Title: Question for Deck users...
Post by: Tallon on Sat, 10 March 2012, 00:16:38
//EDIT//
I've done some more research (including reading the friggin' 140 page thread over at ocn on the ducky shine... ugh). While I love my das silent - I remember the first time I tried the keyboard I felt the keys were too light. It's been a year and I still think they're lighter than I'd like. I still want a tactile response, which leaves only one option - mx clears.

Which means getting a deck (because I don't want to mod ;P ). That leads me to another question specific to the deck ...

A major concern I have with the deck is that the keys are all level. The closest thing I have to this is a laptop keyboard, which I don't like. I'm not sure if that's a really fare comparison, though, since laptop keyboards are quite different and are easy to typo on (imo). What do you guys think? Is it an issue? Am I just overthinking this? :)

The only other option I can really think of is if I decide to forgo the back lighting and get a realforce (such as the 55g uniform).

Ok, so I purchased a Das silent keyboard a year ago, and I absolutely love it. But, I often find myself wishing I had a backlit keyboard. Yes, I type in home row very well - but sometimes backlighting can be darn useful :).

Anyway, it looks like xarmor's company is completely gone now - so I don't want to go with one.

Some of the things I'm looking for - I'd prefer a keyboard that connects via usb, BUT can connect via ps2 with an adapter. I currently need ps2 so my keyboard can start my computer (long story short - my power button on the tower is broken). I'd only go for brown or clear switches. USB ports aren't necessary, but are a plus.

It seems like the "best" backlit keybaord is the deck legend, though it requires a lot more work to switch from USB to PS2.

Anyone have any ideas? It's been a long time since I've keyboard shopped! It seems like there's been plenty of new keyboards, but few if any are backlit. Any help would be appreciated...

You could get the PS/2 version of the Deck legend and a PS/2 to USB adapter.  Not all of them will work with the Deck due to its current draw.  The one I have is this translucent blue one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINI-USB-TO-PS2-PS-2-MOUSE-KEYBOARD-CONVERTER-ADAPTER-SUPER-FAST-SHIP-FROM-USA-/150718679901?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2317888b5d) from ebay and it works fine.

The reason I went this route is so I can have N-key rollover via PS/2 but can still plug it into devices that don't have PS/2 ports via USB.

There's also the Ducky Shining that has MX browns, but I have no idea how much current it draws and which USB->PS/2 adapters would work with it.

I have a DAS silent as well and all I did was install all white PBTs and you can easily see them in the most dimly lit room.

Remember you are working with an LCD/Monitor that is already putting out a lot of light.  The all whites simply amplifies itself for easy spotting in the darkest rooms.

Try it, in the end self-lighted keyboards become redundant.  I got rid of a ducky shine and a K90, don't need them anymore.

lol...

and thanks ripster, for the link to the buttons. I'm going to have to rip apart this case and see if the problem is something I can easily fix, or if I need to switch out the button with one you linked to.

This adapter works with win 7?
