Just got a Leo from Elitekeyboards and the stabilizers are a little stiff, the rest of the keys feel great though, any advice?

oh boy here we go...

Try lithium grease

My advice is just use it, and do your best to ignore it until it's broken in. Cherry stabilizers will always make those keys feeling a little different (more so on tactile switch), but it's much more pronounced on brand new ones that are tight.

Did you try that with yours?

So yours broke in eventually?

Yes, they always do. I have had 2 Leopold, 2 Poker, and I don't even know how many G80's. I am pretty used to Cherry stabilizers, since every board I have owned has them. I just use them. If it's sticking then most of the time it's unseated or has a burr. It just needs some working in, as the plastic clip holds the wire quite tight on new one. Just needs some break in and loosening up. It's more of a pain on plate mount, but if you pop the wire in and out a few times it loosens up pretty fast if you don't want to take time to work it in the natural way. If you happen to have some grease, might as well rub a tiny bit on the wire before you pop it back in the clip.

I didn't, personally I haven't had any issues with the "horrible" stabilizers. It probably gets looser after a while as well.

...new mechanical user here. Exactly how would you describe the 'cherry stabilizers' compared to those that dont?
Are the stabilizers you talk of the extra switches they have for backspace, shifts and the like?
-
Does the Das have cherry stabilizers? I just noticed something similar when I got mine, brand new the backspace key would squeak terribly. Now it's the shift key

The stabilizers are on the larger keys (shift, spacebar, etc) so that the entire key goes straight down. The two main types of stabilizers are Costar, which are on Filco, WASD, Rosewill, and CM Storm Quickfire (I know I'm forgetting at least one), or Cherry, which are on all other Cherry MX boards, including Leopolds. A lot of people prefer the Costar style stabilizers, and say that they aren't as stiff and they don't affect the feeling of the switch; and that Cherry stabilizers are stiffer and produce a somewhat "mushier" feeling compared to an un-stabilized key.

No. That's actually a manifestation of the Costar-style stabilizers that are used on the Das Keyboard (also on other Costar OEM'ed boards - Filco, Rosewill, CM Quickfire, etc). That can be handle by application of Lithium grease to the stabilizer inserts and on the board where the stabilizer bar clips into the base. Check Ripster's wiki for details, that's what I used.

Oh okay thanks! I was planning on getting some, where do you buy lithium grease at? I had some type of grease that I used on my backspace key, but wiped it off when I cleaned my keyboard and put o rings on. Need to re apply soon.
