Title: ClickClack sale today
Post by: shawn o on Fri, 09 March 2012, 13:54:06
I predict website will crash in a hard way (again).

Should list at random time or on ebay via fixed price auctions. Their servers can take it.

Has nothing to do with the sale, so who knows?

edit - more accurately it had nothing to do with the sale last time, so it's unlikely that any issues will arise due to the sale this time.

That said, it doesn't mean the twat doing this won't kill it on a Friday night like he did last time.

No, clickclack will be holding a sale at 4 PST, check out his member forum for more info under: 4Grabs

You send him a PM with what you want and if you are fast enough you get the keys you PM him

If anything, ClickClack should raise their prices.

All this will do is increase the resell value of the caps when they're out of stock.

Its just one thing i dont understand with the sale. Do i send clickclack my order 1 second after 4PM or do i have to wait until he writes that the sale is actually started on his subforum thread before anyone can place the PM? In that case its no nead for spamming F5?

You didn't mention your time zone. 17:50 PST is 1h50m after the sale went live, and probably about the time most people were able to get on the forums.

That's probably what kept the server overwhelmed was scripts that auto-reloaded the page. In my opinion that's not fair at all to those who were fairly reloading to send out a PM.

I know these things are desirable, but at what point do we become like those people who trample to death the employees at Walmart on Black Friday?

I discovered the trick to it a little too late.

Just prepare the message beforehand and paste it into his PM. When you click send message and it fails, backspace then click again.
This is a much quicker way of doing it, but I F5'd like an idiot much like everyone else did trying to get his PM url to open.

They aren't priced at any extortionate price from CC himself, at one point they had to become popular and in such high demand, probably because they look cool and are made in such small runs.

He showed me Star Wars as my first movie when I was a kid (born in 88') and I thought it would be a cool thing for us to do heh. What's your sleeve that you need to finish? ClickClack, please don't run any more sales on GH.  Your keycaps are too popular.  Not only do you create undue stress for buyers to purchase your goods, your sales also bring down the site for forum members who are not interested in your sale.

There are many other better ways to do this.  As simple as asking people to send you email to clack factory sales email alias (at specific time or within a time period for a drawing), to setting up a "survey" on surveymonkey.

And most importantly for yourself, private messaging is probably the worst possible way to manage and triage a large number of incoming messages, especially on a slowed down site that is being DDOS'ed.  Other methods are much easier on yourself.

Only problem with it is that it eliminates the chance for anyone without much money to get a hold of it.
The resale value is definitely making a load more ppl chase the keys though.

The way things are atm though, I would probably rather just buy one off someone in the forums for $50 instead of wasting 2-4 hours sitting at my computer refreshing a web page

2 hours to get in.. Why isnt this run lottery style and winner are banned from the next 3 sales?
For many reasons-
1) I have done lottery style sales here before and they went ok with perhaps a slight negative bias.
2) It requires far more work to do a lottery style sale
3) lottery style sales don't seem to work that well for multiple item sales
4) My schedule fits this type of sale quite well (and not all of them will be like this)
5) Members actually don't have a better chance at getting items when it's random/lottery
6) constantly banning people from sales would be harsh, would upset many, and these works are not a food staple for dying people.
7) would likely lead to many more new members getting in on sales that have no history here or experience, no comfort zone (so to speak)
I have numerous other reasons, however some are more personal, but just as important.

Quote from: litster;540865

That is a very strong request you have there, one that I hope is not shared by many. And here is why I hope you are in the very, very tiny minority.
I feel very connected to this site/community and these sales are available in this community ONLY. It is one of the ways I would like to show respect, support, and gratitude. Clearly I mean no harm by them, that would defeat the point entirely. It saddens me greatly knowing that I could be in part compromising some peoples enjoyment of this site. Lets however keep this in perspective, the previous sales with the exception of the last canceled one went decently well and the site really didn't experience problems. I was lead to believe that the previously canceled sale was just unfortunately timed. I truly did not believe that this recent sale would contribute to the same problems as last time or I would not have done the sale, PERIOD! I enjoy and respect this community too much just to **** with it for some sort of lulz.

I would also like it to be noted that I made this sale almost exactly 2x larger than any previous sale in order for everyone to get in on it who ordered within some sort of reasonable amount of time. These accomodations would have sufficed easily for any of the previous sales. This recent sale however produced 4x the number of orders as my last large sale, far exceeding my extended accomodations.

I would like to dispell some misconceptions while I am at it now that I have a bit of "experience" under my belt.
1)PM's are quite accurate and the work flow luckily happens to be quite efficient (it took me somewhat by surprise as well a while back)
2)Emails (not pms) are very innacurrate timing wise and I would have to verify each individual member (it also makes me more vulnerable)
3)If I did more sales outside of gh our members would have a much slimmer chance of getting keys and most accomodations will be out of my control.
4)I have not implemented any of my ideas lightly or quickly, they have been carefully thought out over a good long while and many have been gained from community feedback and experience.
5)If I could do things differently right now then I would. I have now spent around 30hrs on the last (canceled) sale and this one and I have not made a dime yet (nor is it over) and this sale will not equate to being in any way financially worth it when you take into account the other problems it has inadvertantly caused.

BTW every single person who tried to order in the first 4 hours who did not get a key in this sale will be given the chance to get something in the next sale, which will be specifically set up for them. I will always try my best to make things right and/or as fair as possible and reasonable!

tl;dr -
Please all, please none and hindsight is indeed 20/20.

Fair point, and that wasn't my intention, nor strictly true... but I'm sure you get what I am saying

But I have little spare time and a job, whereas other ppl in school or whatever are the opposite and they will never see those caps if they're auctioned on ebay...

edit: also like to add that I would never try selling mine on at some gross profit, but I have bought caps at high prices and it was a helluva lot less stressful and time consuming than the many fruitless hours I have put into camping EK/mashing f5 on 4grabs days

I was up until 3:00 AM... :-) But that's ok if you know the time in advance, so you can prepare. But the clickclack sales on EK are bad for people in Europe... nobodys awake at that time :-)

Edit: But I think that's part of the fun... the hunt... If you could buy these every day at every hour, the fun would be not so big. And if you know that you stayed up all night long and succeeded, you will be ten times happier then with a normal purchase in a shop...

ClickClack, please don't run any more sales on GH.  Your keycaps are too popular.  Not only do you create undue stress for buyers to purchase your goods, your sales also bring down the site for forum members who are not interested in your sale.

Is this why the site was down (i.e., "busy") earlier tonight, at like 8pm EST?  If so, I agree with this^

Not clickclack's fault people are so desperate for his skulls.

But I also understand why people go crazy, it seems the same 4-5 people always ended up buying from his 4grabs sales which pushes others to be more aggressive on trying to buy so the same 4-5 don't buy again.

Clickclack, I mean no offense.  I have started buying your keycaps recently as well.  They look cool.  And I understand why you want to do this on GH.  It is a good thing.  I am not saying that you shouldn't sell your keys here.  I am saying the way it is done is not optimal, if not for you, for your buyers.  Who felt good sitting next to their computer for 2 hours on a Friday evening?  Wait, maybe we all were going to be next to our computers anyway.

The problem is your keycaps are in super high demand, a lot of people want them can't get them.  So when you announce there is a sale, and people know that is it first come first serve, they rush, like people running over people at Walmart on Black Friday morning.  You should still announce your sales here, and you should continue to connect with your fans here.  But it would be good to offload things that the Geekhack server can't handle to some other services.  Keep doing the way you are doing, and it will always bring down the Geekhack until the server are upgraded or demands slow down.

Also, the way it is now, you are not accommodating your your international buyers.  If you have a longer time frame and people don't have to rush, it makes the buying experience better.

I think the goals for your sales are, in prioritized order:
- sell your goods
- let buyers buy your goods
- make it easy for buyers to buy your goods (including your international buyers)
- make it easy for you to sell your goods
- make it fair for all buyers
- Try not to bring down Geekhack and affect non-buyers' geekhack activities

No doubt, this is actually a good problem to have for you, because it is good business and it is good your production is well loved by the community.  Obviously it is your choice how you want to run it.  Just keep in mind how other people and Geekhack are affected by this.

Thanks.

I believe the site was being under a DDoS while the sale was going on. I don't think CCs sale was to blame for system performance last night or last week. He has done two other successful sales with this format before without issue.
Title: ClickClack sale today
Post by: litster on Sat, 10 March 2012, 12:13:59
It was DDOS'ed by all the buyers all coming here all at the same time.  It wasn't a problem before because they were not as in high demand as it is now.

Your right it definitely didn't help that there was alot of buyers constantly F5ing the site to death, but in addition to that there was an actual DDoS attack happening as well. the timing probably wasn't coincidental as well, I would assume it has something to do with some disgruntled person who was unable to get CC keys previously.

iMav has not stated absolutely that there was a DDoS attack last night.  However there most certainly has been an on-going issue that iMav has been dealing with and giving a little information about that involves someone(s) DDoSing GH.
Title: ClickClack sale today
Post by: whiskerBox on Sat, 10 March 2012, 12:27:36
iMav confirmed that site was under a DDoS attack. Anyways it doesn't matter the fact is you are right this is not the best way to do this. My only concern is that our collective complaining will only lead CC to seek outlets for his sales that are not associated with geekhack and further distance the community from his products. We need to find an alternative that is both time efficient and easy for CC while still remaining here in the geekhack community.

The DDOS may as well be all the bots people are running to check for new posts on Classifieds and other forums.  That is why interesting classifieds are bought within a few minutes.  Many bots are set to refresh every few seconds.  It doesn't take very many bots/scripts to slow the site down, especially for a small server.  This may be why we see all the slow downs.  And when the sales start, all hell breaks lose.

The real solution is really to just produce more or raise the prices. If the supply is greater than the initial wave of demand, then there should be little issue with people being left out, as there is more than enough to go around. Raising the prices lessens the demand, and increasing the supply to meet the demand also solves the problem.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if you made your own website where people could just buy them until they were out, in the same manner EK does, but without the middleman. I guess you must not be very website savvy to have not done that already. I was going to do that for my group buys even, but if this was my model I would have done it a long time ago.

Also is it just me or is the site acting funny ever since yesterday, the thread I posted in last keeps showing up in my subscriptions as unread, and when I read it again it shows as read (non bold) but stays in my UserCP, it never used to do that.

I doubt there was a DDoS being run at the same time, I'm pretty sure it was just everyone on here trying to get keys.

Right.  Again, I am not saying CC should leave.  No, far from that.  Announce it here.  Talk to people here.  Find a way to do this so Geekhack is not brought down.  Collect orders with other service or method, or add more hardware to GH.

I don't run vB so I don't know what sort of load that places on a server... but from what iMav said the server GH is on is far from what I consider small.  I have servers with less than a quarter the horsepower and much slower storage doing far more than I've seen GH handle on the frontend.  What's being pounded up GH's backend by hackers is another thing entirely, I don't know what sort of volume is there.

edit: Oh yeah, in case you might think I'm talking out my ass I am a Sr Admin for a fortune 500.

I think if he noticed certain IPs taking extremely high load, he could ban those IPs, or should be able to depending on how the server runs. I forget a lot of that stuff.

@Litster, there's a typo in your post, it should be that you're saying he shouldn't leave. But yeah it would be essentially the same if the buy was hosted on your own site, and only advertised here. That way it would be run essentially the exact same, except instead of clicking on your name to send you a PM, they click on a link to put in an order. No guarantees that wouldn't crash the site anyways for people trying to get to the link though lol. Hopefully it would be made available in advance.

I don't agree with this as this is fun to collect due to the rarity of the item, if you have something so common the fun isn't there. CC has the pricing model the way it is for a reason I assume, and most of CC's work isn't mass made, I don't know if thats due to limitations or his business model but I am a firm believer of rare items priced not ridiculously and can still work. Of course you're going to have people crying about not having any but that's the way it goes.

I think CC just doesn't have time to maintain his own site atm with his current job, he's doing it here on GH as a favor to us since a lot of us here seem to love his work, that's why he's taking time out of his day to do this for us.

Really?  Not to be the turd... but I know of a few people that collect these because they are cool... then there's the list of people that have to have them in some neurotic sense, collection OCD, ePeen, OMG skulls!... and then there's the list of people that plan on flipping them or trading them for profit.

Personally I believe that collecting is a disease and while I did attempt to get a couple CCs last night I spent all of 15 minutes doing it and I would land in that last list I mentioned.

I don't agree with the increase in quantity/price. It's not going to help the situation.

There are two issues here:

-people who are unable to get keys
-sales causing major stress on GH servers.

For removing stress from GH, maybe he can use google docs? That would put in all the entries in at the right times instead of email.

Some people enjoy the keycaps (me for one) as much as their keyboards. They keycaps are a part of the keyboard.

You can set up surveys that are only inputs. and then it places it into a spreadsheet when submitted.

I don't think people will chill the **** out until the keys become "common" enough.

Some people enjoy the keycaps (me for one) as much as their keyboards. They keycaps are a part of the keyboard.

Clickclacks were sitting on ek's site for months untouched before this sudden surge of interest in them.

So yeah, people need to chill out. And maybe everybody can eventually get one and stop breaking the site.

Well I'm pretty sure we know the supply isn't going to increase, due to 2 reasons A. These are ment to be as limited and B. This isn't mass produced like SP so you can't really just randomly pump out a few thousand more, not only that I pretty sure that is not how CC want's it to be.

Price isn't going to increase because CC doesn't feel like it's a mission to make $1000+ everytime he makes a sale/GB he's doing this because he wants to share his work with us.

So basically the only problem is GH falling apart, I honestly think it's mainly due to the sites having problems the last 2 times CC wanted to have a sale, as the first 3 times it was fine, BUT CC did say the amount of people wanting these have increase, though I still think GH can handle it.

Adding this thread to The McKEYmouse Effect (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?23786-Ripster-s-LATEST-Keyboard-Theory-The-McKEYMouse-Effect).

Have I ever told you guys about The Hundredth Monkey Effect?

Who said you could use the image of my keyboard on your page? EH? ; p

You sir just lack taste! Also my filco is pretty plain. Only changed the modifiers and the esc.

People can decorate their keyboards however they like. But I agree with the price bit, not so much with the number of ICs.

My theory: Ripster is mad jelly about these keycaps and layouts people have.

There's a ton of people who have gotten it in who disagree and don't like the format it is run. I am one of them.

Also, the server does not seem to handle it, since its gone down the past 2 times he held a sale.

Never said he wasn't a keyboard expert. That phenomenon has nothing to do with keyboards, just biased observation.

I just wish Geekhack had the capability to hand the loads that CC's sales bring. I saw an iMav post mentioning taking some of the stress away and putting it on a server farm somewhere. My memory is terrible so that is just a rough recollection of what I remember reading.

I'm not claiming this is a complete analysis of the situation but there seems to be some debate going on surrounding this issue.

It seems to me as though some people consider these keycaps as art pieces. Beginning artists usually strive for exposure and thus try to get their art in front of as many people as possible. Granted the art we're talking about here I would consider functional art so in this case the exposure is more than just being able to view the art as pictures on the Internet. Once notoriety is reached, and even before this point, the artist has a decision to make; whether they want more people to experience their art as intended or to keep it to an elite or private group.

Some of the people that already have some of these keycaps seem to have a vested interest in keeping these keys in the private/elite category and it seems the artist does too. I'm basing this off of a statement I remember reading from the artist about making sure these keys are mostly available to the members of the community here, placing emphasis on those that have been here the longest.

This mentality is at odds with the other way to view the situation; getting the keys into the hands of as many people as possible so that more people have an opportunity to appreciate the art.

I'm not expressing my opinion as to which way I believe the situation should be handled but I think this is a large part of people's opinions surrounding these keys and the way they are being sold.

Crying? We are having a discussion about something that has to do with the community. You know, not everybody cares about these sales but the downtime bothers everybody.

I understand what your saying this really is not fair to the people that are just trying to access geekhack. I guess I was merely speaking from that of a consumer standpoint and that was ignorant I am sorry :(

You are right the community is more important then the sale of some keycaps no matter how limited or cool they are.

3) The EK sale did slow down geekhack by a good bit! (not as bad though)

My PM was sent at 18:23 forum time (GMT -7, Mountain TZ). I only requested 2 keys in my order which was below the max and my first listed request was filled.

I should have requested the max number and then sold the 3rd at cost to someone as it seems others are already offering theirs at double the price in the classifieds and people are countering with higher than double offers. If your motive is profit that's the way to do it I guess. I'd rather help someone else out but to each his own.

CC sales are rare.

Even if those people manage to get keys, they will get three.
Making 100$ tops.

But that is only IF they manage to ''F5'' at the right second.

Whats lame is if there was rules on pricing. I always price stuff fair I feel. But you need to yell at the people willing to pay the money not the ones selling. If something is priced too high it won't sell simple as that. If someone is willing to pay then why knock the seller. With click clacks you don't even need a classified. Just mention you might sell one and people will PM you.

You're posting on a forum about a niche market, what did you honestly expect?

it shouldn't be a niche market much longer, the gaming peripherals market may ruin this awesome "exclusivity" that is currently enjoyed... (T_T)

They are too busy making rubber domes with LCD screens and multi-color backlights.

While I agree that the mech market is certainly expanding (I think it's wonderful), there will always be the niche market of the top quality KB/accessories. HHKB, realforce, filcos, customs, ect.

If you hang around here enough you start justifying purchases any way possible :)

You are absolutely right, however things worth noting-
1) did everyone get a good long heads up from EK? No
they did from me ;)
2) did everyone get a chance to get one from EK? No
they did from me ;)
3) The EK sale did slow down geekhack by a good bit! (not as bad though)

My point is they serve different purposes and they serve them better than not.

1) this is between you and EK's communication.  If you guys knew who is going to do what at when, you could have announced it on the forum ahead of time before EK put them up on the site.  So, you and EK could have made it work.  That fail was squarely on you and EK.
2) I say no, not everyone got a chance to get one from you this time either, due to the server not being available for everyone to send you a PM at the time you requested.  By definition, fair chance for everyone means everyone get the same probability to have a chance to buy from you.  Neither EK's sale nor your sale provided that.
3) posting to geekhack about the EK sales pale in comparison to hundreds of people refreshing pages on GH every few seconds or trying to send PMs to you.

EK sale and your sale here on GH may serve different purposes for *you*.  They serve the same purpose for your potential buyers.  People don't care where they can buy your caps.  They care that they can buy them.

I agree hindsight is 20/20.  Knowing what we know now, I would be super disappointed if another clack factory sale brings down geekhack again, because we have hindsight now.

I don't know how anyone can say the gh system is better than EK, when the man has said that he's wasted something like 30 hours running these last two sales and it hasn't been profitable.
At the end of the day while he is doing something for this community, he has to make a bit of coin out of it as well. I wonder how many ppl would do 30 hours work for free for a hundred ppl that spend about the same amount of time bickering about who is going to get the end product? I know I wouldn't.

At least with EK presumably he just hands the goods over and gets some money back without having to worry about the selling part.

I really like these skull caps, but I am starting to question what the hell I am doing, is anyone else doing the same?

The latter is probably what was used in most Saitek keyboards.

If it isn't profitable, (though I doubt it, and wonder where you got the info) then I would for sure recommend that he significantly raise his prices. He should earn some return for what he is doing for this community, or it isn't fair to him. Nobody should be complaining about it either, if that's the case.

Nobody here should have such a boring life that they can't find something else to do for a couple of hours if GH is down.

If I could do things differently right now then I would. I have now spent around 30hrs on the last (canceled) sale and this one and I have not made a dime yet (nor is it over) and this sale will not equate to being in any way financially worth it when you take into account the other problems it has inadvertantly caused.

I have seen a similar situation way back in the day, a bloody good bloke and good friend of mine ran a record store and would go out of his way to get imports (US) to us when the Aussie dollar was crap and it often came out of his own pocket because he didn't jack up his prices. He was "doing something for the community" Well too many ppl really didn't appreciate it and he went out of business

Are you discounting the refresh bots and people F5'ing all the time due to the pending sales that brought down GH on Friday?  If there has been a DDOS attack on GH, then the hacker isn't doing a good job.  It has only been able to slow it down.

Let's say there really was a DDOS attack on GH or some rouge process running on GH's server doing some other things (the server has been compromised many times before).  The CC sales is now the last straw on the camel's back.

Yeah but is Click Clack really the problem? If there are all these other issues happening then it makes sense that we fix those so CClack can run his sales. It should be within the capacity of the forum for it to be run on here if that is the case. IF it is all people trying to get keys, then either we need to do the distributed servers like iMav mentioned or he needs to set up his own site to process orders. If you recall I was for that notion at the outset, its just whether that is convenient/feasible for him in the first place. I am completely on the side of CClack not having to undertake a greater burden if he isn't able to justify it monetarily. If he's just trying to get us some cool keys as a hobby, then I can handle the site being down for a couple of hours every few months. The way the site was slow way before yesterday leads me to believe there are other factors contributing to the slow/inaccessible site though.

I understand your concern but I believe you are still overlooking a number of key aspects-
Quote from: litster;541515
1) this is between you and EK's communication.  If you guys knew who is going to do what at when, you could have announced it on the forum ahead of time before EK put them up on the site.  So, you and EK could have made it work.  That fail was squarely on you and EK.

1)It's NOT A FAIL! As I said before these sales serve different purposes by and large. Doing things the same way is more limiting to different people.
He knows what I am doing and I know what he is doing, I'm the manufacturer, we're not in the dark. A higher number of people AND different people got in on these keys than before. It did work, more people got keys, different people got keys, period.  =)

2)Over 98% of people who ordered in my sale will get keys either in this sale or the closed sale for those who just missed out. If you ordered over 4hrs past the sale then you missed out on both, this constitutes <2% of the people who ordered. Acurrate numbers btw. Fair? I think this is even more fair than everyone having the same chance even if the server didn't go down. The same probablility (your "fairness") would also mean most would not get a key, my way, most WILL GET A KEY. I take your fairness and spit upon it from my moral grounds. LoL (c'mon that was funny). If I bent backwards any further the world would look upside down.

3) NO ONE HONESTLY KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN! Almost 2hrs of the site being down durring my sale and the almost two weeks of the site going down every few minutes or being very inconsistent. Pale in comparison? Really? 2-ish hours of being mostly down compared to over a week of inconsistency. I apologize for any problems on geekhack that I may have caused, I APOLOGIZE TO GEEKHACK FOR ANY PROBLEMS THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED! I already feel horrible about this and I am doing everything I can to make it right.

4) People care quite a bit where they buy things from, sure not everyone, but a HUGE amount due, as in the vast majority from my personal experience with these. It's not common for people to have a real "connection" with the manufacturer (even though I am just a pin prick in the market).
Varied distribution works better on many levels, especially in a small market. I am an Artist first and foremost, my motives, direction, and pursuit are dictated exclusively by this.  werd to my homies XD

In the past two years it has only been this last month where there has been an access problem that may have to do with me. Try planing things many months in advance and then get hung up on a what was thought of as a fluke initially.

And to your last part-
You and me both!

In case I come across a total jackass, let me walk the talk.  I created a sample survey on google docs.  Try it out.  enter some random text to it.  As many as you like.  Then I can share the resulting list so CC and other potential group buy organizers can see how it might help them to organize GBs.

"But it isn't up to it" is a recent manifestation on geekhack from my perspective. We do live in an intolerant "NoW" world though, so that may seem like a bigger deal than it may be. Many things will be changing on all sides.

I don't in any way think you are coming across as a jack a$$, you're just trying to prove strong points from a limited (and reasonably so) perspective while trying to speak for many people.

Your survey would just let people say what they would like to have, not ways of helping organize group buys. Although it may help some, it would unfortunately not help me. I have been collecting info for around two years now and it has greatly helped shape what I do. Your doc would appeal more towards sellers and profit. My direction is not dependant on some sort of critical mass. LoL, and you just changed it, left to right reads better I suppose and it's cleaner now.

In case I come across a total jackass, let me walk the talk.  I created a sample survey on google docs.  Try it out.  enter some random text to it.  As many as you like.  Then I can share the resulting list so CC and other potential group buy organizers can see how it might help them to organize GBs.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEx6dlNCNm4yeFZiTlFHV2U2blFJeFE6MQ

I don't have an opinion in the CC debate, but thanks for posting this.  I'll probably use this for future group buys.  Maybe it can help cut down on the PM back and forth due to incomplete orders.

I don't need to prove any point.  What happened is facts.  I am just pointing them out.  I have been running a very large, long, and complicated group buy for Phantom,  and I sold  acrylic cases that I made myself.  My day job also include online service performance.  My perspective certainly is not limited.

Anyhow, if how you do your group buy floats your boat, that is all that matters.  Hope your next sale works better.

I was snowboarding at keystone co when the sale went live. Needless to say I spent the next 2 hours trying to pm cc from my Verizon droid. I got an order in at 6:08pst, not sure if I made the 4grabs cutoff yet, but I'm super appreciative of the dibs sale, thanks cc! You're awesome!

How's the snow? I haven't been up since December and it was really dry then.

It is actually pretty powerful, and it is free unlike survey monkey.  You will need to adjust your "questions" based on how your group buy is going work, like the ability to specify the quantity for multiple items offered.  But once it is set and tested, it really is a piece of cake to collect all the data you need and then you can do whatever you want to massage the data in Google Docs or Excel.  One thing I still need to figure out is how to make it work if someone wants to change the order.  It could also be used for interest check.

super weak, but I'm from the east coast so I'll take anything other than a small icy hill! Apparently they had a week of great snow 2 weeks ago, but that was it this season.  Worst winter for snow in America in a long time.

I'm in Denver so it's good to know I'm not missing out on much this year. Statistically March is supposed to be the snowiest month. Since the beginning of the season was so dry I'm hoping this March is going to be the pay off.

Are you on awdpirates too?

You're right, you don't, and I never asked you to.
What is troubling me  is that your responses seem to be a little bit antagonistic by misstating points (and for what reason? If I misread them I apologize) AND  emphasising a slight bias towards what seem on the verge of being non sequiturs in order to make points based on very, very, very few facts. The only fact(s) openly available is that the site was down for about two hours (though precise reason is unknown), upset some people, and my sale worked despite that, and I have offered future sales to most of those who missed out.  My point is that you don't make my keys, you don't make my equipment, you don't know the numbers for anything on anyside of the equation, you don't have EK as your distributor, you are speaking for a great many people that do not share your opinion, and are reacting strongly to what amounts to a blip on the radar (which at best was a sheer accident, and we learned from it already).

That is what I mean't by "limited perspective", I have no doubt that you handle items on a larger and more impressive and perhaps efficient scale than I (but... that might not be saying much, LoL). I should probably hire you, but I'm afraid the pay would be awful and gnomes kinda smell funny, and you would have to be quite tolerant of them and not point out their shortcomings (get it?).  I'm small, insignificant, and vulnerable, these things play a part in how I direct my pursuits.

I understand your frustration and I am very grateful for your appreciation of my keys and your interest in wanting to help. I will be changing some of my practices and implementing certain things sooner than I was prepared for.

And regarding your last part again-
The sale worked! K, I think I'm a broken record now. The only thing better next time would be that GH does not go down again during it. And I don't believe that it will. I WILL DO EVERYTHING I POSSIBLY CAN TO ENSURE IT! There will be some sacrifices and trade offs but I will do my best to make sure they remain more on my side of the equation.

I guess I'm draggin this out, probably due to my very strong personal connection to all this since I have poured every ounce of possible effort into it that I could. (and i'm a bit loopy from lack of sleep)

In the end this constitutes only a blip. An accidental, unfortunate, coincidental, rare, unexpected, fixable, blip.

tl;dr-
ad nauseum

It's disgusting really to see people price gouging in the classifieds.

If that's an allowed practice, what's to stop people who could give a **** about keyboards and key caps from joining geekhack for the sole purpose of making a quick buck?

Quote from: Roguemaster8;541347
After the PMs went out, clickclack has to go back and send out price quotes to the people who PMed him in time to get a key. And as far as I know, the first ones started going out half an hour ago.

If I get the amount I wanted, I'll sell you one for double the price not including shipping. Seems high, but honestly is the cheapest price you will pay for a clickclack.

Is price gouging more then 100% then? LOL
