Title: [Help] noppoo choc Pro not detected
Post by: risotto on Wed, 28 March 2012, 03:53:23
I bought a noppoo choc pro on ebay a few weeks back, and everything worked fine. Now however, windows stopped detecting the keyboard. Don't know what to do.. Any ideas?

Have you tried another computer? Re-installing Windows might help.

before you reinstall your operating system, what exactly have you done to try to fix the problem?

unplug & replug?
unplug & re-plug to a different port?
are you using a usb to ps/2 converter?
reboot the computer?

I've unplugged and replugged, tried all the usb ports on the computer. Rebooted several times, uninstalled all usb devices using USBDeview.

I seem to be having the same problems as this guy: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?23304-Problem-with-Noppoo-Choc-Mini

I have rebooted several times, unplugged and re-plugged to all the usb ports on the computer. No usb-ps/2 converter is being used..

I tried uninstalling all usb-devices with USBDeview and devmanview, but no success.

Sometimes all the lights are lit but I can't use the keyboard. Mostly it is just dark though.

Try to record a video when the light is on and off during the time you put the cable onto usb port. I think this might explain the error.

Are all of your USB devices functioning properly?  Do you have another PC?

Things to try...

1.  Unplug PC from power outlet.  Press the Power button.  Wait 2~5 minutes.  Plug back in to the wall and boot up
2.  Force the OS to detect your device using Device Manager.  Go to Device Manager, highlight your computer (the very top of the root), right click and select "Scan for Hardware Changes".
3.  Disable Windows USB power management.  Same place, Dev Manager, find the "unrecognized device", right-click, properties.  Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn of...".  Unplug and re-plug device.  Repeat step 2.
4.  Use system restore to roll back to when it used to work.
5.  Run System File Checker.  Start>All Programs>accessories.  Right click on "Command Prompt" and pick "Run as Admin".  type SFC /SCANNOW.  Post the results here.

All other USB-devices work correctly. The keyboard doesn't even show up in device manager :(
I did the SFC command and it did not find any integrity violations.

Did you do all the steps in order?

1.  Tells me it's not a overall system power issue
2.  Tells me it's not a goofy Windows refusing to recognize devices issue
3.  Tells me it's not a goofy Windows refusing to power devices issue
4.  Tells me it may/may not be an update that went awry
5.  Tells me if it's a corrupt file somewhere...

Best to try on another computer. If it doesnt work on another computer, then im afraid the controller must have fried.

I asked the same thing in post #6, you never answered.
Did you try it on a different computer?

You finding out the KB is bad by doing this can save you from a time consuming system restore, a system repair, or a full system reinstall.

Go try it on another computer.

Hopefully, you bought it from a place that offers you warranty repair/replacements.  Sounds like the KB went bad...

I took the keyboard home and tried it with my personal computer. It worked like a charm, so i guess there is something wrong with my work computer..

Never listen to anyone who tells you to reinstall/rollback your OS due to a problem with a specific keyboard.

Sweet.  If you already went through the steps I gave you, I'd get your IT guy to take a look at the comp at work.  Other keyboards don't work on it either, right?

Obviously he's not going to be able to reimage his work PC as an end-user, and I really doubt his desktop support guy will consider doing it for the sake of a third-party piece of hardware.  Enough with the Internet amateur IT guy posts.
