Title: Tighten fit on MX caps
Post by: i3oilermaker on Wed, 14 March 2012, 16:43:12
As Ripster has pointed out countless times, SP caps sometimes don't have the best fit on a Cherry MX stem.

Does anyone have any veteran advice on how to fix this?

Permenant? Use super glue. If not, have you tried blue tack? May not be elegant but could work.

Is it that they're too tight or not tight enough?

Hi i3oilermaker,

A quick and simple (and very effective) method for loose fitting keys (like old cherry keycaps) is to cut a small piece of Saran Wrap (or similar) approximately 1cm x1cm
and place it on the underside of the keycap keystem. Don't try and push it into the keystem, let the switch do that. And presto! Your done!  =)

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

-cc    =)

Edit: LoL, I just saw ripsters post. It's very similar but the Saran Wrap is more forgiving and more easily tweakable.
If it's silly loose then you can use more than one piece of plastic wrap, or fold over a larger piece and so on. You get the gist.  =)

Why does the GLWIC thread show WhiteFireDragon as the poster ???? Can you do a new post as any member in your subforum, or only edit a post that the other member must have written first?

Thanks, back to topic: I like my keycaps loose, better loose than super tight... especially on pcb mounted switches. I've had switches burst open and stabilizers detach while pulling caps on my Poker. As long as keycaps don't fall if you turn the keyboard upside down without shaking it, it's okay for me.

We'll I was noticing a lot of rattle in my backspace stabilized key.  When I put back the original tight fitting key it was fixed.

I will try the tape / plastic wrap fix tomorrow and let you know how it goes

Went with the Scotch tape method since that is what I had handy.

Night and Day difference!  Thanks again to Ripster, Whisker, and ClickClack!!
