Title: Cherry mx green
Post by: boost on Mon, 12 March 2012, 18:41:54
I got a poker with mx blues but the space bar has a green switch which feels much better than the blues and I really like it.

My question is where can I fund a board with all mx greens or what board can I modify to greens.

Thanks

I think the closest you can get would be to find one with Clears or something. I enquired about this a bit ago, but nobody makes all-green boards.

Course you could always just buy a lot of green switches and do it yourself. I'm planning on doing this someday...

Cool. What would be the easiest board to swap to greens?

Can a complete switch swap be done a cm storm?

Easier way. Make ghetto green switches - black springs + blue stems.

Boost - I'd be willing to go in on a GB for black springs, if a good source can be found.

put up a WTB in the classifieds, im sure you'll get them quickly.

or get an old wyse board and use it for parts (keycaps and switches.. you just need to desolder the switches which takes like 10 minutes with a solder sucker)

but, i'd go with WTB first.

And once I do a green board, then the real work begins... tracking down enough whites to redo a whole keyboard without breaking the bank importing them.

Stupid question. Why would I desolder the switch off the Wyse? Wouldnt I just need to pull the springs out

Because they're plate-mounted, I believe. You have to unsolder them from the PCB before you can take them off the plate.

If the switch is plate mounted I believe it will need to be desoldered.

But with the poker since they are pcb mounted you just pop the switch open and change the spring. I just did it this weekend with my poker. Modded to ergo clears.

So I wouldn't use the CM Storm unless you want to solder. And the switches with leds on the poker also need to be desoldered so I just left those alone.

because that is a rite of passage.

and you kind of have to since they are plate mounted

Grab an 11900, great source of cheap blacks. I've gotten like 4 of them off ebay for around $20. I have been lucky and all were doubleshots, 2 NIB. Don't forget to search APC and Unisys brands too.

You also need to desolder the blue switch on your CM Storm inorder to swap the spring.
