So yeah. I work in a Canadian Tire and they are slowly replacing our computers, which means that they are getting rid of the Model Ms and they are buying cheap rubber dome crap instead.
I am not interested in owning a Model M so I have not offered to buy them, but would GeekHack be interested?'
I don't guarantee I could get them, but I most likely could.
EDIT: The layout includes F1-F24 Keys. I will take a picture next time I work.

I would want one :D
Never tried buckling springs but definitely in for one.

I've seen the model Ms Canadian Tire uses and they have a bunch of extra buttons if I'm not mistaken - ie non 100% ANSI layout. But if some of them are traditional ansi layout model m's I might be interested. Where in Canada are you located?
-
That sounds awesome I would be in for one depending on the cost.
-
Depends on the condition of the keyboard, but I wouldnt mind having one.
-
same here
-
In for one!
-
Actually, I would like to know how much to offer.
Most of our keyboards have F1-F24 keys but the rest is traditional.
I'll take a picture next time I work.

Hi ReAzem,
Whereabouts? And are any of them 'Model F' with the black metal bottom, or are they all M with the plastic bottom?
Exactly what is in use varies from store to store. The common thing is they require some sort of converter to be absolutely convenient to use, such as Soarer's, which is often near the top of the Mods section.
Quebec.
I belive it they are plastic bottom. I'm guessing you guys will recognize the model when I post the pictures.
-
Put me on the list for one as well.
-
I would definitely be interested. Looking for my first mechanical keyboard and the Model M seems like a great place to start.

Hey Folks -
Nobody loves buckling springs more than I do, but before you get too excited, think it through. The 122-key layout is not so different, in a lot of ways, but there are some important ones. I like some extra keys at the top (I do not use a half-dozen of them at all, but could) and I have really enjoyed an extra set of F keys on the left.
The Model F-122 is somewhat easier to take apart and put back together in order to move things around for a near-ANSI layout (assuming that is what you want in North America) but taking the M-122 apart to move springs is going to involve cutting rivets and doing a bolt-mod.
You will probably also need something like a Teensy $20 and some associated wring work there.
If these things are selling cheap, including shipping (no small issue when our Canadian friends are involved) then great (sounds like "tire store = abuse" to me, however) but this may not be something that pleases you right out of the box.
If you "have always wanted to try out a Model M" I would recommend buying a standard one instead, and plugging it in for standard use straightaway.

Would love to see some photos!

Maybe clickykeyboards.com would be interested in buying them all together?

I'll try giving priority to whoever posted first and is still interested.
I don't even know how many keyboards they will be willing to sell.
1 Keyboard per person sounds fair.

That is the keyboards.

Can I pay in Canadian Tire Coupons?
the Canadian Tire money to CAD exchange rate is pretty low, but we could make this work. :P

Those are terminal F keyboards. How many do you have?? and is the one in the picture the best condition of them all?

It's the average condition. The ones in the backstore tend to be in better condition tho.
I can't really tell how much my boss is willing to sell. But he is soon replacing all the computers in the car section, that is about 3-4. And he also has some in the backstore, not used.
If you guys tell me what you are willing to pay, I will go ahead and offer him.

I'm not so sure about that http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Vintage-Model-M-1395660-1395661-Terminal-Plug-Clicky-Keyboard-/120871154806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c247b7476#ht_790wt_1396 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Vintage-Model-M-1395660-1395661-Terminal-Plug-Clicky-Keyboard-/120871154806?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c247b7476#ht_790wt_1396)

The Model F 122-key terminal board has a square aluminum badge on the right of the raised part, above the home cluster.
Apparently, some very early Model Ms had it there, too, before it moved to the left side.
If the labels are still there, they will say which it is.
Pop a key and look down. If it is capacitive, you will see individual barrels poking through a metal plate. I would say those would be far more desirable.
If it is membrane, the "barrel plate assembly" will be all one big plastic part with the barrels integral.

Asking "Does anybody want a Model M" on GeekHack is like going to a bodybuilding forum and saying "So I found this big pack of anabolic steroids, any takers?"
Jokes aside, those M's don't look like they had an easy life, These are working girls. I'd probably snap one up if I had any cash lying about, and/or I don't already own an M and a unicomp SpaceSaver. Somebody'll grab these quick though. GLWS.

And he also has some in the backstore, not used.
. . .Proceed.
-
I would LOVE to purchase one, depending on the price.
-
Give me a price and I would probably buy one. :D
-
Lol is this a circle jerk or something?? OP is asking for offers on the board and NOT giving a quote.
Id pay 50 shipped if it was in new condition maybe more.

Do you have pictures of the unused ones?
-
I would pay 30 for that keyboard in the picture, but that is just what I would pay, others on the forum may even pay more.
-
Really? That thing is BEAT. idk.
-
Let us know the cost. PM me if you can get a hold of them. I want one if the price is right.
-
There are always several of these on ebay for under $50 shipped .......

I'm interested, I'll be in Vancouver soon and could pick one up at an address there. I don't mind paying a little money, but I'd hope they could throw in a set of wiper blades and a Canucks beer koozy.

I will update when I talk to my boss.
