Title: Omron Keyboard?
Post by: ttpoizn on Fri, 06 April 2012, 01:33:52
Hi I'm not really a keyboard enthusiast, but I'm definitely a gaming enthusiast, particularly Dota. I've looked around at the different cherry switches and different makes of keyboards, but they usually all use cherry, aside from Topre. Don't get me wrong, I really like my cherry reds for gaming, but I was thinking, wouldn't Omron switches be the best for gaming? I've barely found any Omron keyboards available aside from some very old ones, but to me I would think that Omron switches, particularly the ones than can be used in mice, would be the best for gaming, because they actuate quickly and give the tactile feedback and actuate at the same time, which is when they bottom out, which is basically instant. There's no in between, as soon as you press it, it's pressed, and you know it's pressed. Can't think of anything better for gaming.

Also, I've heard that your dota performance is directly correlated with how asian your hair style is..

Welcome to Geekhack.

Would you mind RipOmeter (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:6189)ing your Omron sometime?  Then I can give better advice.

My, the wiki loading time was extremely painful.  At this rate I will not be able to answer many noob questions.

If it's made in japan, then it just has to be good stuff.

The Omron switches in a mouse are nothing like those they made for keyboards.

A mouse switch often has a very heavy activation force and a short throw.  It would not be comfortable for typing.

?????, i've never even heard of Omron. Like the switches in a logitech G9x? Seems like they wouldn't be too tough of an actuation, if it's more like some of the left triggers instead of the right.

Omrons are nice switches but I wouldn't recommend them for gaming. The noise may get incessent. Mouse switches would not work well because they have such little travel.

You mean the same noise coming out of everyone's gaming mice?

Yes, I suppose. Some mice are quite mute and some are quite loud (microsoft, I'm looking at you)

I know omron makes all kinds of different switches.  They make switches for pushbuttons, joysticks for fightsticks, the ones used in sanwa JLF joysticks.
