Title: MX Blacks and Steelseries6Gv2
Post by: anselben on Sun, 01 April 2012, 22:43:16
So I stopped by Fry's today eager to try out some different cherry switches that I've read so much about. I knew beforehand that it was pretty much going to be between the blacks and reds for my next keyboard and I wanted to be sure. The only red switch keyboard they had out was the corsair vengeance which I was already positive I didn't want, and the steelseries6Gv2. Only thing was that the steelseries keyboard wasn't out and so I couldn't really type on it for an extended period. I ended up buying it in order to test it out for a week or so then return it (even though the sales guy was trying really hard to make me go home with the corsair k90 lol). So far I think the switches are nice, I like the linear feel a lot, but I am noticing some fatigue when typing. Tested it out with Starcraft 2 and about to play some battlefield to see if I know any major difference than on my blues. I am however noticing a lot of difference with the actual keyboard build, layout, etc, than on my Das. My Das does seem better built, but I'm not going to get into a review or anything.

I did also like the red switches for the time that I was typing on them, but I absolutely hated the board. I thought it was just the look of the Corsair board that I didn't like, but there was something about it that I really did not like for some reason.

Curious to see what do you guys think of this? blacks>reds? reds>blacks? Or am I being a little blind not really paying any attention to the browns?

I currently own only red and black switched boards. I tried to play some FPS once with my mx blacks but didn't like how much force was required when playing. I do like to type on it though. Same with my reds. I type MUCH more than game so I just randomly switch between the two.

Something to be careful of with those Corsair boards is that not all the switches are mechanical; just the ones they deemed as the "most often used" keys.

Yeah, the keyboard wasn't too bad playing on starcraft 2. About to check out some battlefield 3 and see how it goes, but as far as typing goes it's not as bad as I had heard. I basically just wanted to make sure I'm getting the right switch for me. If I could now try out the browns I'd be completely satisfied :D

For typing, I think brown/blue is better than black/red. The bump will make you type easier.
