So I have been using my cherry brown filco for approximately 3-4 months, and I have to say I prefer mechanical over rubber dome and I will never go back.
However today I had some spare time so I went to my local computer shop, hoping that I would be able to try out the razer blackwidow. To my suprise they had the keyboard out on display to try out, and also a steelseries 6gv2. So I stood there like some nutcase pushing the switches for about 15 minutes trying to make up my mind. I found blacks really smooth, but they would be a pain to type on.
THEN I TRIED THE BLUES.
WOW, they are amazing - I thought that the small actuation difference would be unnoticeable, but the tactility is just so easy to feel, compared to my browns. The keys actually felt sufficiently heavier than browns too, which is an advantage because I keep accidently hitting keys in the wrong order because my browns are so light.
So in case you couldn't tell I want a new keyboard with cherry mx blues :)
I was wondering if you guys could recommend me a board - I am looking for something that is comfortable to type on for long periods (I am a computer programmer), I would like to have the numpad (unless any programmers on here can convince me otherwise :)) and finally I want it to be solidly built.

Get a Filco.
-
But they're expensive :(

But they're expensive :(
Then CM Storm Quickfire Rapid?
-
No numpad or UK layout :(
-
Like Wat hcry said. Filco
-
But they're expensive :(
You might have to sell your current Filco then.
-
gulp. what about wasd keyboards how good are they?
-
I like the WASD keyboards quite a bit, good solid construction and build quality, but the price is almost as much as a Filco, so you might as well buy the Filco =]
-
I'm from the UK so i'm not so sure about that...
£120.00 for a full 105 key filco with blues from keyboardco
wasdkeyboards around $130 and I imagine $30 or so for shipping, so that's $160 (about £100)
so 20 quid difference :/ - I suppose it's probably best to just get a filco... Does anyone else have any recommendations? - and also I am interested to see if any programmers on here use a tenkeyless board as their main board.

I just wanted to say that I am cracking up at your username, FerretBuster. I totally busted my ferret earlier for trying to steal a bag of pretzels off my desk.
-
If your in the UK pm Mackam he's selling his.
-
Leopold's are good also, but I've never laid hands on a Filco before. I have a Leo fullsize with blues and I love it for the price I paid!
-
I just picked up a Leopold with blues, couldnt be happier got it at Elite Keyboards blues are now my favorite

Get a Filco.
Yeah. I haven't tried too many different brands but Filcos are so rad I don't want to try any other company.

I totally busted my ferret earlier...
That's a hell of a euphemism...

That's a hell of a euphemism...
Lol!
Not fair WHY IS IT NOT IN THE UK LAYOUT!!!! http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rcawn
and I also found this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0041KJKAG/ref=asc_df_B0041KJKAG6925278?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B0041KJKAG
Is that board any good?

Never mind. It has two key rollover, and I need more than that for gaming. Looks like a filco it is then.
But I have one question - How similar does the filco with blues feel compared to a razer blackwidow, and how similar is the sound? (The reason I want to know this is for comparisons sake, as I have tried out a razer blackwidow)

That's a hell of a euphemism...
haha I'm cracking up, I had no idea "ferret" was a nickname for a body part.
Anyway, regarding Razer vs Filco, I've only tried the Razer in the store, and didn't like the keycaps. A lot of people seem to love Filcos here, I'd probably go with the Filco.

I just bought a Leopold mx blue from a local forum member for my second keyboard. My first was a Leopold mx brown otaku black case. I love both. I use blue for work and brown for home. I frankensteined some keys from one to the other.
I love the blues. The sound! They sound like they are loose keys that rattle but when you shake them they don't make any sound. I also pound my keys when I type (100+wpm easy) at work and its AWESOME.
I haven't used a filco or anything but Leopold's and I like them. Super affordable from ekb

hehe, well I didn't particularly want to purchase a black widow, I was just wondering how the sound and feel of it compares to a filco. And I'm afraid I can't get a leopold because i'm in the UK, so it looks like it's going to have to be a filco.

How does Das Keyboard hold up against Filco?

Just remember if you are looking at importing you have to pay import tax. Unless you are going to get them to declare it low value/gift (that EK will not do).
-
Yea I'm just going for a filco. :D

I have a das, a lot of people don't like the glossy finish, but it doesn't bother me too much. No complaints about mine so far.
