I recently had the idea of making some. Not sure how difficult it would be or anything, just had the idea.. but now, if somehow I was able to make these, would they be too heavy to make typing annoying? Is anyone else interested in this?

I was interested in this when I saw it on a korean forum(OTD)

See something like that I think would look really great with a whole set.. My dad is very handy with woodwork (I however am not), I've been meaning to discuss it with him and see if he wants to help me try it out. Maybe even wooden cases(?), whatever it is called that holds the board inside :)
-
I have a friend that is pretty good at wood working and he has told me that making keys and cases is definitely possible, but so far I have only been able to get him to make me a wrist rest. Hopefully in the future I can coax him into doing some other things as well. I really like the idea of using wood for some things.
-
I'd be in for it. = ) Keycaps/Case. I have this fondness for wood.
-
LOL. Okay cool! I'll talk to him and see how easy we can do this, hopefully if they're good put them up on here!

It is definitely doable. Someone's doing them at like $1000 or something... But yeah, it'd be a cool project for you to do = )

Yeah, it's usually called a case :p
Here are some examples from a sometimes-cited ebay seller

Edit: Ninja'd *3. The 'board Hazeluff is talking about is likely the first ebay link I have.

those look really nice. yeah the first one is something I think I'd like to go for. Depending on how much time and how difficult it would be I wouldn't mind selling them if they ended up nice, definitely not for that much though. To me, at that price it becomes a little ridiculous.. but that's just me.

Case for my Filco TKL and maybe a couple novelty keys, but I think typing on an entire set of wooden caps would feel like giving Pinocchio a handjob.
-
Haha I see your point..
-
Yeah I was talking about that first one.
It all comes to how much you think your time is worth.
-
Yeah definitely. I'll be sure to let everyone know if and when I start this project and how it goes!

When it happens, make a thread in the mod section. I'll definitely follow. Wouldn't mind a nice wooden case ; p.

Wood they get shiny?

For sure!

Lol I see what you did there. And hopefully not, that'd be nice :D

what whiskers said, a space bar would be awesome :D
-
I'm also behind the space bar idea.

What about a slightly more flexible material, such as bamboo? I think that'd be ideal for everyday use compared to hardwood.

I would love to see a set of wooden keycaps. I feel like a lighter wood would look great with the Filco yellow keys.
