Am I the only person who doesn't want a skull on my keyboard?
Sorry if this is a nub question, but are you saying EK will have more clickclacks today?
If anything, ClickClack should raise their prices.
^ good question, and is the stuff listed under "future place holder" the stuff he will have for sale today? That is the stuff for sale today. But he might change some of them.
The best strategy is a DoS attack for everyone except yourself.
But I don't know HTML.
Same. You know you want the attention! I'm freaking out. I want one of these so bad.
And how do you think you're gonna get pink?
You got 1hour or so, Im gonna go for a pink one
Mmm, pink or blue what do you think?
Can you purchase single of each like for example if I got hella lucky, could I get 1green/1white/1random?
Ok I guess im gonna go for one white and one random, wont happen but I can dream.
Just look at ur clock. Press ''Submit Message'' at 4:00.
May the best internet connection win!
so it's 502 pst right now? LOL
I'm sure it's just going to lead to me nerd raging. You know Finn. We could partner up.
30mbit/s connection here.
30mbit/s connection here.
Steady 25 here
We should work together.
Can someone actually tell me which setting from the forum options is the one the match PST time from Click Clack? I only see GMT.
It should be GMT -8 (It says pacific after too).
The forums are back up!
PM'd ClackFactory already.
my pm didnt go through untill 20:22 xD...
mine was sen't at 17:56 PST
I was wrong mine went through at 9 Mar 2012, 20:23
Insta-sadness
So early? I couldn't get mine through till the forums came back up @ 17:50. I thought I was one of the first.
I was F5'ing like mad.
What do you mean so early?
Wtf time is it lol, I thought that like 17 was earlier than 20
Someone explain this to me please?

different time zones
That's probably what kept the server overwhelmed was scripts that auto-reloaded the page. In my opinion that's not fair at all to those who were fairly reloading to send out a PM.
I know these things are desirable, but at what point do we become like those people who trample to death the employees at Walmart on Black Friday?
I got mine sent an hour after the sale started. If I'm not in there, the people ddosing the site are the ones who get the caps. I sat here for an hour straight spaming f5. Was late picking my woman up from work (she wanted a white one, and told me to!)
Has that ever actually happened? :(
I discovered the trick to it a little too late.
Just prepare the message beforehand and paste it into his PM. When you click send message and it fails, backspace then click again.
This is a much quicker way of doing it, but I F5'd like an idiot much like everyone else did trying to get his PM url to open.
If I get everything I tried to get I will be using superglue to wear two of them on my nipples, just an fyi.
how can i put an order?
Its too late
How u know its too late?

Be nice :P say you can possibly get it with 0.0000000001 rate.
Mine went out at 5:50 PST
Do people really run scripts to get their orders in as soon as possible?
I just kept F5ing every time the bar stop spinning.

To think, a year ago cc skulls were sitting on EK unsold for awhile. Now you people break GH trying to get one.
CC is a nice dude
I wonder if these weren't so ultra exclusive rare if people would still want them.
I wonder if these weren't so ultra exclusive rare if people would still want them.
What does him being a stand up guy have to do with what I said?
CC is a fair guy, brown nosing won't work with him.
I wonder if these weren't so ultra exclusive rare if people would still want them.
some people do actually appreciate his work.
he is extremely talented (ESPECIALLY his vader keycap).. others just want it because it's the flavor of the month.
and good for CC, he deserves all sales he makes.
I do think they are really well done, it is no easy feat doing plastics on such a small scale.
As for sales, I think he could be making way more if he wanted to.
@the script question. I didn't use anything like that.
@the would people want them if they wern't rare: I totally would. If they wern't rare I would have several of them. My left arm is covered in "halloween"-ish tattoos. Pumpkins, candy corn, a zombie head, bat, eyeballs etc so I'm really into crap like that :D
CC is a nice dude
yeah, now we're going to need pictures of said tattoos now!
I think he's a nice guy. But the implementation of the sale was all wrong = '/
But I do respect him.

Np, here. This is about 2 years ago the blacks and some purple was fresh. I'll use my tripod and self timer to get some better ones tomorrow. I had this one on photobucket already :)

Nice, I've been putting off finishing my sleeve for too long.
Started a star wars leg piece too lol. Well, by started I mean I have imperial forces tattoo only lol.

As SOON as someone gets a pm from Mr. Clack, please let us know and the time you got your pm to him earlier.
First orders came in at 5:22pm PST, and believe it or not our newest member beat over 99% of you out! haahaa, what are the chances?

hey cc: please charge more for your caps. the fact that your caps sell out within minutes and then factory seconds sell out within minutes says you either need to up your production volume or plain charge more. please! use the profits to fund more cool ****!
Stop attacking my wallet.lol!
One does not simply buy less because price goes up.
The past is behind, learn from it.
The future is ahead, prepare for it.
The present is here, live it.
ClickClack, please don't run any more sales on GH. Your keycaps are too popular. Not only do you create undue stress for buyers to purchase your goods, your sales also bring down the site for forum members who are not interested in your sale.
There are many other better ways to do this. As simple as asking people to send you email to clack factory sales email alias (at specific time or within a time period for a drawing), to setting up a "survey" on surveymonkey.
And most importantly for yourself, private messaging is probably the worst possible way to manage and triage a large number of incoming messages, especially on a slowed down site that is being DDOS'ed. Other methods are much easier on yourself.
2 hours to get in.. Why isnt this run lottery style and winner are banned from the next 3 sales? For many reasons-

Just gave some people a little more incentive.

Still no message, I sent at 17:23 PST, hope I get in. :)
I got mine in at the same time. Still waiting for my PM = (.
Sent mine at 17:51 PST
My hopes aren't high.
Not clickclack's fault people are so desperate for his skulls.
But I also understand why people go crazy, it seems the same 4-5 people always ended up buying from his 4grabs sales which pushes others to be more aggressive on trying to buy so the same 4-5 don't buy again.
How many keys does he make anyway?
Has anyone gotten PMed yet?
Anxiety killing me.

Keep in mind the guy is sleeping.
Am I the only one who is checking his 4Grabs thread (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?24467-4Grabs) periodically?
I will continue sending out quotes and Dibs invitations in a few hours,
So I assumed that there were quotes going out.
But yeah he probably went to sleep.

Patience
That is a very strong request you have there, one that I hope is not shared by many. And here is why I hope you are in the very, very tiny minority.
I feel very connected to this site/community and these sales are available in this community ONLY. It is one of the ways I would like to show respect, support, and gratitude. Clearly I mean no harm by them, that would defeat the point entirely. It saddens me greatly knowing that I could be in part compromising some peoples enjoyment of this site. Lets however keep this in perspective, the previous sales with the exception of the last canceled one went decently well and the site really didn't experience problems. I was lead to believe that the previously canceled sale was just unfortunately timed. I truly did not believe that this recent sale would contribute to the same problems as last time or I would not have done the sale, PERIOD! I enjoy and respect this community too much just to **** with it for some sort of lulz.
I would also like it to be noted that I made this sale almost exactly 2x larger than any previous sale in order for everyone to get in on it who ordered within some sort of reasonable amount of time. These accomodations would have sufficed easily for any of the previous sales. This recent sale however produced 4x the number of orders as my last large sale, far exceeding my extended accomodations.
I would like to dispell some misconceptions while I am at it now that I have a bit of "experience" under my belt.
1)PM's are quite accurate and the work flow luckily happens to be quite efficient (it took me somewhat by surprise as well a while back)
2)Emails (not pms) are very innacurrate timing wise and I would have to verify each individual member (it also makes me more vulnerable)
3)If I did more sales outside of gh our members would have a much slimmer chance of getting keys and most accomodations will be out of my control.
4)I have not implemented any of my ideas lightly or quickly, they have been carefully thought out over a good long while and many have been gained from community feedback and experience.
5)If I could do things differently right now then I would. I have now spent around 30hrs on the last (canceled) sale and this one and I have not made a dime yet (nor is it over) and this sale will not equate to being in any way financially worth it when you take into account the other problems it has inadvertantly caused.
BTW every single person who tried to order in the first 4 hours who did not get a key in this sale will be given the chance to get something in the next sale, which will be specifically set up for them. I will always try my best to make things right and/or as fair as possible and reasonable!
tl;dr -
Please all, please none and hindsight is indeed 20/20.
but in addition to that there was an actual DDoS attack happening as well. the timing probably wasn't coincidental as well, I would assume it has something to do with some disgruntled person who was unable to get CC keys previously.
- make it easy for you to sell your goods
- make it easy for buyers to buy your goods (including your international buyers)
Clickclack, I mean no offense. I have started buying your keycaps recently as well. They look cool. And I understand why you want to do this on GH. It is a good thing. I am not saying that you shouldn't sell your keys here. I am saying the way it is done is not optimal, if not for you, for your buyers. Who felt good sitting next to their computer for 2 hours on a Friday evening? Wait, maybe we all were going to be next to our computers anyway.
The problem is your keycaps are in super high demand, a lot of people want them can't get them. So when you announce there is a sale, and people know that is it first come first serve, they rush, like people running over people at Walmart on Black Friday morning. You should still announce your sales here, and you should continue to connect with your fans here. But it would be good to offload things that the Geekhack server can't handle to some other services. Keep doing the way you are doing, and it will always bring down the Geekhack until the server are upgraded or demands slow down.
Also, the way it is now, you are not accommodating your your international buyers. If you have a longer time frame and people don't have to rush, it makes the buying experience better.
I think the goals for your sales are, in prioritized order:
- sell your goods
- let buyers buy your goods
- make it easy for buyers to buy your goods (including your international buyers)
- make it easy for you to sell your goods
- make it fair for all buyers
- Try not to bring down Geekhack and affect non-buyers' geekhack activities
No doubt, this is actually a good problem to have for you, because it is good business and it is good your production is well loved by the community. Obviously it is your choice how you want to run it. Just keep in mind how other people and Geekhack are affected by this.
Thanks.
Also is it just me or is the site acting funny ever since yesterday, the thread I posted in last keeps showing up in my subscriptions as unread, and when I read it again it shows as read (non bold) but stays in my UserCP, it never used to do that.
I think if he noticed certain IPs taking extremely high load, he could ban those IPs, or should be able to depending on how the server runs. I forget a lot of that stuff.
The real solution is really to just produce more or raise the prices. If the supply is greater than the initial wave of demand, then there should be little issue with people being left out, as there is more than enough to go around. Raising the prices lessens the demand, and increasing the supply to meet the demand also solves the problem.I don't agree with this as this is fun to collect due to the rarity of the item, if you have something so common the fun isn't there. CC has the pricing model the way it is for a reason I assume, and most of CC's work isn't mass made, I don't know if thats due to limitations or his business model but I am a firm believer of rare items priced not ridiculously and can still work. Of course you're going to have people crying about not having any but that's the way it goes.

I think CC just doesn't have time to maintain his own site atm with his current job, he's doing it here on GH as a favor to us since a lot of us here seem to love his work, that's why he's taking time out of his day to do this for us.
The solution is for people to chill the **** out about these.
It has become more about keycaps than the actual keyboards.
I wish we were more like OTD worrying about custom keyboards to go with our custom keycaps.
Does Google docs lock access while working on an entry/change? If not then you run into 100 changes being made within a 1 second time frame because their system can take it.

You can set up surveys that are only inputs. and then it places it into a spreadsheet when submitted.

I don't think people will chill the **** out until the keys become "common" enough.
Some people enjoy the keycaps (me for one) as much as their keyboards. They keycaps are a part of the keyboard.
And maybe everybody can eventually get one and stop breaking the site.
HAHAHAHA. One...
We need to be able to swim in a pool of them.
Adding this thread to The McKEYmouse Effect (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?23786-Ripster-s-LATEST-Keyboard-Theory-The-McKEYMouse-Effect).
Have I ever told you guys about The Hundredth Monkey Effect?
Wow so many crybabies... guaranteed they wouldn't be saying a word about the format if they had gotten a PM in. Better luck next time... I'm fine with the way these are run. As long as the server can handle them, I see no issue running it here

You know, not everybody cares about these sales but the downtime bothers everybody.
You guys have to admit that this system is still 100 times better then that of EK sales of clickclacks
Did EK sales bring down GH? No. Did it take 2 hours to order something? No.Yeah, what lit said.

I understand what your saying this really is not fair to the people that are just trying to access geekhack. I guess I was merely speaking from that of a consumer standpoint and that was ignorant I am sorry :(
You are right the community is more important then the sale of some keycaps no matter how limited or cool they are.
Sometimes I forget that it is important to first seek to understand before trying to be understood, lol Stephen Covey
He should just have a twitter and make up awesome riddles for us to figure out

Bummer, no PM from CC probably means I didn't get anything :(
And how do you guys know it was the CC sale that brought down the forum? Forum as been unstable for me for the past couple of weeks.

It's disgusting really to see people price gouging in the classifieds.
If that's an allowed practice, what's to stop people who could give a **** about keyboards and key caps from joining geekhack for the sole purpose of making a quick buck?

I don't get it...
why are you guys so crazy about these caps??
Heh. :bolt:
:mmph:
seriously, I'd like to know.....
I think most people would say rarity. I would say uniqueness.
But couldn't you just use some hobby epoxy and make these urself??
Nah, they really are one of a kind works of art.
It's like a particular clothing brand. Sure it will look similar, but it will never truly be that same brand and style.
So, you really think these are the 'abercrombie' of keycaps.. maybe more hot-topic, since all the skulls that emo kids wear. LOL
Not dissin, just making sure i'm readin u right.

I don't see this changing anytime soon as the first keyboard is way cheaper to produce then the second one.
Actually this may have been bad example, good luck finding the second one.
I have this Saitek Keyboard.
Oh god, This is definitively my worst purchase in terms of keyboard, the keys feel so... BAD?

I don't know how anyone can say the gh system is better than EK, when the man has said that he's wasted something like 30 hours running these last two sales and it hasn't been profitable. If it isn't profitable, (though I doubt it, and wonder where you got the info) then I would for sure recommend that he significantly raise his prices. He should earn some return for what he is doing for this community, or it isn't fair to him. Nobody should be complaining about it either, if that's the case.
At the end of the day while he is doing something for this community, he has to make a bit of coin out of it as well. I wonder how many ppl would do 30 hours work for free for a hundred ppl that spend about the same amount of time bickering about who is going to get the end product? I know I wouldn't.
At least with EK presumably he just hands the goods over and gets some money back without having to worry about the selling part.
I really like these skull caps, but I am starting to question what the hell I am doing, is anyone else doing the same?
I had a Saitek Cyborg V5 and the key feel was horrid. There's rubber domes and then there's a small piece of cheap rubber of a membrane.
The latter is probably what was used in most Saitek keyboards.
Nobody should be complaining about it either, if that's the case.

I feel the same way, typing on my g11 feels like theres gummy bears underneat the key.
somepeople like gummy bears.
Except for the people who aren't buying his caps and just want to browse and post on GH.
LOL, if we're still adhering to clickclack being "ART" ,, then it is fitting that he'd be struggling, poor, and starving... Only through such toils will his greatest masterpiece materialize.Lol, though I know you're joking, that's silly. Why would we want this guy to suffer for providing us with such awesome keys?

If the sole complaint is downtime for the masses, then take it up with the guys hacking GH all the time, as they end up rendering the site unusable much more often than the once every few months for a couple of hours. Nobody here should have such a boring life that they can't find something else to do for a couple of hours if GH is down.

Are you discounting the refresh bots and people F5'ing all the time due to the pending sales that brought down GH on Friday? If there has been a DDOS attack on GH, then the hacker isn't doing a good job. It has only been able to slow it down.
Let's say there really was a DDOS attack on GH or some rouge process running on GH's server doing some other things (the server has been compromised many times before). The CC sales is now the last straw on the camel's back.
1) this is between you and EK's communication. If you guys knew who is going to do what at when, you could have announced it on the forum ahead of time before EK put them up on the site. So, you and EK could have made it work. That fail was squarely on you and EK.
2) I say no, not everyone got a chance to get one from you this time either, due to the server not being available for everyone to send you a PM at the time you requested. By definition, fair chance for everyone means everyone get the same probability to have a chance to buy from you. Neither EK's sale nor your sale provided that.
3) posting to geekhack about the EK sales pale in comparison to hundreds of people refreshing pages on GH every few seconds or trying to send PMs to you.
EK sale and your sale here on GH may serve different purposes for *you*. They serve the same purpose for your potential buyers. People don't care where they can buy your caps. They care that they can buy them.
I agree hindsight is 20/20. Knowing what we know now, I would be super disappointed if another clack factory sale brings down geekhack again, because we have hindsight now.
So clickclack have all the people that got something been notified? I personally appreciate you bringing the sale here. Geekhack obviously has issues to work out besides the people F5ing for CC's.
Agreed that if the forum could handle the load, by all means do it they way it has been on GH. But it isn't up to it.
In case I come across a total jackass, let me walk the talk. I created a sample survey on google docs. Try it out. enter some random text to it. As many as you like. Then I can share the resulting list so CC and other potential group buy organizers can see how it might help them to organize GBs.

I was snowboarding at keystone co when the sale went live. Needless to say I spent the next 2 hours trying to pm cc from my Verizon droid. I got an order in at 6:08pst, not sure if I made the 4grabs cutoff yet, but I'm super appreciative of the dibs sale, thanks cc! You're awesome!

Most quotes have gone out (not all), some of the Dibs PMs have gone out (not all)

"But it isn't up to it" is a recent manifestation on geekhack from my perspective. We do live in an intolerant "NoW" world though, so that may seem like a bigger deal than it may be. Many things will be changing on all sides.
I don't in any way think you are coming across as a jack a$$, you're just trying to prove strong points from a limited (and reasonably so) perspective while trying to speak for many people.
Your survey would just let people say what they would like to have, not ways of helping organize group buys. Although it may help some, it would unfortunately not help me. I have been collecting info for around two years now and it has greatly helped shape what I do. Your doc would appeal more towards sellers and profit. My direction is not dependant on some sort of critical mass. LoL, and you just changed it, left to right reads better I suppose and it's cleaner now.

I don't have an opinion in the CC debate, but thanks for posting this. I'll probably use this for future group buys. Maybe it can help cut down on the PM back and forth due to incomplete orders.
How's the snow? I haven't been up since December and it was really dry then.
I don't need to prove any point. What happened is facts. I am just pointing them out. I have been running a very large, long, and complicated group buy for Phantom, and I sold acrylic cases that I made myself. My day job also include online service performance. My perspective certainly is not limited.
Anyhow, if how you do your group buy floats your boat, that is all that matters. Hope your next sale works better.
super weak, but I'm from the east coast so I'll take anything other than a small icy hill! Apparently they had a week of great snow 2 weeks ago, but that was it this season. Worst winter for snow in America in a long time.

Click Clack key collectors remind me WAY too much of this guy.Epic lol

you're doing too much
I am officialy part the "L" team that did not win a single keycap :'-( this last 4 Grabs sale
It's disgusting really to see people price gouging in the classifieds.
If that's an allowed practice, what's to stop people who could give a **** about keyboards and key caps from joining geekhack for the sole purpose of making a quick buck?
After the PMs went out, clickclack has to go back and send out price quotes to the people who PMed him in time to get a key. And as far as I know, the first ones started going out half an hour ago.
If I get the amount I wanted, I'll sell you one for double the price not including shipping. Seems high, but honestly is the cheapest price you will pay for a clickclack.
Is price gouging more then 100% then? LOL
Webwit and I agree that you're all a bunch of lamenting women.
Anyone got theirs yet?! Want pics of the mint :D
Am I the only person who doesn't want a skull on my keyboard?
I thought Clackfactory makes other doubleshots with different designs?
