Title: Recommendations?
Post by: biszarerabbit on Thu, 22 March 2012, 22:44:35
So I recently acquired my first mechanical keyboard (cm quickfire with blues) and have fallen in love. I was thinking of maybe getting another mechanical keyboard eventually, and have been looking into more compact layouts such as tenkeyless etc. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions or recommendations for compact mechanical keyboards; I have been interested in the Noppoo Choc Mini, which greatly appeals to me, but I find layouts such as the poker to be a little too compact.

First buy a set of replacement keycaps, that's rule #1

Set I got off ebay I found through the great finds section of the forum, and got side printed yellow keys: http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/2357/img4197z.jpg
I also found some keycaps that signature plastics had in excess: http://www.keycapsdirect.com/images/graycompleteLARGER.jpg
But yes I'm still wondering what people recommend for compact/alternative keyboard layouts

side printed yellow,, not sure how i feel about yellow caps on the quickfire, since it's grey colored. hmmm.... yellow would be great on red, could be done via plastidip

I was thinking side printed yellows would look good surrounded by black keys

My favorite compact mechanical that is common and not too expensive is the SIIG Minitouch you can get em $50-60 or so. Its worth a look but the layout is a little funky.

Yeah after checking that out I don't think I could use it, as the ctrl key is placed a bit differently than I am accustomed to, but thanks for the suggestion!
