don't always.

I saw that yesterday, yeah.  And the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that... every time I search for "cherry g80" or "cherry g81" on ebay, actually.

I hate you guys for getting me into this stupid hobby.  Why does geekhack even exist? ( ._.)

I gotta say $86 is way too much imo...and all for a center stemmed caps lock key? I guess the numpad caps are cool but who likes numpads :P

I'll bet that it does it fact have black switches. There is another variant HPU that has clears.

I look at it as more around $70... shipping is tacked on there. I never include shipping as part of the total since it makes me feel better. LOL. Plus I have confirmed my friend is definitely interested in it as long as it has no blocking in the WASD area at least, so I will be getting $40 back on it automatically after I swap it to a POM lasered set I have for him.

Guess this is kinda how things are for vintage boards nowadays... the days of easy to get dirt cheap old boards on auction sites are gone for the time being.. :(  Either we happen to want something no one else on GH is interested or we see the price getting jacked up...

Make the world's largest keyboard.
Title: Who bid?
Post by: IvanIvanovich on Wed, 29 February 2012, 14:33:25
Yep... the few bigger ebay sellers that deal in keyboards regularly have gotten wise, and have been doing a good job of listing it with the full model number, and pics of switches and backsides of caps a lot lately. They have been tracking the going prices, and starting the bids / BIN accordingly. Either that or it's listed by a newb seller with nothing more helpful than 'keyboard' as the listing title. So unless you trawl through every listing wading through a billion useless laptop replacement boards, and can spot a good find in their out of focus tiny picture...
Either you find a nice poorly listed item at a good deal, or you will have to deal with a high price and/or bidding war.

You UK people have all the sweet POS keyboards by Access-is and tipro. I know the access-is boards are much less common here in the USA.

Well... a BIG surprise, and I feel this was so worth the price. This board is fitted with some strange light white linear switches, just a wee bit heavier than reds, but not as heavy as blacks, linear switch perfection here. It is also in excellent condition, with very little wear. Seems to have been from a fitness center judging by the inserts on the relegendables. Has a little light dirt, I need to get it cleaned up a bit and I will post pictures.
