Title: Where does one find Replacement parts for Topre
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 19 March 2012, 00:38:48
I googled and searched GH, but I only see that people have custom caps, not replacement domes or springs..

My query is rooted in the fact that I'd like to buy a Happy Hack, as my birthday is coming up.

But knowing that **** breaks no matter how great they are to start, I need to know..

So what do you guys do, just buy new keyboards when the first one has a "single" bad key??

Unfortunately Topre doesn't supply component of their board for users.
You need to buy Realforce or other Topre board to harvest parts for replacement/mod.

Some time ago Topre switch parts appeared on Yahoo Auction. Though this rarely happen.

I have not hear of such problems with Topre base boards. They are very reliable switches

If you're gonna do this "harvest" thing, isn't that basically buying a new board??

Not when you own Type-s HHKB as they cost nearly $200 more than the regular.

Zero availability of spare parts is pretty shifty.  Buying a whole new keyboard to use as a parts mule isn’t a particularly attractive proposition, unless they’re dirt cheap, and Topres certainly aren’t cheap.  “For want of a switch, the keyboard was lost…”

Yea, this is getting on my nerve, slightly dampening my urge to get the hhkb,,, Any other mechanical keyboards out there that costs lots of money, and has spare parts available???

I'd love a PBT spacebar for my RF. Now that ripster has been harping on it this past week, it's been bothering me pretty badly.

It's bothering me even though I haven't even bought one yet..... But it's really a difficult decision if I can't find replacement parts.. I mean this is plastics, and plastic is not known for durability.
