So, college decisions have rolled around, and I'm stuck between the frozen wasteland of RIT and UC Berkeley. I'm having trouble deciding, so I was wondering if any of the people from this forum who live in the area or perhaps attended either of these institutions have any input. The main downside to Berkeley is cost, but my mother said if I really want to go there, she'll make it happen. And since I'll be responsible for paying for it in the long run, I'm definitely taking that into account. So, for those of you in the SF area, or perhaps even from Berkeley, what do you have to say about it?
Ugh. You ever had NY wine?
Of course if you are like Cartman you might not like Berkeley.
A lot of my friends have gone to UC Berkeley, and imo its a great college. I've visited there before, and it really is a beautiful campus. One thing to note is for some of the classes there are 100-200 people in a classroom. Also there are so many places to visit around there. The bay has so many things to do it's ridiculous.I didn't take class size into account, really. That's a good point.
Berkeley to get laid, RIT to study.Aaaaaand leaning Berkeley.
Remember, when applying for colleges look at the first google hit for "XXXX Cheerleaders".

Lol - why do all the males have both hands in their pockets!
I'm EE @ berkeley. Girls here are freaking ugly. That's disappointing. As someone raised on the east coast, CA girls are put on a pedestal.
So my letter of rec didn't help? Dang.Fraid not. Nor going early decision. The whole Stanford thing is delayed until grad school, I suppose.
Heh, when I interviewed at Rochester, they kept pushing the fact that the wine country is close...My sister took a "wines of the world" class. Basically got credit for wine.
Go RIT. Come to the east coast. All my better schools on the east coast that I applied to (Upenn and MIT) didn't really pan out. A shame, but what can you do?
Better schools and fewer hippies.
No problem. After 9,422 of your posts I don't expect much.
What are you planning to study?Cognitive Science or Computer Science. Not totally decided yet.
I did my time at Cal, wonderful experience. 5 years of athletics, girls, brain-twisting academia. I entered 2 weeks before I turned 16, so good thing I was adult-sized :) Unfortunately I copped out and became an attorney for 3 years before I found myself.Jeeze, you entered college at 16? That's ridiculous. Though, I did get a letter from USC about that prior to my junior year, so not that ridiculous. I thought as I typed for this post. Sue me.
Now I just wanna be like brother-Rippy van Sant and spend time looking for a start-up in Silicone Valley to make my next fortune.
Cal and the surrounding ares are beautiful. Your educational experience will be very, very different between the two. Choose wisely.
I skipped 8th grade, my mom took me to Europe for that year to look at graveyards, churches and anything else that was cold, wet, and depressing. Then I went to the first half of my freshman year in high school, which was sucky, then Cal. Oops, I meant 2 weeks before I turned 15. By 16 I was getting it on with 20 year olds at the dorm.If only I had met you years ago. I would have had a clear role model.
Don't worry, we both know Ripster now, so everything will be alright.I look up to Ripster mainly due to his apparent wealth. Hey Ripster, want to pay for my tuition? I'd appreciate it!
Cognitive Science or Computer Science. Not totally decided yet.
Have you considered Drexel? Great school for Comp Sci.The education you get at Drexel is not worth the cost in my opinion. I'd much rather go to RIT, which gives software engineers ridiculous opportunities. Plus, it's way too close. I was only looking at UPenn because they had a *****in' program, and one of my good friends was going there.
uhh... plenty of places where it is more likely.
Why just the other day Obama was telling me to STFU.
I thought the Nobel Prize became worthless ever since Obama won one?He won a Nobel Peace Prize. From my vague memories, it was for some sort of nuclear weapons negotiations that he hadn't actually conducted or something like that. That kinda tarnished the NPP, but Nobel Prizes in other subjects still carry a ton of weight.Show Image(http://static.fjcdn.com/comments/+_64aaef5446d61f31984e91f231b5cee5.jpeg)
What DID he win it for anyway?
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
I have friends that haven't left Manhattan in a couple years "Everything's here!"
I start going batty if I don't fly somewhere every 2 months or so, but I'm always happy to come back to SF.
I've been in the bay area since November and it's been absolutely awesome. Tons of great breweries and places to eat.
Just moved a mile or so south of Berkeley and am loving it.
IIRC, RIT has a Software Engineering major. That's a nice alternative to CS if you're more interested in the practical rather than theoretical aspects of computer programming.Yeah, if I were to go there, that's what I would be majoring in. My sister's there in that program now, and things are going well for her. But I am interested in cognitive science, which isn't offered at RIT.
